I think Berube is a bad fit for this team, and should absolutely not be brought back.
Which means I also think there's like an 80% chance he's brought back.
If Berube is back im done w this team 💯 he doesnt have a good system for the talent on this roster. Just not a fit and i wont watch another season. Ill be a homer for the lightning, my home team, which makes me sick to even say 🤮
The fact he wasn't fired within 24 hours leans towards him returning.

But to Jesse's point how does Pelley know that Treliving or Berube should have been fired when he CLEARLY has no clue about Hockey?

Every single TOR fan needs to stop spending money on ANYTHING TML related and force the ownership to care since all they care about is money!

Pelley did nothing but interfere.. and was absolutely blocking actions.
From a business perspective, there is a reason not to fire Berube. Think about it … why hasn't he been fired already; after all, the season is over. Why is he still here? Could it be the Leafs don't want to pay Berube to sit around doing nothing for 2 years. They are already doing it for 1 year to pay Treliving. And, all of this after just getting out of the requirement Babcock for all those years.
Should he be gone? Definitely. A new coach is needed but …
Berube's only cup as a coach was as an "Interim Coach". with the Blues. Short window, miracle season. Management, Berube and the players had nothing to lose, played their asses off and somehow went from last to Lord Stanley's Cup. Much like a "One Hit Wonder" song, Berube is done. Wrong Coach, Wrong Team. The lack of success stems from a Head Coach unwilling to adapt strategy to the strengths in the room.
To Bones’ credit, he’s not the first coach to struggle with the Jackets. At some point it’s on the players.
pelley will hire the gm he wants that gm will do what pelley wants so by pelley saying the next gm will decide berube's fate you can bank on berube being back next season this team is boned

I don’t understand how we want the coach fired because the system is terrible but we say we have talent that can get us back to the playoffs. We should have fired the coach and kept the GM

I don’t know how you could hire a guy who was a goon in the nhl, who fluked his way to winning a cup, and has made Matthew’s look terrible and think, ya let’s bring that guy back.
what a bunch of idiots, this style of hockey that they are saying won't work. worked fine last year to win the Atlantic but all of a sudden they can't play this way. only ones that can't play are players that are coddled too much.

Berube is A) not the right fit for this team, and you could argue he never was from the moment they hired him, and B) likely to play a style that suits an NHL that no longer exists. That's the problem with having about 40 old suits rotating chairs as head coach every year; they stick around so long that the modern game passes them by.
I think Berube will stay on for a few months before he either gets the team going again or is fired for more of the same disaster.
Such a bunch of entitled, pompous, and clueless clowns acting as if their opinions mean anything. The last thing this team needs is people as clueless as you guys are about the sport calling the shots.

Still waiting from these sports podcasts for one of you to tell me a your opinion who you would think would do a better job. It isn't Craig Berube's fault.. it's the team. So please someone out there tell me who would and could the least get that could go behind that bench and motivate this team to win?. Can't think of anyone offhand myself.
The Berube years are just a repeat of the Carlyle years. An old school and out of touch coach whose teams never have the puck and get outshot every night. By every defensive metric this team is garbage and regressed under Berube. The players arent THIS bad entirely. Guaranteed they'd do even better by playing under a different coach. If Berube is back, this team is doomed and will have learned nothing. There will be no reason to watch. Berube cannot come back.
if they lose Mathews and keep the coach ,,,time to move this team to Alaska and boycott the team
It’s obvious the players aren’t listening to him. They probably would prefer a different voice, not outdated, maybe younger coach. Berube has the inability to inspire these guys it seems or they would “go thru the wall for him” so to speak. Honestly, I worry about a guy like Knies, who had decent point production but I thought he was SOFT all season. Just lacked passion & pushback on most nights. They say it was because of his knee injury he couldn’t go full on,
I don’t quite buy it because even before the injury, he was criticized for not being more “engaged” especially with his size. Sometimes he’s like a mild mannered boy scout out there, following rules a bit too much. Or he’s really not interested in being that kind of player. That’s a bummer. If Berube can’t get that out of him & most of the other players (intensity) …Someone needs to. Because l’il Easton Cowan has way more toughness & heart than big 6’3 Knies. That irks me.
About time coaches were let off the hook. Players need to eat it.
Leafs will win the Cup next year with Berube.
