I find it odd that he played to start the season and didn’t get a single minute after getting hurt, I wonder if anything happened behind the scenes
Pedrochimique
I doubt it, but they could surprise the other team when/if facing elimination. Again, big doubts

I mean the single biggest factor in Laine not playing is how good Caufield is. The only spot where Laine really contributed to the teams success is in Caufield’s spot on PP1 and there is no chance he should have lost it. Laine playing PP2 and 5v5 on the 3rd line is a liability.

One day the truth will come out about the Laine situation. Marco seemed like he knew, so certain media people do know but they just can’t talk about it, likely until Laine is no longer a Hab.

the absolute chaos if Laine comes in facing elimination and scores repeatedly to save a series

No we’ll be using him in the playoffs. Once we do Tampa will cry foul but we’ll remind them of their cheat Kuchy-Kou.

Not complicated. Marty is a development focused coach and we’re one of the youngest teams in the league. Kapanen, Demidov and Bolduc will continue to improve for years to come.
Laine will turn 29 next season and has missed his prime years due to injuries.
Another team can take a chance on him, but we’ve already gotten more than our share of value from last years playoffs experience and trading the 2nd for Danault.

Laine will probably go to the Swiss league and score a boatload of goals there while having a lighter schedule that is easier on his body.
I think he still likes hockey, and given his talent, most assume he wants be playing at the highest level, but just because you can doesn’t mean you want to.
The toll it takes on the body and mind is not something anyone can deal with, and we’ve had a lot of players speak about how they fell back in love with the game once they went overseas. Plus, it’s not like he needs the money.

It’s simply better for all involved to keep on IR and say he’s not healthy…less drama, less pressure for a guy far down on depth chart
spitfiremk14
Back in Winnipeg he was a force. I wonder if it’s possible for him to get back into top form and not be a liability. He’s got such a great shot. Maybe a spot on the 2 pp unit.

From a x post a while back :
he can’t push his conditioning the extra gear to be fully game ready, doctors have told him that he’d probably re-injure himself simply said : If he gets injured again right now it means he’s rehabbing in the summer instead of levelling up his game for a new team.
The way things are right now I think is why he’s happy to hang back and rehab in Montreal as he’s getting a leg up on his conditioning

The only way I would have seen Laine back on the lineup is on a 4th with PP1 if Caufield is out
Caufield missed 1 game. Don’t know if Laine was healthy at that game but MSL picked Texier or Bolduc instead. So we would have to be missing quite a few offensive piece to see Laine added

I mean 5 on 5 the guy is atrocious. Where does he even slot in the lineup? Not good enough defensively and can really only make a difference on the power play. He is slow and injury prone. There’s really no redeeming qualities in adding him to the lineup. I like the guy, I think he’s a good person off the ice and clearly likes being with the team, but he’s not needed on the roster right now.
Synap-6
Could be he didnt get the green light from a physical standpoint, could be he didn’t get the green light from a mental health standpoint. Patty not playing is known throughout the leaghe, and if what the Habs are doing was illegal, there’d be other teams bickering or the Players’ association/union

A team can’t have an otherwise healthy player on the injury reserve. It’s not Marty’s lack of confidence in Laine that is keeping him off the roster.
The most obvious answer is that his not playing is health-related.

I think it just comes down to money, while hes on ltir his contract isnt full on the cap. I dont think we have the cap space to play him unless we send someone down
GasEarly186
I’d be down to see him play again, he could probably play a game, but he’s still out because he risks re-injuring himself. I know his 5v5 play was really bad, but I’d be curious to see how he plays now, he has such an elite shot and maybe the rest of his abilities have improved since the start of the season. I’m sure he’s a different player now, than what he was before all those months of rehabilitation and training.
He could get traded this summer, but I would like to see him get a last chance in Habs jersey.
Technical_Goose_8160
I’ve seen players get injured in the playoffs and another player come out of the press box rested and hungry. I’m really hoping that at some point Gally and Laine get a moment to shine.
EquivalentIsopod1291
Can we even activate him now if they wanted to. Do the cap rules allow it? I honestly don’t know how it works.
newf_13
It he will still get his name on the cup when we win !! And still get his cup bonuses
Antique_Soil9507
Good. The team is doing just great without him.
