Cannot be overstated how much the in game presentation team bungled that and contributed to people thinking the game was over. Don’t keep playing the winning song/announce the goal/acting like we won when nothing was official yet. Took like three minutes to say the goal was under review.
I always stick around for the stars of the game, but feels like people did the same in the 4OT game a few years ago. The arena playing the win song and yelling goal is a pretty clear sign for people to head for the doors late on a Monday night.
I was in my car, turned on the radio to hear Tripp saying they were reviewing the goal. I screamed, I’m so mad I missed it
I usually hang around for the stars anyway, but I understand why a lot of people left. I had already claimed my free chick fil a sandwich before I looked up at the media folks behind me freaking out and knew we were in for some more hockey
ALWAYS keep your eye on the refs. If they don’t leave the ice, you shouldn’t leave the arena.
SiriusXM NHL radio commentators are raking Canes fans over the coals on this.
The decent thing to do would have been to let the fans back in.
Not at all. I was happy to be back at home where I was able to have a couple more drinks to finish out the game.
I feel like this is such a rare scenario that the protocols for it probably haven’t come up before in terms of letting people back in, announcing goal/canes win, ect.
