  1. Hey guys! I wasn’t planning on watching the game tonight but with Eklund’s debut and Schaefer chasing a record I had to. I’m optimistic for the future of the islanders.

  2. Trying to force the 48 goal made the team predictable and easy to defend against. Also caused a lot of missed opportunities.

  3. ISLE OF MISERY. pouty, 1-3. pathetic ass isle offense only scores 2 g's last three home games.
    -pathetic stats…
-not one ppg player, 13 led with 71 pts.
    -only one 30 g scorer, 14.
    -only one winger 51 hit 20 g's.
-18 year old rookie d man was second in g's, a, pts. scored more g's than every isle winger.
    -gf-24th. pp-30th.
-only bright spots were pk improving from 31 to 9. and 30's seven shut outs.
sugar coat isle season anyway you want to. it was a miscalculated failure. darche should have used this season subtracting for the future, now a season was wasted and for what? just to get older not better. or to get what looks like 13th pick when another lottery/top 5 pick was needed.
hopefully that was the last of 27 and 4. now 77 wants to re-up. 81 did nothing. dump 11. 21 will probably look 100 coming off of knee surgery. and ufa sucks this off-season. not like isles would fetch a big fish ufa anyway. or a big scorer. darche needs to id that big hole on isles and fix it. oh well i don't think this organization wants to win. the iffy darche moves point to that. and as long as that fkn louzer of a baffoon lurks behind the curtain nothing will change. ISLE OF MISERY indeed.

  4. Watch videos of Eklund and was impressed..he looks slight, and must be precise or he is easy knocked down, but on that goal he protects the puck along the wall, he is used to playing against men so I guess he will be a starter next season. Also Bussi for the Canes is from Long Island. Amazing how many players are now from the island in the NHL. Three players with 19 goals that tells you about this team. Just not good enough. I would be surprised if Lee and Casey don’t retire? This team is 4-5 years away from being able to compete for the Cup…assuming they don’t make dumb moves. One more thing, their farm teams are so much better than they were last year, its impressive.

  5. The final "game" was nothing more than a glorified scrimmage. The sole focus was very obvious to get Matthew Schaefer the record breaking goal and sadly they fell short. The two bright spots were however very encouraging, the play of Callum Ritchie and Victor Eklund, both of whom have demonstrated in this game that in the years to come they will both become very good NHL players. Ritchie and Eklund both need more physical development as does Matthew Schaefer but there should be no problems in that aspect. I found the pre game comments of Peter DeBoer rather enlightening with regards to Anders Lee and some of the older players on the team, he seemed to intimate that the Islander organization will be making an effort to help players transition to life AFTER hockey. Anders Lee and Casey Cizikas have both made great contributions to the Islanders organization and deserve a great deal of recognition but their time as NHL players has come to an end. Offering a new contract to Anders Lee would be the height of stupidity, it has been painfully obvious this season that Anders legs are gone, when you take into account his original draft position Anders Lee has built a remarkable career and he belongs in the Islander hall of fame, but it is time to hang up the skates.

  6. Why this team will NEVER win another Cup. One, they do not sign Free Agents, Two, they scout poorly, Three, for some reason every player they draft think they are set for stardom, Four, Poor ownership, This lame formula regarding vets,,, HHeeLLoo it does not work.. This year we had a 19 year old who plays with the Sharks who is one year away from being the best in the game…When was the last time we said that about any Islander? As far as this guy matt, you fans are in love with him, but you never talk about how poor he is on defense, but he is going to win rookie of the year, ,,Awards are meaningless…In MLB a guy named Jerome Walton won ROY, second year M.I.A. Rafael Palmeiro won a Gold Glove for playing 30 something games, the rest he was a DH…He deserves a Gold Glove? Trevor Story was really good in his first 3 months, made All star game, after that, M.I.A. Good luck rooting for this lost franchise..

  7. Absolutely terrible trade for palat. He is useless overpaid garbage. Duclair sucks. Mayfield sucks. This team is filled with 3rd liners with NTCs. The roster is a joke. Darch did well with the Dobson trade but him buying into this roster was a big mistake. They are fucked. Next year will not be much different.

  8. Hopefully the GM gets rid of the Terrible Contracts and Aged out players, Bring the Young Players on to the Ice !!! Gil thank so much for Locked On Islanders Your irreplaceable Every one have a Great Summer 🧡LGI💙

  9. Gm Gil. The team finished poorly with a final uninspired effort. Announcers Thomas Hickey and Cal Clutterbuck finally voiced what we've been saying all along that 'something' must change because it isn't the coaches given the coaching turnover. We saw what we usually saw … odd man rushes. one goal for. players caught up ice. So, all signs point to more of the same because, frankly, the team is still stuck with a lot of bad contracts across older and low producing players. I don't have a lot of hope for the next couple of seasons.

