Whether radio, TV, or our farm team the Wings have legendary on air talent. Enjoy your retirement Woods!

He has been calling games for longer than I have been alive. The last few years, I purposely would head to the garage to listen to the radio call.

Thank you Paul Woods. You brought me (and my dad) so much joy. Happy retirement. But damn it, the call won’t be the same without you.

What a great, uh, guy! While Ken Kal wasn’t my childhood voice of hockey like a lot of you (mine was Bruce Martyn), Paul uh Woods was there the entire time I’ve been a fan of hockey, first as a player and then as a broadcaster.

Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey, George Kell and Al Kaline, Bruce Martyn and Paul Woods… they all seemed so eternal 40 years ago. My how time flies.

Sad to see (or hear, I suppose) him go, but a well-deserved retirement.

  5. He rarely missed a game, and he’s the only radio color voice I know in my life. It was very strange hearing others fill in for him this season, even weirder to think he won’t be back on the mic next year. Fantastic career, I’m going to miss him.

going to miss him. knew how to properly enhance the broadcast while staying out of the play by play announcers way. hope ozzy takes notes, cause he hasn’t figured out when to stop talking

  7. Oh, no. It’s starting. I’m not ready for the voices of hockey to change. It was tough when Doc retired. Now, I’m dreading Mickey and Ken’s retirement, despite it all being well deserved.

  8. Those first 30 years was a hell of a time to have his job.

I almost didn’t recognize his voice when I saw his interview with Daniella. He definitely talks different on air.
