As odd as it seems that the Habs didn’t sign him, I’m honestly not surprised. The interesting thing is, he didn’t do much in his early 20’s, so he was nothing like the player he is today. As good as Hagel is now, especially playing with Point and Kuch, it wasn’t until they were their mid to late 20’s that they all became really good. Plus, they didn’t play together in their early 20’s either.
In contrast, the young Habs 1st line is playing together and they’re in their early to mid 20’s. They will keep improving and there is a solid chance that in a 1-3 years they will become a better line than Tampa’s.
