Let’s hope we lose these next 2 games and be in the top 8 at least
I’m not super upset that we didn’t make playoffs as long as we learned some important lessons from the latter half of the season.
The young guys are ready to play, and we should move out other guys to make room for them over the offseason.
As far as drafting goes I’d like a good pick and honestly anywhere in the top 10 is good. I haven’t been paying super close attention this year so I’m really not familiar with anyone in it. If anyone can let me know who we are possibly looking at for picks. I also might just look myself too.
But at this point may as well go as low as we can go to get someone who could potentially be an impact player.
Why is it comic sans? So hard to read lol.
Jets need to lose two and hopefully get past Florida. It’s unlikely but we could also get past Seattle as well.
Depending on which prospect ranking you go with the window we are in doesn’t matter. between 6-11 are roughly players all with similar ceilings, it just comes down to which position and style of player you want.
What we really need is a lottery win to hopefully get a player that can make an impact next year, otherwise its going to likely be better to trade the pick.
A lottery win for 1st or 2nd would be ideal of course. 6th or 7th is fine because someone higher may go ‘off the board’. After that, the value for this team right now drops off pretty fast and its probably better to trade for an immediate impact player.
Seems like the current top 5 are McKenna,Stenberg Reid, Malhotra, Verhoeff
All seems to have high end NHL projections
And not likely available unless we win the lotto
The next 5 , one of Rudolph,Smits,Beltchez, Lawrence,Carels is likely who we get if we end up 6-10 in the draft order
Unless the Jets scouts go off the board
Just thinking of who might be left on the board if we were drafting in that 6th-8th spot:
Definitely gone- Likely franchise forwards in Mckenna and Stenberg
Probably gone- the 2 likely future top pair Dmen in Verhoeff and Chase Reid, both RDs which would be a dream if they fell.
Who’s left- Carson Carels (LD) Viggo Bjorck (C), Alberts Smits (LD), Daxon Rudolph (RD), Oliver Suvanto (C), Caleb Malhotra (C), Tynan Lawrence (C), Ethan Belchetz (LW) among others.
Positive is that in terms of organizational needs, lots of Centers and RD available.
But when it comes to best pick available, If we fall to 10-11 I would very strongly consider trading the pick to see if we can get someone that offers more immediate help, particularly to our top 6.
If we win the draft lottery and Chevy makes somewhat smart decisions this summer (buy into youth and speed), I truly believe we can do another 180 next season and be back near the top.
I know it will never happen but I’d love to see the schedule and playoffs change to this system:
1. Shorten season by 7 games
2. Top 8 teams play a round robin to set playoff seeding.
3. Middle 16 teams play a best of 7 to qualify for the playoffs.
4. Bottom 8 teams play a round robin for draft placement. Best team gets 1OA and down.
This system would get rid of tanking, and the randomness of the lottery. Every team would have something to play for in the last weeks of the season.
The odds of first pick are 4.4 to 7% from 7-10. Isles hit the lottery last year so it’s doable.
