I am finding myself having to do some deep breaths before i start keyboard mashing my frustration. I feel for you guys having to do to this. Must feel like groundhog day? My days of just observing and not commenting are over. I will be vocal about this even if it's just for my mental health. Kept it pushed down for too long. F*** this team. Needs to change drastically.
Great episode guys
Would love to bring back Kane, but Yzerman still needs at least a top 2 C. We also need a top 6 LW to free up Finnie for the 3rd line with Kasper/ Danielson and maybe MBN… He also needs to clear out some of the bottom 6.
We’re congratulating this team for not celebrating too much, or looking decent? Good god, read the fucking room.
So now the standard is after the massive choke job is creativity and not over celebrating after goals
😅
Perron ain’t coming back. He’s sick of this loser team.
But Kane really blew it when he got that penalty which cost the Wings the game and a playoff spot. The play made no sense. If you were going to throw a game, that is what you would do.
I haven't watched or followed a game in weeks except for the Devil's game. It seems to me that not only can this team not handle pressure but the completely crumble when a goal gets called back. I'm pretty sure they lose every time a goal gets called back. It destroys their momentum more than any team I have ever seen
It’s not just that they missed the playoffs- it’s how. Being in the 2nd in the conference to out of playoffs is an all time choke job. There should be sweeping roster and organizational change. Otherwise we as a fan base can no longer take this team seriously.
This is probably an offseason topic, but… looking ahead to next season, let's assume good outcomes in free agency and trades. We pick good pieces to fill holes in the roster and get rid of some dead weight. You go into next season with the assumption once again that you HAVE TO make the playoffs…
What team in the East are you displacing to make it in? Tampa? Montreal? Buffalo? Ottawa? Do you think Florida isn't going to be better next year too? Teams like Pittsburgh, Philly, NYI, CBJ, and NJ are also going to be looking to make the playoffs in the Metro. You'll be fighting at least three of those for a Wild Card again as well.
You have to hope that either Buffalo was a fluke or Boston finally crumbles like we thought they were going to this year. Preferably both because Florida can't possibly be this bad again. Ottawa only needs average goaltending to be in contention for a divisional seed.
Detroit is in the absolute worst position they could possibly be in: the mushy middle of an absolute gauntlet of a Division and conference, where almost everyone is a playoff hopeful.
If Detroit was somehow in the Pacific division, playing those teams 5 times a year, they probably would have had 120 points this season.
If ASP had of given the puck away, or made some bone head plays that Faulk did in this game, he would have been benched.
Larkin hangs out with poopjeets
I'd like Kane back, but his even strength minutes need to be reduced to third or fourth line minutes.
As frustrating as it is not making the playoffs, 92 points for Wings shows improvement. The east was just insane this season. Get rid of the "Jersey's" and trade for an impact forward. Hopefully, a center.
As a Sabres fan, thank you Wings for taking them to OT
Yep, 92 pts means nothing. It wasn't enough.
Last night they played against a player with about 130 points – wings could. To score this year but for the usual!!I am a firm believer that your top 6-8 players need to be able to move around if needed – they flat out don’t have the personnel to put cat larks and Raymond on a line – and expect any other line to be able to worth more then a goal every 5-6 games – if they did add a left winger – a center/wing great but years now the same problem slightly diff situation – if they can’t get a stud – or a star ⭐️- good lord at a min get a serviceable player – only the red wings do a what 50-60 year epic shit show last 1-4 of the season – thier identity became once again became softness and mental break downs – ( and we lost Larkin for 2 ) weeks so let’s play hard while he’s out but when he gets back on one leg – let’s just sit back lol 😂 one thing after another with this team staying a bubble team is stupid pick a lane and commit to it – they know
What they have
For what it's worth I l prefer Ginger Ale. Ray L
I’m liking this episode in the sole basis of the conversation about Soda at the end of the episode.
Pepsi Zero Sugar. Coke is so overrated.
