I mean IMO us not dropping would be the same as winning the draft lottery.
Why not trade up, we have the picks to make it happen.
I don’t think so. If we’re trading the #1 pick I’d imagine we aim higher than Knies. Good player though and someone I’d be interested acquiring, but not for #1. I have no idea how to evaluate players though so I could be way off here.
I wouldn’t hate it (assuming Toronto wouldn’t be asking for a lot more, and I think they would be) but I think if they stick at 2 and grab Stenberg that works too
If they move down to 3 or 4 maybe trading the pick becomes more attractive, but Stenberg could still be there depending on who picks at 2 and 3.
No and no.
It was already reported they wanted Levshunov, 1st, and more. A 4th overall by itself wouldnt do it.
I think they ask for Lev/Rinzel AND the pick.
I don’ do it as Chicago.
I think in the end they will ask for too much and not move him anywhere this offseason. Others, though…
I’d rather select Verhoeff/Reid and package something like Lardis, Rinzel + the Panthers 1st for Knies
Straight up? Sure. But TOR is going to want more and it stops making sense for both sides at that point.
Knies is great and would immediately make this team better, but he’s not a superstar and Toronto only moves him if they tear it all down, in which case I think they’re looking for quantity+ quality, not just quality.
No.
I think if the pick is 1/2 you use it on one of mckenna or stemberg, but if the pick is at 3/4 you trade it for knies or another established player
Exact scenario I hope happens. (If not in 1st or 2nd overall obviously)
3rd or 4th overall would be nice. Carels, Reid, Verhoeff, Malholtra etc. can all be game changers but the Hawks can’t wait the years it will take for them to develop, with like what were actively seeing from our current D corps
Toronto reportedly wanted Levshunov in the deal to make it happen for Knies. Davidson should and could make the pitch that those 3 D prospects listed above can be just as good in return. Toss in maybe Edmonton’s 1st and a mid round and the top 6 looks a lot better next year
I don’t see the leafs trading him. They won’t rebuild. The people up top won’t allow that. So knies will stay
I don’t give up our 1st, no. I think Ivar and Verhoff are both studs. If we bounce down 2 spots, I would take offers, but I highly doubt I would move a 4ovr at worst.
Now, the FLA pick? Or EDM next yr? Oh, we can absolutely punt that plus pieces for good stuff.
Toronto would very likely do this assuming they have accepted the concept of a rebuild. Realistically their window is now in the 2030s at best.
For Hawks, probably won’t trade the pick unless they end up at #4 and don’t like who is left after top 3 off the board or they are confident in our D and don’t want to wait to develop another in the timeline. I would guess that’s not the plan even if some fans don’t have the patience for it.
As a consideration on all these potential trade scenarios – the Hawks are much further than one Knies from contending and the team knows it. It’s not like « filling that one missing piece to get them over the hump ». Some fans just want a big move to show progress and find a new source of hope or otherwise fire the GM. Makes sense to feel that way but ultimately we need a lot of players to hit to potentially beat out 31 other teams in the next couple years and unless the prospects develop and the team elevates their play collectively, we could bring in McDavid himself and it wouldn’t be enough to get us beyond round 1.
Right now we are in the get a bunch of lottery tickets and see what hits stage and then once we get momentum we might be able to lure a decent FA to the program. Also, we do have assets to make trades but we need to swing for top-25 player potential for the top line which Knies is probably not. That being said, we will definitely make some trades on draft day as we just have so many picks and prospects we need to exchange quantity for quality.
No
No, even without lucking into McKenna we have a very good chance of landing Stenberg with the 2-4 pick
You had to use AI for this?
No, and something tells me that, based on ownership comments, Knies won’t be on the market at least until the trade deadline (and only if the Leafs suck again), if at all.
I would hope that if they land outside of the top two picks, they at least entertain including the pick in any trade offers or packages
If the Leafs trade Knies they are truly so stupid. He’s a 23 year old power forward who can play in all situations. You build around that.
You keep 3rd OA is basically every scenario. You look to dump futures on Knies/Thomas.
If they pick outside the top two and take Chase Reid, then I’d be very much okay with sending Lev/Rinzel + whatever combination of picks/prospects for Knies.
No. Stick with lucking out in lottery. Get a good d-man like Verhoeff.
ENOUGH ABOUT MATTHEW KNIES. my god you guys are insufferable
We don’t want knies don’t need him he’s unproven.
If it’s 1-for-1, I’d consider it for pick 3 or 4.
The problem is that they’ve been asking for more, specifically defense. Our cupboards are getting pretty bare there as it relates to promising young defensemen prospects. Regardless of if we use the pick on a defensemen, can’t really afford to give up Lev or Rinzel right now.
Leafs wouldn’t touch a 1st for Knies, thats not even close to enough for what they would be willing to give him up for.
Would definitely have to be a high 1st + 1 or maybe even 2 young players depending on who Toronto wants/ who the Hawks would be willing to give up
Should go after mintyukov from Anaheim
