He’s right. The whole team just quit. For example just watching Marchenko over the last month has been asinine. His body language and effort looked like he wanted to be anywhere else. His shootout attempts in the few games that went that far looked like he wasn’t trying at all. If this is what’s needed to get a fire under this team like Torts was years ago then re-sign Bones please.

If our top scoring forward has that type of effort and body language, just shows how fucked the team is overall. Sickening really. Bones needed to say this shit earlier. At least he’s saying it now but where was this a week ago.

Good. I really was hoping we wouldn’t see this side of him but now in the player’s exit interviews we’ll see who’s playing for the team and who’s out for themselves.

  3. Sounds like if he’s back, a number of players won’t be back.

Time for management to make tough decisions about who this team is, and who they want to be.

  4. Own_Orchid_6531

This is how I feel about this team.

  5. Stevey-T614

Can Torts come back and He and Bowness co-coach the team back to giving a hoot?… What the heck is going on?!…

  6. Bootsalter

Extend him this week and start offseason conditioning before the conference finals.

Get him in the room with Waddell to construct the roster.

This type of coach is a dying breed and EXACTLY the type of guy that Columbus needs. Just beyond riled up.

  7. Im less in tune with hockey culture as i have paid closer attention for longer to baseball and basketball, but i am shocked that a coach would publicly say his players dont care. Like i initally thought this must be fake.

Im not criticizing bones, btw. I guess im just wondering if that is more common in hockey or if he really is making waves by saying something like that.

  8. steveslikewhoa

Finally someone in this organization has the balls to say it like it is

  9. dragovitch101

Please for the love of God can we extend Bones

  10. Surviveoutofspite

I’m glad someone is being honest.

  11. Navyblazers2000

It’s been a problem with the organization since day one. Glad he said it.

  12. CBUS-OBN

Good on Bones for saying it but why hasn’t he been trying to change the culture already? Both teams made business decisions to not get hurt.

  13. ghostinyourbeds

Elvis, Boone, Guddy, and Monahan have to go.

  14. Macarons124

People will be upset about him ratting out his guys publicly but this level of a meltdown is truly disappointing

  15. TimshowMcNocky

2 out of the 3 players who wear a letter on their chest are free agents. Change may/needs to start there

  16. ReyCo390

You’d think a team who got axed the game before the season ended would want to prove a point. Nope, game could have been an email. This club needs change and send anyone out who thinks differently. The Browns of Hockey and anyone wearing the sweater should want to change that if they want to play here.

  17. Imaginary_Ganache_29

He needs to be back. And whoever he says doesn’t care needs to be gone. I don’t care who they are, what letter they wear or where they were drafted.

I’d much rather blow it up and fill the roster with guys who give a shit. I really don’t think they need many holes to fill, but if some guys are okay collecting a paycheck and then going golfing, then they cannot be in that locker room next season.

Fucking good for him… I know there aren’t many shows about hockey but love this Shoresy quote…

« The kids don’t want it. They don’t skate. They don’t score. They don’t hit. They don’t fight. They float. »

    « They don’t love to win… »

    *** »They don’t hate to lose. »***

  19. soundwithdesign

Heard him on the radio and I absolutely want him back 100%. Agreed with everything he said. And if any player is hurt by his comments, doesn’t like it, whatever, they can go somewhere else IDC. We don’t need that attitude. Also loved him saying some guys are so lucky there’s no practice tomorrow.

  20. FailedLoser21

I know I’m going to sound crazy saying this: But he’s right players today don’t hate to lose. I think back on my own athletic career I can still see the younger players on the team not understanding why I was upset and pissed at our Quarterback for taking himself out of the game when we where only down by 7 during my last game. They where literally taught it’s alright to lose. While I and people around my age where taught that losing happens but you don’t have to like it. I hate losing, to this day it’s the one thing I hate. I can accept I lost and look back and from learn my mistakes but man does it eat at me for a day or so.

  21. I wish they would name names. I want to know is driving this culture of not caring.

  22. Wish he would have said it sooner. What happens next will definitely be interesting.

  23. arcticfemlove

As a jets fan, I loved him, best coach in jets 2.0. He completely changed a culture, the culture that made Maurice resign. He called out schiefele and Connor in pre season, he called out the team in the media, and although he was gone when they won the presidents trophy last year, he was the main reason they won. Arniel just rode bones coattails. Hopefully toy guys get to keep him!

  24. Indy-CBJ

Might as well announce the extension tomorrow. You can’t drop a truth bomb like that and not re-hire him

  25. PROFESSIONAL_RAP254

Great to see someone calling it out for what it is. Hopefully he comes back

  26. FailedLoser21

I just watched his presser. Quite frankly the whole team has to be gutted. Boone has to be gone it’s as simple as that. Quiet frankly if Z is not trade he needs to earn that C or an A back. Management told these players: « we don’t think you are the problem we think the coaching is the problem. We will even try to make this team better » The players at-least owed it to management to sell out every damn game for Rick Bowness. They didn’t. That’s a failure of everyone wearing a C or an A. I absolutely can not understand the mentality of an athlete who doesn’t sell out every chance they get to play their sport it’s unfathomable as someone who still competes. (And so we are clear by sell out I mean give 100% effort every day)

  27. Raider_3_Charlie

And here I thought I was being overly critical when I thought a number of the
looked slow on the ice and sloppy with shots or passes.

  28. This is a coach who plans on coming back, and this was all about setting the tone for the off season and going into next year

  29. jacketsfan50

All of the guys have to learn to hate to lose. You won’t have any success if you are complacent about losing.

  30. redditistreason

Heard enough, bring him back, give him a full season to deal with this shitshow.

  31. KyloSolo723

FO heard these comments and didn’t immediately re-sign Bones? We desperately need a culture change.

  32. TTBurger88

Give that man whatever he wants to come back next season.

  33. HermanBonJovi

The front office should be tripping over themselves RN to sign this dude.

If they don’t, it’s a sign that it’s not just the players that don’t care about losing.
