But Rutherford said that the culture was the best locker room culture he’s ever seen. I was also told that reporters like Elliotte Friedman were making things up about the Canucks.
maskedkiller215
So we just gonna assume it was JT, QH, Kane?
MaverickGH
Canucks on how the Canucks? Which Canucks are talking about the Canucks?
curtis5713
Based on this stuff and the post deadline changes it sure seems like the pals who all got extensions for operation keep Quinn might have been the culprits
MaximumSamage
Miller (Regina), Hughes (Karen), and Garland (Gretchen)?

We all knew this was true when (and arguably well before) Allvin gave that terribly tone-deaf answer during the post-Hughes trade media availability.

GARLAND WAS A PROBLEM
ThelongNameNo1has
Maybe should have listened to Jason Dickinsons complaints about team back when we traded him.

Am I alone here with this position but, I don’t care? Like, look.. as a fan, I care about this team, obviously, but that kinda stops at all the drama and drip-feed rumors and locker room bullshit – its not really my business, nor do I care for it to be.
This isn’t desperate housewives.
Figure your shit out and lets get it going, show up for the crest and play some fuckin hockey. Its the NHL for christ sake. Cut this sissy shit out and get in players that can at least be mature, and bring in leadership, coaching staff that are professional and lets get the fuck on with it.
The less that the media has to dissect this type of nonsense the better.
Solar-Soldier-7914
I will die on the hill that the 2020 off-season fumble is what killed this core. Lost a ton of veteran and leadership that could’ve kept this room in tact. Most notably Tanev and Markstrom then the following off-season we lost Edler and Sutter due to long-term COVID. The room was not the same since.
Spare_Entrance_9389
CrazyP should be CEO of Team Culture. We bang drums, and then we bang your mom. Canucks sign Corey Perry in unrelated news.

Did Petey try to make fetch happen? But Miller was like nah???

Peterson shows up in terrible shape – “get your shit together” – don’t bully me!

Mean Girls but it’s Canucks players? Boy howdy…you’d think they would be above high school bickering….

The culture has been trash for nearly a decade.
As much of a tool as Brendan Leipsic was—maybe more attention should’ve been paid to how terrible things were even back then.
Bad cultures often aren’t just the result of a few bad apples. Its rot can spread across generations of players.

I want to cheer for a team full of warriors. Players that will bang, crash, and bleed for each other. If there are players on a team that get offended for being picked on mean girls style, I don’t want them on my team. I don’t want to cheer for that kind of player.
Men hold each other accountable and teasing, chiding, and provoking are character testing rituals. If you can’t take being held accountable in a group of warriors because your feelings get hurt, I can’t trust you to take the real heat during a game when we’re expected to leave it all on the ice for each other.

My guess is Miller/Garland driving it. Hughes is probably on the spectrum (not meaning this in an insulting way) and should not have been Captain. I don’t think the guy has the aura and/or social skills for the role, assuming he followed along (or did not control the behavior) and participated out of feeling a rush out of being included like most introverts running along with an extrovert (similar to his actions after the U.S Olympic Gold win).
What could have been still haunts me – but we’re on a new path now and it seems like the negativity has been shed at least. Culture is really important, low morale effects anyone at any job.

These guys have to be the softest people alive.
Checked-Out
Didn’t everyone call Garland a little elf and Hughes huggy bear. Neither of those guys look like the type to bully people. They look more likely to be bullied for their appearance. I know Hughes became a famous all star be he wasn’t always famous and he still looked like that so I doubt his personalty developed much of a bully personality 😆. Miller on the other hand looks like he could be a bit of a reletentless intimidating dickhead if he doesn’t like you and I could totally see that dynamic between him and Pettersson.

MAGA americans not treating others respectfully, colour me shocked lol
UnsubstantialGoat
Just pick the players who would think « Born in the USA » would be a good victory song and those are your guys.
DuffmanStillRocks
That’s just shitty to hear, I’m extremely disappointed in management for not putting an end to shit like that. If that’s how you plan to improve your teammates you can GTFO.

Fitting that vancouvers team would have a cliquey, culture problem

All I know is that I’m beginning to see an actual positive culture change with the emergence of Willander and his gang.
raistlin1022
glad we got rid of this MAGA culture one and for all. I dont need to know exactly who it was, just that now Rutherford is comfortable to say it out loud, I believe its been rooted out. and if you look at who has been traded, its pretty obvious what the issue is.

Interesting. JR initially reported that we had a country club in the locker room. I guess his solution was to turn the country club into a mean girls club lol.

How fucking embarrassing, honestly. « Mean girls dynamic » among a bunch of professional hockey players in their 20s and 30s. Pathetic behaviour by all responsible. This past 2-3 years of Canucks teams has been the most unlikeable group I’ve followed over two decades.

No surprise, as the culture in the Canucks dressing room was probably no different that the corporate culture in Canucks Sports & Entertainment, as well as Aquilini’s various other companies.

First of I have been meaning to say this for a while.
Congrats to Halford and Brough for asking the hard questions and in my mind tearing the bandaid off this culture issue.
It definitely has been going on for a while.
The media guys know whats going on and cannot disclose some of what they see or hear because it would be the end of them. I do think these guys had the testicular fortitude to do so.
Hopefully more info comes out so there is clarity and at the same accountability within the room.
I do think, as someone mentioned earlier, that players set standards of what is expected. NHL players have always policed their rooms internally. Thats how it always is. Always has been.
But good good leadership does not mean bullying, isolating or any other BS that is going on. That is not acceptable.
At the same time to play devils advocate, why do they feel the need to do? Are they idiots? In this case probably. But is there a reason why it came to that? Is there a flip side to the coin? Time will tell if more info comes out.
They need to all be on the same page. They need respect for each other and pulling in the same direction. All in. All together.
This group seems to be heading that way. Hopefully it keeps going.