It blows. Detroit is a playoff team and another march collapse. Positives. I think the defense looks solid with Faulk addition. I think there is still a lot of talent in the ahl. Detroit needs to move assets for Thomas.
Kane absolutely should be back. The numbers/impact proves this and also shows that the problems lie elsewhere…depth, talent, bottom 6.
When you look at events objectively the real difference between the players Yzerman signed in Tampa and Detroit is Nikita Kucherov…..
Put him on this Red Wing team and you are definitely in the playoffs…
either brian isnt feeling the pressure either or he's just channeling all his anger because his ad reads were flawless
I don't mind bringing Kaner back, but he's not a top six guy anymore.
Big deal.
Get rid of the bottom six by any means necessary. Send them to GR if you have to. Send a message. Bring up all the kids. Fire Alex Tanguay v
Ok let me just dive in here with some thoughts, yes you like to see Perrons reaction to scoring his goal but at the same time it's probably more from him about being traded from a team who made the playoffs to a team that didn’t (and honestly kind of mindboggling to trade for him to begin with but i'll get back to that)… If you watch the bench right after Kane got his 1400 point mark, everyone around him (Cat & Copp mostly) was smiling ear to ear and laughing looking happy as heck, so not sure that was the case for the entire team being sour over scoring etc in a meaningless game, which they probably should.
About McLellan its obvious he have gone back to his LA coaching days; constantly favors tired old declining vets over young guys with upside, which was same here with what you're talking about MBN, Kasper on 4th line mins, its absolutley odd at this point.
But about Cossa not being in Detroit this year instead of Talbot, i do have to somewhat defend the choice cause it is pretty simple; he most likely would not be much better (THEN you can argue if he WOULD BE better of playing in the NHL or keep working on his game at AHL level for next year). Then also he said at the presser that they couldnt even if they wanted because they used up their 4 callups or whatever it is you get after the TDL… either way people screaming for Cossa this season needs to actually WATCH GR games rather then just stare at stats (which even our ECHL goalie and tryout goalie matched or was better then Cossa on this historically great Griffins team). Cossa have same issues that Yzerman said pretty bluntly in the offseason meaning he aint NHL ready; not being consistent over a full season. Last dozen games Cossa have around 85%, compare that to Postava (same age, undrafted. Why did we HAVE TO give up a 1st and a 2nd that ended up being Wyatt Johntson & Logan Stankoven for Dallas, to draft a guy who had bellow 20 games of sample size that year, is a diffrent conversation) have been over 94% same timeframe (1,5-2 months) and Postava is the guy that actually should have gotten the NHL nod when they forced Gibson to play back to back or when they HAD TO insert an injured ice cold Talbot who hadnt had a start for about 2 months. THAT is the goalie we should be talking about, Cossa just is because he was "supposed to be the next Vasiljevski draft selection" or whatever, which was a huge gamble to take over Wallstedt (if you HAD TO get a goalie in the first round he was 99 out of 100 scouts saying was the guy worth doing it for, but i digress…)
Other then this my thoughts are simply this… I don't know what people expected of Faulk since he has always been an offensive dman who are mediocre at defence. I guess because this team's been waaaay bellow mediocre for so long on defence (outside of 1st pair that is), Faulk was considered "elite" or whatever, but not even close to even when he was in his prime, which he at 35 now obviously are not.
