  1. I’ll say it. When you buy a ticket for a sporting event you should realize that star players may or may not be in the lineup due to any number of reasons. You can be upset but it’s no body’s fault but your own for getting your hopes up. If you bought these tickets early in the season you took the gamble of injuries, playoff implications(exciting) or lack there of (either already being in or out). If you bought these recently did you really expect top line guys to be on the ice before our first playoff push in 4 years? Get the boys healthy and let’s get to hoist the cup. It’s 2 games.

  2. Your own fam base should be more important than a division rivals washed up player who is retiring. They won’t give Sid the same treatment.

  3. The J1Q is a hill to fight for.

I completely understand wanting to rest players – although resting players before the playoffs isn’t settled science. (Hot team scenario vs rusty team).

I was at the game and there were several that I talked that were upset. They wanted to see Sid vs Ovi. For many it was their first time (in person).

I was there because, and unless they actually offer Malkin a contract, it may be his last regular season home game. I paid a premium, and booked a hotel, and took time off and drove 12 hours round trip, and he didn’t play. And neither did anyone else. That sucks. I made all of these plans and paid the money long before the playoffs were even a glimmer in our eyes this season. I did it to see my favorite players play against their biggest rival.

They could have, or maybe should have, had their pay respect thing to Ovi at the home game. It would have been meaningful to him and certainly everyone at the game.

Sid’s always a team player, the consummate professional, and human, but this was an oversight.

PS – willing to blame the flyers for losing Thursday and thereby making the Saturday game moot from a standings perspective.

  4. Awww poor fans stop complaining would you rather risk injury right before the playoffs just to make your ticket purchase worth the cost? Pretty selfish if u ask me

  5. Cry baby fans tbh y'all live in pitt and can see them whenever, the only time i get to see them is in buffalo and sid and gino or usually always hurt or out (not last year) but its the risk you take buying tickets to sports. Suck it up and get over yourself is what i say. Wouldn't you all want them healthy for the playoffs anyway

  6. listen i get feeling ripped off on fan appreciation day but like “never go to a game again” is insane

  7. To us fans: get over it. What would you rather see, us backing into the playoffs by our chinny chin chin? How did you like watching the game the Rangers beat us 6-0 or whatever? Who do you think this team is? Are you waiting for Gonchar to quarterback the PP? We never knew if Mario was gonna play or not. Do you think it's coached by Mike Tomlin?
I've made enough comments, some may say I am a debby downer. I get disappointed, but I am proud of these guys without being a cheerleader.
You may be worried about what I am worried about, the team that decides to score by turning on a switch and cannot be denied.
Thank you DK and your team. Sorry for wasting your time on something you already know. I need you to keep my sanity.
My yellow t-shirts that say Let's Go Pens are getting pretty worn out. Time for some new ones. LGP!

  8. It’s frustrating to watch them lose because I’m a fan and I want them to win. However, I guess I don’t care what happens right now just so they do well in the playoffs. Thanks for the great stuff DK.

  9. DK, you owe it more to your fans then Ovi! If they all play the Saturday game and not the Sunday game, nobody says a word! Ironic thing is, because Ovi waved the Pens off at the end of the game, to me that's an obvious sign he's going to play in his farewell tour!

  10. Okay. Since no one is speaking up for the lower-middle class here, I suppose I will. Someone spent their entire paycheck to take their kid to see Sidney Crosby, in probably one of the only times they could barely afford to do so. What do the Penguins do? They healthy scratch half the team. Now while some of us more knowledgeable hockey fans realize that late season scratches are just part of the buildup to playoff hockey, the majority of people don’t know this. Here’s the thing: If you’re healthy, and normally in the lineup, you should play. Period. End of story. Fans are having to shell out $200-300 a ticket for regular season games, not to mention unreasonable food costs, travel, hotels, etc. I would hope the players would want to play with these people in mind. Put yourself in the shoes of the Mother or Father who wanted to show their kid Sid or Geno one time before they hang them up. Maybe this was their only opportunity to travel to Pittsburgh. Yes, players miss games. But is anyone really trying to defend sitting basically the entire team? Call me dramatic, but I’m sorry to break it to you, the lower to middle class exists, and we can’t all afford the luxury of a “Just catch them next game.”

