@Capitals de Washington

    It only sucks for it maybe being Ovi last season. Otherwise this team wasn’t going anywhere and had been inconsistent ALL SEASON. Reason to be hopeful about future but team wasn’t going to get in and then suddenly surprise….that just wasn’t going to occur. This franchise has definitely found every which way to do it over the years, from Presidents trophy to immediate playoff collapse, to March/April runs to qualify, to Fast starts like last year only to lose their way come playoffs. This was a C grade year the whole way, fitting for it to end the same. I want Ovi to stay and push for 1,000, but then again I like the kids on this club and I want him gone, so the new phase can truly grow…….Either way a fan since somewhere around 1984-85, I think. Absolutely remember the Islanders/Caps Easter playoff 4 OT game. Seeing a Caps/Red Wings 8-7 or 9-8 (years ago, Yzerman days) live and Philly/Caps games when 300+ penalty minutes wasn’t unsual certainly solidified my love of this game, my favorite sport.

  2. Bro, Don’t cherry pick games we lost and say those are the reasons we lost. We didn’t manage the schedule very well and it was a tough schedule at times. It didn’t help that in the first week of the season we lost our best 2-way centre, and oh it also didn’t help that our best player was 40 years old and had to be aggressively managed to play only in O-Zone draws. IN general not a huge deal but when your other best player who takes all the D-Zone draws can’t play for 60 games, it has a ripple effect.

    We would have won the pacific division if we played in the west. Learn from our mistakes this season. Send Ovi off to the pasture and build from there.

    Next year will be better, a full season of Cole and Ilya, it’s super exciting.

    Just worried we’ll overpay for a goalscorer, who will suddenly and inexplicably, stop scoring once he puts on a caps jersey.

    Sucking donkey balls at the shootout and to a somewhat lesser extent OT didn’t help either.

    Oh well. It just sucks that the wait for next season always feels so long.

    There’s a macro and micro component, being terrible at shootouts and other season long issues are as important to acknowledge as the 2 games mentioned they lost down the stretch that should have been winnable. Those blowout losses made no sense and happened at the worst time.

    But inevitably regressing from a league leading shooting percentage last year while not having that additional scoring help from either a FA/trade acq and also having Connor see a true drop in terms of production didn’t help at all. Protas saw a dip in his stats as well but he likely leveled out more realistically this season (more shots/fewer goals/ but 15.9% shooting down from 21.1%)

    I still don’t understand how we lost to Rangers 1-8…
