@Islanders de New York

La famille de la victime est en colère contre la collecte de fonds des Islanders pour un policier condamné

Nous sommes vraiment les pires à bien des égards.

Jesus fucking christ. Why are we so hatable?

  2. Boner666420sXe

What the fuck is wrong with this team?

  3. apatheticVigilante

I’m not sure why we’d throw our hat in with something even potentially contentious. Odd choice, there

  4. Mephisto1822

My guess is the team was asked by the union to put up the ad and they didn’t look into that much…

    > The union’s president, Vincent Vallelong, said the fundraiser came together after someone at The New York Post informed him that the Islanders « wanted to do something » for Duran.

    Oh for fuck sake!

  5. Alternative-Row-8557

Very odd. There has to be more of a reason for this. Or maybe someone at a lower level in the game ops org just snuck this in without getting it approved

  6. Junior-Captain-8441

Ooof that is one huge L. What a stupid decision.

  7. tedsmarmalademporium

After the ICE advertisement in the program this team loves pissing off its fanbase, then they play and piss off everyone

This sucks so hard. Never been embarrassed to call myself an Islanders fan until this moment.

  9. Extreme_Whereas1960

Oh lawdy lawdy wo don’t want to upset the family of a predicate felon evading arrest now do we?

  10. Substantial_Rice_198

Should be angered that your family member was a drug dealer who was probably hurting more people.

  11. Wafflestarship

Gotta think some low level front office stooge didn’t do their due diligence and let this through. Embarrassing

  12. No_Paramedic_2039

Such a Rags move. Regardless of what you think about the legal case, the Isles needed to stay miles away from this. Embarrassing and inappropriate.

  13. MaasNeotekPrototype

This is an easy one to be on the side of the good guys. Cops who go to prison are not the good guys.

  14. Desertstarr

Police unions really are powerful, wouldn’t be shocked if they aren’t like a box holder and asked the Islanders to do this. And isles being cash straped went for it.

  15. Yeah I was at the game and they mentioned something on the jumbotron about a fundraiser for appeal fees for a cop and I was like « uh oh…not great chances they’re on the right side of this one.. »

  16. Terrible-Nerve-6819

And of course reddit has the bat shit opinion that criminal good. Cop bad.

  17. Mrenato83

Fucking gross. How can you even begin to think this is ok?

  18. I really don’t see a problem with this, the guy was dealing drugs, and the cop tried to stop him from fleeing.

It was a tragic incident, but manslaughter doesn’t seem appropriate.

  19. No-Stay3118

Good for the Islanders. Fuck the victim and his family. Judge admittedly said he was making a statement with the sentence of 3 – 9 years and said cop should have let the drug dealer go and find him another time. What are we doing here ? WTF. 🤬

  20. MassiveJammies

Legitimately who thought this was a good idea?

I hope the best reporters don’t let the team off the hook on this one, but I’m not holding my breath. The silence is almost worse than this promotion… Almost.

Military or police support is the biggest pandering situation in sports. It’s embarrassing and always so forced. Why is the military so intertwined in American sports? Were used to standing and clapping to honor some random army guy in the middle of a hockey game but if you sit and think about it, it’s weird and doesn’t make sense.

Oh, in case anyone thought this was a random employee screw-up, here’s our fucking owner posing and smiling about it. 🙄

  23. Better_Restaurant_54

The owner is a subliminally racist Zio if you notice they’re the only team that doesn’t wish a happy eid to its muslim fanbase but they do every other holiday

  24. WarlordMWD

I know reddit doesn’t do this « context » thing, but [the NY State Attorney General put up a security video feed that shows the manslaughter.](https://ag.ny.gov/osi/footage/eric-duprey)

The drug dealer was fleeing on a moped, and this cop picked up a stranger’s ice cooler and flung it into his head, WWE-style.

  25. Bossy2283

The only rationalization I can think of is that the NYPD and FDNY rent the building for their annual hockey game. Perhaps they want to keep a good relationship so that they keep playing their games at UBS. Still a bad look, no matter how you twist it

  26. Goodortho

The officer didn’t mean to kill him. Just like a drunk driver doesn’t mean to kill somebody when they’re driving drunk. The criminal was unarmed, and there are laws and police procedures about fleeing suspects. The only protest anybody could rightfully have is to change the laws about actions and the magnitude of the negative consequences. To some extent it seems unfair.- you/a guy in a hockey game and you get a two minute penalty. The same hits the wrong bone and breaks the guy’s ankle., if he’s a superstar, you get 10 or 20 games. Same slash. Thr cop would not have been prosecuted if he broke the criminals leg. But his action led to his death.
