Kind of surprised!!!! I was thinking they’d go Gus but I’m happy they’re going with Wally, he’s been playing so well lately

  2. arctoslinnaeus

Holy shit I didn’t think they’d actually do it

  3. sleightmelody

Thank God. Wally’s been locked tf in.

  4. Nsflguru

Like hell I do. I made the same call. LFG!

  5. silentsirensongs

I will not be apologizing but omg Wally!!! I just really hope Gus is alright mentally and if and when we need him he’s out of the slump

  6. DudeAbides29

Hell yeah. He deserves the nod after standing on his head in the season finale.

Hynes wants that monkey off his back badly it appears

Honestly, I know people said this would like get into Gus head or whatever if Wall started. But what if it makes Gus play harder and better? To prove that he’s actually got it together? We all can only hope.

Man listening to worst seats yesterday actually has me a little worried about where Gus’s head is at. It’s clear they were intending on starting Gus but I suppose in these last few practices that Wallstedt either made himself undeniable or they are legit concerned about Gus.

    Let’s see what happens.

WE RIDE OR DIE WITH THE WALL OF ST PAUL. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love Gus, but I think this is the right call.

I’m stunned. In support of it, but stunned

  13. I fully support this decision, even if it backfires (I hope it doesn’t). I didn’t think Hynes would do it, but it’s much deserved for Wally.

Wally ended the season clearly better both in stats and confidence. You would be insane to disregard that just because of him being young and a rookie. Hot hand is hot hand, and that is Wally right now.

Interesting, he hasn’t played against Dallas at all this year, right? Obviously going with the hot hand, but also, throwing something Dallas hasn’t seen yet at them could be an advantage.

  17. I like this choice. Our goalie tandem basically developed into a 1a 1b situation so it’s reasonable to start the hotter one. Gus will be more than ready if/when his name will be called. My guess is that either will play at least a game in each round the Wild is in.

  18. shredthepatriarchy

As BG always says, you earn your minutes. Wally earned these.

  19. Game 1 is the only trial they’ve got. This tandem is better than this example but remember couple years back when it was Flower/Talbot? Same pre-series rumblings.. who do you start..? They mulled on it cause Cam was good down the stretch! But, finally said it’s Flowers net.

Good game one, W. Then game 2 he’s shelled. 1-1. We all go, oh shit… Dean leaves him in game 3, shelled again, worse too. 2-1. So the questions start coming, throw Cam in, they don’t.. and I think we were lost in 5 games. Cause it got in the boys heads.. Only won game 1. – Hindsight says game one back then you toss Cam in just to see what you have. If it doesn’t work, Flower is there for the grind.

So here. The skill delta between Gus and Wally is slimmer than it was back then yes but this is the smart play. Wally kills it, you ride him. Put Gus in at home here if you want to but the decision isn’t gonna sink us this year.

  20. magniturd

He earned it, nice to see coach playing the hot hand and not defaulting to the vet.

  21. Ratherdash33

Ride the hot goalie off the bat. And having Gus as a backup if things go sideways is an amazing option.

  22. PuckCm10

Simple choice. Play the hotter goalie, they learned from a couple years ago!

  23. naibseljk

wow!!!! I’m so happy for Wally, he’s really earned it. I have loved seeing his well-earned confidence and his goalie brain is so fascinating to me.
I imagine it was tough playing through the trade rumors, then being bummed about not getting ice time at the olympics, then back to constant trade noise, and now the starting goalie noise. Seems like he takes it all in stride and grows with it <3

  24. tompear82

This is a ballsy decision and unlike many of the « safe » decisions we’ve made in previous playoffs. It definitely has a chance of backfiring, but having Gus go out there and get shelled would also be bad. I like it

  25. Foreign_Sky_5429

There are some balls in the Wild organization. Bold move, I agree he’s the better goalie right now can be tough to actually do it tho