  10. Thank you, gil for another year of coverage . Love waking up the morning after a game and tuning in. It was a great year all in all. the kid brought back respectability. Sherokin stood on his head. We know the problems we had. We don't have to go through that again. Between the power play and injuries. But all, in all very entertaining, I know it's a shame to get that close and not make it, but compare it to what we thought was gonna happen it was a ray of sunshine. I just want to address Anders Lee. I've heard so much trash talking about this guy, and it's really disheartening, because I think he was a great captain for 8 years, did everything he was asked to do kept his team in it, led by example. Every time there was a big game, he stepped up. He had a fantastic year. But all I hear is negative. I really don't get it. I too in the past were critical of him, but he proved to me his worth. I think he's a net front presence. I think he's a corner specialist. So if you're gonna get rid of em, you better replace em, and that goes for Paguer. also. Thanks again, Gil. Have a great summer. Let's go Mets!

  11. Big deal horvat you miss more shots than you score i would like to know what was there problem was the last 12 games nobody tuns that bad for a reason .

  12. Islanders under DeBoer were more positionally sound. However the flip side of the same coin is that we couldn't even score 1 goal. DeBoer is a coach who is both very rigid and dependent on his system . His unwillingness to make changes to his system is one reason why Dallas fired him. The idea he will make all these changes to system is delusional. The fear is we see more aging and declining veterans that can be plugged in and play his system. Last point this team didn't seem particularly motivated or emotionally prepared under DeBoer.

  13. did you see on carolinas 2nd goal, eklund (a forward) was battling an opposing player right in front of the crease. bravo! finally someone not standing around doing nothing. this left isle goalie rittich to concentrate on making the save on jankowski, but ofcourse rittich when down on his knees and jankowski scored easily by shooting the puck up high over rittich shoulder. i must of missed the chapter in the fictitious book called "the fundamentals of ice hockey goaltending" where it says to go down to your knees when an opposing player shoots the puck at you. i saw alot of islander chances in this game, but lame shots on goal which I could have stopped…and i am a 65 yr old former street hockey goaltender (you know, the orange mylec ball). please lets say goodbye to most or all of these players: cizikas (age 35), lee (35), palat (35), mayfield (33), pelech(31), pulock (31), maclean (32), soucy (31). i'd keep schenn (34) because of his experience, and he can fight when needed. i'd keep palmieri (35) for another year because before his injury, he was popping in some goals by shooting the puck high over the opposing goalies (they were on their knees also). i'd consider trading barzal, even though he led the team in assists and points. probably led the team in giveaways also, and probably led the team in being benched for lazy play. they can get a good return for barzal. i always thought he was overrated – he's a good player but not great. these players they can do whatever they want with: boqvist, duclair, shabanov. boqvist is only 25, but needs to improve so i'd give him a chance to prove he can be a better d-man. sorokin is our #1 goalie. i have no answer on who should be #2. unless there is another decent back-up goalie looking for work, then rittich (33) will probably be back for another year, although i am curious to see if varlamov (37) can still play now that he is almost healthy. i look forward to the off-season changes, and cant wait till september training camp. i also look forward to watching the upcoming playoffs with no stress. wouldnt mind seeing buffalo finally win a cup. a buffalo vs colorado final could be interesting.

  14. Good afternoon, Gil. How are you? The Islanders and the 🌀 played a cautious game. Bo Horvat finally got his 30th career goal. Victor Eklund made his NHL debut, and he's got some grit. Hero, Bo Horvat for his milestone goal, and Victor Eklund for his NHL debut. The Islanders need to work on the PP, and they need to work on their defense, too. Anders Lee wants to stay, and I hope he does. I also hope Peter DeBoer can teach them how not to play like Dracula whenever they have a matinee lol. Hear from you later, Gil, but before I go, I compared Peter DeBoer to Tom Hagen from The Godfather. He has a college education with a law degree, which makes him a true Consigleri. Also, today is a sad day in Islander history. 4 years ago tonight, Mike Bossy the purest goal scorer the NHL will ever see, passed away 4 years ago. HE WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED R.I.P., BOSS 1957-2022. He was also a true gentleman of the game. Now, LGI 🏒🔵🟠

  15. Bo getting 300 is about all that managed as Bussi shows his 31 Wins better than all the over paid vezina goalies. Losing was bad as Shaefer could not get a Goal to get his record but Leetch had a lot better assist ability. Basically Dobson must have been best passer on team to get 60 Assists when had 70 points. As that more than all the Defense combined it seems. Maybe Deangelo had less than half that assist total. Heineken was telling over 20 Goals but less than 10 assists. PP that has nobody able to pass well would not score easy to defend. I was thinking of Soccer can tell when Italy is not getting good touches. So rig game to lose to Bosnia with bogus red card. If that was Islanders Italy would score at will short handed hehe
