Giving Levshunov, Rinzel and Vlasic all the same C grade feels like a cop-out
These rankings are all stats based which takes away context. For example, the article references icings committed by Crevier and Vlasic:
« It’s not surprising that Crevier was on the ice 129 times the Blackhawks committed icing this season and Vlasic was on the ice for 142, »
Icing isnt only a defensive infraction. Players must get open. They must create space. In the D zone, when wings fail to cover the defensive pair must collapse forcing a likely icing situation to clear the zone. Dumb of the Athletic to mention this stat line but they got to write something….
Most ratings seemed accurate. I would have given Vlasic a C+ at worst, B- at best. I know this sub loves Levshunov but I would have rated him C-. It’s not the stats. It’s his hockey IQ. As someone that goes to every game and watches from 5 rows up, it’s clear he doesn’t understand hockey at an NHL level. He need(s/ed) development at the NCAA or AHL level. As a Hawks fan, I want to be wrong and see him perform well.
