Statistically, the Oilers suck in game 1, having won the first game of the opening series just one time with the 7 others ending in defeat. If I’m a betting man, I’d wager that the Ducks take game 1 and manage to score at least 4 goals.
In Game 2’s the Oilers have a 71% win rate, so I think I’m going to hand game 2 to them as well.
Game 3 and 4 might end up being a split as well, and for the Ducks’ sake, they had better hope that’s the outcome because they won’t win both. Having said that, the last couple seasons, the Oilers have managed to pull wins out in both games, so it could be uphill work for the Ducks.
The Oilers record in game 5, 6 and 7 for the first round is 9-1 combined, which is a pretty strong indicator of just how lethal they are in the playoffs. Even if the Ducks manage to sneak out a win in Game 6, you can bet your bottom dollar that will be the last win they see in the playoffs. Statistically speaking, that is.
Finally, we look at the season series between these two clubs. Oilers win 2 of 3 and outscore the Ducks 16 to 12. In the last 10 games of the season, the Oilers have gone 6-2-2 with only one of those regulation losses being by greater than a goal. The Ducks wrapped going 2-6-2, with 30 GF and 41 GA. The Ducks woes to end the season could either be a motivating factor for the team, or a sign of things to come.
My prediction is the Oilers in 5 with the reverse sweep.