The critic Yzerman should get about that specific trade that was not adressing it in the offseason, specifically im talking about that 2nd pair (there is also no excuse for trading Söderblom for basically bringing in 1 month of an injured 38yo David Perron, but i think thats a given for everyone now…) that's been an major issue since Hronek got traded. Around the TDL the prizes was what it was, but it was him being there NEEDING to adress it at all cost to begin what that was the problem. And that for a declining 35yo… The prize he gave up should have been given back in the offseason more of a player in his prime, not the back end of it. It's a shame that Yzerman waited until trade deadline to crack on pressure to then being forced to half-ass in desperate fashion to adress the teams need, when he then actually went astray from his own patient model of trading away future (and yes, Buchelnikov was the ONLY REAL BOOM prospect we had and can very well become the next Kaprizov once he comes over, remember that both him and Datsyuk was 24 once they came to NA, Buchelnikov have just turned 22…) for short term patch work…
I've defended Yzerman this entire rebuild but his trades (and free agent signings) last few years you just cant defend, either it's him or his pro scouting staff, but they have time and time again blown it. The one thing they done above average in is drafting and hitting on most higher ones (well again the Cossa draft choice was questionable at the time and today 5 years later not knowing if he even holds up as a backup on a full season when he cant hold a starter job for a full season in the AHL, says it all), but now dipping into that trading away declining vets can only take you into another rebuild… And NO, trading a kings ransom for 33 year old Trocheck (REMEMBER WE CHOOSE TO SIGN COPP OVER WHEN HE WAS AVAILABLE "FOR FREE) is NOT the answer. If you are gonna go out pay premium plus plus for a top six center, you gattu make sure it's a guy that's still reasonable still in his prime (like Thomas) or COULD jump right back to it under right circumstances (like EP40). We just CANT keeo going after 33-35 year olds and expect that to be the solution to build a SUSTAINABLE WINNER. If you are trading significant assets they should all be in 24-28yo range tops. Again, i'm utterly dumbfounded we gave up on 24 year old Söderblom to bring in a 38yo Perron even on a depth move, but at this point im just repeating myself… Lots of moves that deserves critic that's for sure, im just getting nervous that the worst is yet to come with how much pressure that can come after this year, we could see more desperate "quick fixes" trades, i'm talking like how when Caps GM was so desperate to keep his job so he made the notoriously horrendous Filip Forsberg for about 2 months of Martin Erat trade… So yeah type of stuff.
I just don't trust this pro scouting AT ALL, and i wonder where the trade wizard from his tampa days went, where he not only was great at finding later round elite talent in drafting (like Point, Kucherov, Cirelli etc) but made several shrewd trades like Sergachev, Cernak, McDonagh etc… It's like the rest of the GM's stopped even taking his calls from how he (and their problems scouting staff i guess) made every other GM he dealt with during his Tampa days look foolish… I don't know how else to describe it, just such a MASSIVE diffrence… Maybe you are only as good as the people you surround yourself with, no? Maybe it's the people in his ears that where a lot more competent in Tampa then in Detroit.
Anyways just my two cents and venting after staying up every damn night here in Sweden during this rebuild and even me, who usually finns positives in the negative outcomes, am really starting to get feed up and seriously considering just cancel my subscription that i paid, and again cant stress enough, havnt missed watching a Wings game, since we got access here from Viaplay NHL broadcasting back in 2013 (also a big factor why i have worked night for well over a decade now when i've started during this time living my life after U.S time lol), even though it's my biggest interest and passion in life, it's honestly starting to effect your mental health at some point investing so much in a fandome of a team that just are an utter shadow of their former self. Wasnt meant to be this long of a post, i guess I had a bigger need to vent then i even thought… Now another summer depression is looming… This is the part i would end with a #LGRW, but i guess #GoGR is the one last little hope of a silver lining left for this season not being another COMPLETE waste of time…
Who cares about individual goals….we want the cup! 1,400 pts for a guy that will always be known as a blackhawk…..
You guys forget about Mazur? Let him get some time with Larkin and Raymond. Finnie doesn't need the 1st line minutes right now.
"I still believe in, like, the core players of this team" Scotty, why?! They're not capable of playing winning hockey. This rebuild hasn't succeeded. It's very much okay to say so at this point.
Faulk was absolutely useless. Paid big for him and he was garbage. Scoring goals when they’re already down 3 and he’s trash defensively. Ask any blues fan they’re saying this trade was a fleecing of all fleecing
Also Perron is probably pissed he was traded to a team who collapsed and fell out of the playoffs while watching his former team mount a come back into the playoffs..
Free agent market??? Paging Mr. Ehlers
