I would give the Dobson trade an A. Then the Palat & Soucy trades a D. Schenn trade, a D as well, only because of what Darche gave up to get him. Totally ridiculous.
Drouin signing gets an F, Shabanov signing, unfortunately get a D.
The Dobson grade is a F. Heineman is at best a 3rd liner on this current team but a 4th liner on a contender. Eklund you are looking at him through the lens of a fan and not a GM. He is small.
Dobson is an elite RHS YOUNG puck moving d-man. He would have contributed mins so Schaefer did not get tired as the season wore on. Dobson had 70pts on this team and he is just getting to his prime now.
This trade tree will look almost ((not quite) as bad the Toews trade.
You don’t give up a guy like Dobson to sign a positional,y unsound Romanov.
Mitchell a B for the Schenn trade? what glue are you on up north? This is a terrible trade and you’re losing credibility as a true voice on valuation.
Slow day guys, answer F all lame decisions
You aren’t too low Matt, the Schenn trade is a straight up F based on the pieces we had to give up, the term, the AAV, the age, the defensive liability, etc etc. Atrocious atrocious trade, and I really hope Darche learned from his mistake because if he keeps going down this path….. things can go downhill VERY fast.
Schenn trade is a C, the others are all D. Schenn will stick up for his teammates and it’s obvious by some comments that some have lived in a glass bubble their lives !
Palat trade earns a P…….for puke. What a dumbarse move. Darche making that trade has me worrying about the future.
I thought the Schenn move was poor, but I agree with Mitch. It worked out OK……so far. The next 2 years at $6.5 mil could make this one a disaster. If he can mentor Calum with FO's and using the body, it might work out.
No matter how we slice it, Darche has a bunch of contracts to offload. Palat, Varly, Engvall, Duclair, Shabanov?
Palms will be back. It's hard to see where Lee fits in. We also need a goalie. 2 knee replacements isn't going to work at Varlys age.
Mitch is 100% right. Schenn trade is an incomplete, right now a B. People seem to forget Schenn was NOT brought in to make the playoffs. He was brought in FOR the playoffs. The rest of the team sh*t the bed down the stretch. He was productive, showed grit, took Ritchie under his wing. Most of these amateur GMs would build a team of twenty 20 year olds. You need some vets to show the kids the way. Ask me if I'd rather have a Schenn or Lee lead my team the answer is clear. The first round pick they gave up will most likely be very late in the first and also got rid of Drouin. Would you rather have given up Eiserman, Eklund or Aitcheson for a Kyrou (that we have no idea if he'd waive his NTC)? Palat was also brought in FOR the playoffs. The new narrative is now the trade deadline deals were to help this team make the playoffs. Let's ask Horvat what happened post Olympics. MIA
Sounds like Barzy may be gone
Soucy D. Barely better than Mayfield. Palat Big fat F. Gave up draft picks for a player that is a twin to Tysp and worse contract. Schenn B. Thought he played well and a good fit. Dobson dump B. Got future younguns and got rid of a player that didn't want to be here.
The Dobson trade was an A considering how much he wanted in salary. The Soucey trade was a C. They needed a defenseman with experience, didn’t give up too much and we are not obligated to pay the guy anymore. The Palat trade is an F-. It may go down as Darche’s worst move in his career. You just can’t justify that move in any way. The Schenn trade is a C- considering the fact we have 2 more years of his contract and his age. And we gave up a 1st rounder too! I change my mind. Schenn was a D!
Palat F-. Should have gotten a 2nd rounder/ C+ Prospect also!
Did everybody forget with the Palat trade? We got those picks?
It’s difficult to imagine how the Dobson trade is not an A+. On our timeline, realistically 2 years from contending at best, who would rather have straight up long term Dobson or Eklund? (Eklund) Aitchison? (Push) plus you got at least a third liner with flair as a sweetener.
Ask it another way, even being a contender now, would the Habs still make that trade knowing those guys would be available? You have to doubt it…
Zero change for next year. Dont forget you have Palms and Engvall under contract as well. Maybe they let Lee walk, if not, look forward for another old, slow product next year.
Im terrified to see what darche does for next year
Dobson trade was an A- because he didn't want to return to the Islanders and Darche added Heineman who is an exciting player who put some goals up on the scoreboard and the 2 1st round picks completely fit into the "we are going to build through youth" plan and made Darche look like a magician. Darche then went on to have a very strong draft picking Schaefer (no comments need to me made) along with Eklund (who looked good in Bridgeport and during his NHL debut) and Aitcheson is supposed to be an excellent physical defenseman. The Islanders then go on to overachieve under Patrick Roy and everyone in Islander-land is patting themselves on the back thinking Darche is a master NHL deal maker until he says at the trade deadline, "WTF…let's make a playoff run!" and then the Islanders shit the bed.
Soucy trade – D-.
Palat trade – F. ($6M for another year for a old veteran has been who did nothing for the Islanders.)
Schenn trade – F. (he added someone else's overpaid veteran contract rather than just saying "WTH i'll just overpay and at least retain our Captain Anders Lee for another season or 2.")
Patrick Roy firing – F-, (should have waited until the off-season).
DeBoer hiring – C+, (for now…possibility of an F or a A+ time will tell).
Darche better think long and hard this off-season because there are no more coaches to use as scapegoats and nobody wants to hear "this is Lou's team" any longer…
