Not much difference between everyone that’s ahead of him, all within like 0.1 of each other. Then Chiarot is 0.6 worse than the 2nd worst guy in the league.
This guy fucking sucks eh?
Xvash2
I can’t say the pairing with Faulk improved much. They both have the same defensive flaws that kind of exacerbate one another.
BringbacktheFocusRS
Idk, Chariot does something that advanced stats seem to have a hard time picking up.
doltron3030
He’s a key part of the Yzerplan, good thing we extended him through 2028-29

>According to the statistics collected by [hockeystats.com/war](http://hockeystats.com/war), Ben Chiarot has repeated his feat from last year as having the worst Wins Above Replacement score for the regular season in the NHL. His last two years are the 4th and 5th worst single season totals all time since the statistic has been collected starting in the 2007 by the website. When sorting by WAR per 60 minutes to account for his relatively high minutes played, his season comes in at 767th of 784 qualified skaters with over 100 minutes played.
> »Red Wings fans that still view Chiarot as a positive contributor to the team will say that his contributions simply can’t be measured by analytics, or that he has been tasked with playing too high in the lineup on the 2nd pair for what he is capable of due to a lack of team depth on defense, but would be positive for the team playing bottom pair minutes. He is also viewed as a necessary veteran example to help the younger defenders learn how to play defense the right way.
>Entering into the season, he was in the last year of his 3 year deal. Despite not having had a season with positive WAR since 2019 for the Montreal Canadiens, the 34 year old was rewarded with a new 3 year, 11.55 million dollar contract. »

Important to note from this screenshot is that Chiarot got the 2nd most total ice time on that list aside from Brady Skjei.
Give him 3rd pairing minutes and he’ll probably improve.
That said, who’s going to play on the 2nd pair? Johansson?

Chiarot is a third pairing D man playing in the wrong position. His value is strictly around physicality. He could be replaced in the lineup if the Wings had more physical players. As long as they have a soft lineup, he will have a role.
Rebel_Bertine
Chiarot has good physical attributes which is what’s kept him in the league. However, the amount of times I’ve seen him completely lose his man in coverage that led directly to a goal scored is too many to count. Additionally, on offense he has virtually zero ability to create. Can’t recall how much we’ve had a good forecheck and cycle to finally get it back to the blue line just for Chair Rot to toss it back to the corner. The forwards, then gassed from all that hard work, lose possession easily and it’s heading our direction.

This is why this stat is so stupid. Chariot is not great. But would you rather see him or hammonic?
Chariot is a meh 3rd pair guy, who has been asked to do more than his skill set.
But he’s hardly “the worst”
He’s not even the worst on this team.
Wakattack00
I try to tell ya’ll every single year. This guy is a curse. He makes every single player around him worse. Just look at the guy who gets partnered with him then when they get away from him. But he has his defenders in this sub for some odd reason.

All coaches love consistency and reliability and Ben delivers!
but_aras
I have an idea. Let’s give this guy an extension.
JiffTheJester
You mean the dude we just extended?
Sorry_Return4889
Now do dump-ins/60 I guarantee he leads the league
Benglepuck
Congrats on the 3 year extension.

Shotokanguy this is your stage!
Let us hear your impassioned defense of your favorite uncle Benny

Yet you guys love him so much. This guy is a cancer to this team. Shitrot is who I call him.

Still getting top 4 minutes and resigned, and people wonder why our faith in the front office is what it is.
AirFriedSushi
Ben is so over hyped here.
WLScopilot
Interesting. I wonder who puts together the roster that ends up on the ice
CMCdaGoat
BTW Seider, Debrincat and Raymond are all top 31 in WAR. This team is being dragged down by like 4 players, with Chiarot being the worst of all them
Apollo_13TG
It’s Ben Shitrot
onbiver9871
Yes, but what is it good for?
Haterholic
Only guy who had a worse year than him was Yzerman.
Few-Hat2070
Are Detroit’s analytics guys this bad or are they not listening to them? 3 more years
Brewcity23
And another guy on the graphic, Tyler Myers blocked a trade to Detroit. Our pro scouting needs an overhaul.
