Low key top 5 commentary highlight of the season: Ken calling Mick « Venison Boy » last night when Mick referred to the EBUG as « EBUC(k). »
I mean that it genuinely HOF level banter during a game.
Despite missing the playoffs they played a lot of watchable hockey and considering how this team has been in the past I appreciate that.
I enjoyed the season overall, game to game, and besides the disappointment I never hit a point where I wanted to or did stop watching because of how miserable they were to see in action.
Hopium for next year already at full power.
BTW how are the Tigers supposed to be? I don’t usually follow baseball but I need something to fill the gap until football starts and the Bengals and Lions rip my heart out again. I think the cat teams have made me immune to sports disappointment.
What do you think it takes to land a young superstar, namely Bedard, Celebrini, or McKenna, and would you do it?
Since we love to give up NHL firsts for players and this season has really gone off the rails, why not highlight an NHL last.
Johnathan Quick is retiring and his final NHL win was 4-1 over a hapless Detroit last week. In fact, two of his 6 wins for this year for the lowly Rags have been 4-1 Ws against a Detroit.

At least the Tigers were able to pull themselves together and the Pistons are locked for the 1 seed

Sometimes it’s the little things
Edmonton went from the SCF in 05-06 to having a « decade of darkness » from 06-07 until 15-16 in which they had won the draft lottery 4 TIMES, 3 times in a row in 2010-2012(Taylor Hall, RNH, Yakupov), and then being gifted the number 1 pick in Connor McDavid, a generational player and who currently happens to be the best player since Gretzky retired. They also drafted Draisaitl R1 P3 in 2014, another top 5 NHL player in current day. In this « decade of darkness » of not making the playoffs they had 13 first round picks, 8 of being Top 10.
Detroit in its « decade of darkness » went from 25 years straight of playoff appearences and 4 cups, to no playoffs in 2016-17 to current day. The Wings have had 12 first round picks, 7 Top 10 and never won the lottery. They have never drafted higher than 4th overall, in the 2019-2020 season, where they finished last in the league but fell 3 spots in that lottery. It then caused uproar and the NHL soon changed it’s draft rules to where the worst team can no longer drop past the 3rd overall pick.
Unless I’m missing someone Soderblom is set to become the first Detroit Yzerman draft pick to play in the playoffs. Sebrango sorta beat him there with Ottawa last season but never played. Dunno if he was even with the team
