If being captain means changing his game in a meaningful way, then I’d rather he not be captain.

I really don’t think so. His willingness to put himself on the line for the team is probably a big reason why he’s inheriting the C.

Standing up for his teammates is *why* he’s getting the C. Not the only reason, but not a small one either. He’ll be the same player with or without it.

Tell me you weren’t a fan when Dale Hunter wore the C without explicitly telling me.

The playoffs kicked off yesterday with a puck-drop fight between captains

He already fights much less than he used to, his presence and the threat of him fighting is enough to deter a lot of nonsense. I think Duhaime fought more than he did this year.
Whether it’s Du or someone else we sign, I’d expect Captain Willy would be kind of the fighting Final Boss for the Caps, there as a deterrent and to respond to egregious hits or liberty-taking, but leaving the garden variety fights to others.

I think that’s what makes him Captain worthy is to stick up for his guys. Like Chara

the chirping is quintessential tom wilson. that’s never going to change. C or not

Wilson if he has to stop fighting

Duhaime is already our most frequent fighter this season. This changes nothing for Wilson

I feel like in the post-enforcer NHL, captains have a higher frequency of fights than most other players. The playoffs literally started with a captain-on-captain fight at the opening faceoff yesterday.Â
Wilson should still be very picky about it, as he has been for years now. Very few players who are as valuable as him (top line players) would be willing to fight him, so it’s not a good tradeoff for the team.Â

Only if they decide that Ovi will fight instead

Jamie Benn still fights plenty as a captain. I would expect Tom to still fight to defend his guys as a captain.
The difference is, Jamie Benn goes down in one punch. Tom Wilson does not.
Look at Staal and Tkachuk yesterday. Both captains and started a fight 3 seconds in. Willy will probably always be a fighter.
Two words. Dale. Hunter.
Do you even watch hockey?
Did he even fight this past season ? Wilson matured over time and not just some enforcer anymore