  11. We bought our tickets to the Saturday 4/11 game, paid for flights, and hotel accommodations several months ago, before the Pens seemed to have any chance of a playoff run this season. We thought, sure as heck, that if Ovi was potentially playing his last game in Pittsburgh, then Sid, Geno, and Letang would be on the ice. We even considered going to the second half of the back to back in DC instead of going to Pittsburgh, but the game ticket prices and flights from our home in Vermont were so much more expensive to see the DC game. So we locked in the 4/11 game in Pittsburgh, and we ended up staggeringly disappointed. These are the things you cannot predict months in advance. I do feel cheated, especially because 4/11 was Fan Appreciation Day at PPG, but as a hockey fan I understand why the Pens are strategically picking and choosing who to rest, and when, leading up to the playoffs. It wasn't the first Pens game I've been to, and it wasn't the first game I've seen in person where the team lost horribly. I'm still a Pens fan, so I just hope they make a deep run in these playoffs.

  12. My only concern is that I now know why we got Novak for a 4th. He has ZERO FINISH to his game. Could be an issue for the playoffs.

  13. Didn’t Taylor ask Sid if he had a choice what game he wanted to play in and he said no?
Is she lying or is Sid lying?

  14. Sid was asked directly if he had a choice in which game he sat, and he said no. So, DK, you’re saying he lied about that?

  15. Hey DK…..heres's a question for you that no one has touched on. By the effort put forth this weekend, the team seemed perfectly fine with losing both. I won't jump on the bandwagon of how they sat half the team one game, and then sat the others the next game. My question is……….do they really want to play Washington over Philly, because they sure set the table for that to happen. Philly plays Carolina while the caps finish with Columbus. Personally I think they destroy Philly in a series but the Caps? They have that top line of Wilson and the Protos brothers, and besides chipping in would just go destroy the Penguins physically. Then have a motivated Ovi picking up the pieces when the Penguins are hurt and then expect a goalie clinic from Skinner, much like we saw from Logan Thompson. I understand making the playoffs and resting the talent, but heading into the playoffs flat, possibly on a three game losing streak, and playing the Caps is not a smart move. As much as I would love to see another Sid vs Ovi…….they have Wilson! I don't mean to be Debbie downer, but as I said in many of my comments before, I love size and when they can dominate physically and offensively then look out. Pittsburgh finally got some size, but besides Soderbloom, it came without much physicality, but the playoffs are a different beast. Love him or hate him, Tom Wilson could be the wildcard that is too much for the penguins. None the less, I will be glued to the TV for the first time in three prior playoffs to watch the Penguins, time to hit another gear boys!

  16. DK, Girard and Letang have been really good the last week or so. I don't understand the continued criticism. Letang has stepped back and been the more defensive partner of the two while Girard moves the puck

  17. I totally understand the fan outrage. Fan appreciation night, the chance to win a jersey (many of which were no longer game worn bc they were scratched), the big increase in already high prices because of that, it was a bit tone deaf, but in the big picture, it makes sense. Just a lowy situation for fans, but a good thing for the players.

  18. There’s always a chance that star players miss some of the last games of the season.

  19. "I'm never going to game again". Yeah, you could have never had that opportunity after the mid-2000s, until Sid and Geno gave their blood, sweat and tears. You missed them in a game. Yes, that sucks. And if they both got blown up by Tom Wilson for career-ending injuries, you'd be asking "why were they even playing a meaningless game".

  20. Makes you appreciate a player like Michael Jordan…who never sat out game (unless badly injured)…and never let coaches sit him….it's rare to have players playing every game. Really happy for Ovi, if there are two players who impacted the game aside from Gretzky, it is Ovechkin and Crosby.

  21. Screw the fans, any peon knew what the penguins were going to do and yeah, some of them showed up in DC to honor Ovi and then skated around the rink avoiding contact as much as possible
