Of course it’s the Canucks where the information got leaked that the GM gets relieved of their duties.

  2. 21marvel1

Statement from the press release from Jim Rutherford:

“I would like to thank Patrik for all his hard work over the past four seasons,” said Rutherford. “Under his guidance we have accumulated a lot of good young talent, and he has helped us lay the foundation of our rebuild. This season was disappointing for everyone in the organization, and we understand how frustrating it was for those who care about the team. Moving forward our goal will be to continue to bring in younger players who can grow together with our current group and form our next competitive core.”

Thank god that reign of terror is over, I’m sure everything will be fine with a new GM to take the fall for Rutherford/Aqua.

  4. Obvious-Property-236

    Okay.

I’m 50/50 on this until I see who his replacement is.

  5. downonmatrix

Ryan Johnson is the next GM right?? If so he has to bring in manny

  6. TylerMyersLover57

Clearing the way for the Ryan Johnson/Tyler Myers dynasty

  7. NursingPRN

NOW RELIEVE RUTHERFORD AND MOST IMPORTANTLY AQUILLINI OF THEIR DUTIES

  8. LegendaryCanuck

Sad we didn’t get a “Patrik Allvin has announced Patrik Allvin has been relieved of his duties as GM”

  9. 21marvel1

“Rutherford will be made available to media today, Friday, April 17th, following player media availability at approximately 12:00pm PT.”

  10. Nomad_0024

Does it matter? Rutherford has been the real GM the whole time and he’s still here so we’ll just replace Alvin with another puppet.

  11. Imaginary_Trust_7019

In this case he truly is relieved of his duties. Good for him that he got to escape.

  12. Krapshoot

I don’t think we should be surprised by this outcome. At the same time, is Allvin the fall guy? It sure feels like it.

Exit meetings this afternoon are going to be really telling as to what happens next. Hopefully the media asks strong forward looking questions about the direction of this organization.

    Hopefully Foote is gone next.

  13. Kinda indifferent to this. Allvin made some mistakes, but we could easily hire someone much, much worse now (Trevling, Bergevin, etc.). Kinda seems like he’s the fall guy tbh, so we will see where this goes. If it’s RJ taking over and Manny coming in as coach, that could bode well.

  14. barelyincollege

    Thank God.

Allvin was the most uncharismatic, unlikeable, and generic GM we’ve had in a long time. The guy couldn’t avoid saying something cliche if his life depended on it.

  15. Fair-Calligrapher-19

Would never happen but I’d like to see Mike Gillis back.  He was a great GM, super forward thinker and hamstrung at the end not being allowed to rebuild when everyone could see it was needed.  Wish he could come back and finish what he started

  16. Chedda_biscuit10

Don’t know a lot about RJ but if he’s the next GM, I’m hoping he strikes us as a smart and savvy exec. Nothing personal against Allvin (I’ve never had to speak to the media in my non existent second language), but I’d love to hear press releases and think “fuck this guys smart, I’m glad he’s leading trade, draft, and contract negotiations”. I never got that feeling with Allvin. You want a guy with clear messaging at the top, I just remember how bamboozled he was when someone asked him if the Canucks had a culture problem (we did) and he gave such an awful answer.

  17. “Retool a little bit with a hybrid form” will go down as a generational quote

  18. Rutherford oversaw and locked into the implosion of the last generation but gets to guide the next one

    Interesting choice

« Rutherford will be made available to media today, Friday, April 17th »

    Oh dear **GOD NO**

  20. NotaRussianChabot

Trading for Evander Kane was a fire-able offence on its own.

  21. WhenInAaronRome

Great news. This is the first step, and the new GM should get to pick his own coach.

  22. great_save_luongo

Man that was quick. At least they ripped that bandaid off. Not much you can do besides firing Alvin after the season the team had but everyone knows Rutherford is running the show so how much a new GM changes things up is anyone’s guess.

  23. arazamatazguy

This is like firing this assistant coach.

We all know he wasn’t making the decisions but still takes the fall.

    A very Canucks-like move.

  24. DrexellGames

Honestly feel like Rutherford is the manager. Allvin is just his scapegoat

  25. JennaTuhl

My biggest gripe about his tenure was how often we would sell low on players, especially when the player’s value was low due to the contract that PA signed them to.

But overall, yes I agree, PA is a bit of a scapegoat, and far from our worst GM.

  26. ThisIsFineImFine89

    Fall guy for Rutherford.

Org. is such an embarrassment around the league.

Next GM has to wonder if he’ll just be the next fall guy, while Rutherford is allowed to make mistakes in their name.

  27. FraserValleyFan25

Firing the guy you gave a bunch of direction too is always interesting.

  28. dattroll123

And foote gets to stay? This chicanary! JR is a monkey with a machine gun!

  29. ishouldbemoreprivate

« Flat tire removed from wrecked car. »

  30. Alternative-Job-3016

Rutherford has to go too. Far too old and Senile for a rebuild. Enough of this whole management team.

  31. infinitez_

Damn, I liked Allvin. Sure there have been some mistakes, but he’s made some pretty solid moves for us too in the past few years. But alas, there has to be a scapegoat somewhere for this org. Wishing him all the best.

  32. RJ has to be the next man up if they actually denied Nashville to talk with him

I don’t think Allvin was the problem. He was Rutherford fall guy

  33. HighburyOnStrand

    Problem complex in order:

    1. Owner

    2. Rutherford

    3t. Foote
    3t. Allvin

We firing from the bottom in the wrong order.

  34. I don’t know why Allvin was fired. Let him rebuild!

  35. Why wasn’t Benning fired as quickly. Allvin was leaps and bounds better than Benning

  36. IndependentTalk4413

To bad the real problem can’t be fired.
