  1. Flatoftheblade

23 year old elite power forward who is PPG when he isn’t playing in a system and on lines that are hot garbage where nothing is working for anyone. And he’s a playoff warrior too and has toughness and a nasty side to him which most of this team infamously lacks.

It would be completely insane to trade him in the situation we’re in where we need to think long-term. Which is probably why the Leafs will do it.

  2. Ilyalyubushkin

This story line is stupid. A good young player is always going to have a lot of trade interest around the league.

  3. Party-Yoghurt-8462

I don’t have a clue why you’d even consider trading this guy. For a second round pick, he has turned into a tremendous player. He’s basically putting up mid-first-rounder numbers for a late second round pick.

Even if you were going to tear it down and rebuild, he’s still young enough to be part of a rebuild. It makes no sense.

  4. GoblinDiplomat

Any plans to trade this fucking beast of a man are insane.

  5. Ya but maybe a draft pick we get in return could be the next Matthews Knies!

    What a silly organization

  6. -DocWatson-

Breaking News: There’s no guys upstairs and Kieth Pelly has no clue how to build an organization as a CEO.

  7. If the guy upstairs didn’t want us to play VLT’s he wouldn’t of created them in the first place

  9. Drummers_Beat

Correct me if I’m wrong but I haven’t seen one credible reporter say this?

  10. Trade Matthew’s please. He is a great player but he is injured all the time and doesn’t show up either because he is injured or God knows why.

  11. y2kobsezzed

if matthew’s ends up leaving we should make this guy captain

  12. Kaladin-of-Gilead

why do we gotta trade every fucking successful player

guy gets a tiny bit of value and all of a sudden every journalist thinks we’re trading him for the flavor of the week trade bait player.

  13. maharajagaipajama

Why couldn’t Matthews just say that?

  14. __esparoba

The captain also could’ve went thus route but didn’t js

  15. DataDude00

The fact that they apparently entertained trading him to fucking Montreal is absolute blasphemy.

Especially after the yolk on face that has happened trading with Boston they were really going to give Montreal a 23 year old power forward to go with their core?

Absolute fucking insanity to make that trade in division

  16. BackTo1975

Lot more commitment than Matthews expressed today. No shock, though.

  17. grfadams2

If anything we need to clone him and have a whole team of Knies

  18. TrueNorthStrong73

He’s the one player I don’t want to see traded! He’s a good player with lots of upward potential. With good leadership in place and a better system I say he finds himself again! This season was a shit show for everyone on the team, not just him, so fix that and he thrives again! I still believe Knies is the future building block of this team.

  19. Lumini_317

Unless the other team is overpaying I would much rather we keep him. Even in the case of an overpayment it would still hurt to lose him 🙁

  20. punkdrummer22

If they had traded Knies I would have given up on the Leafs for good.

  21. Thee_White_Wolf5211

Knies is good. Brings alot to the team. But he is not worth the money hes getting paid at all.

  22. hockeyfan2000

We want Knies as well. Fuck anybody trying to move this guy.

  23. RoleCalm1279

Y’all are going to hate me but there is one VERY specific set of events that could happen that if they do the Leafs must consider trading Knies, who I genuinely love as a player. If we win the draft lottery and take McKenna and manage to get Tuch or another PF in the off-season, you would then need to explore a Knies for a potential 1D trade. If Yzerman gets fired maybe a Knies for Axel Sandin-Pelikka+ trade, or if NYR takes a RHD top 5 in the draft and decides to blow it up maybe a Knies+ for Adam Fox. It would be a super quick solution for a potential bounce back next season. Again this guy is a drafted and developed Leaf. It would be a massive disappointment to trade a potential franchise legend and I would not want to, but that is an avenue they got to look at if certain events unfold.

  24. johnnyjj14

This is future captain material. No I can’t predict the future BS. Just a « I want to stay here, I want to be here. »

  25. Trading Knies would be really dumb. The fact that his name is even being mentioned is classic Toronto media.

  26. Prof_Scott_Steiner

If they trade this fucking kid I will lose it.

  27. Knies is that dude. We can’t continually flip our talented young players for some weak over the hill rentals. That much is abundantly clear.
