Nylander will NEVER be a leader and don't kid yourself that he was embarrassed about how the season went because he doesn't care about anything other than Willy. He is the softest, laziest, most selfish player on the entire roster. He was like that since he joined the league and he will be like that when he retires. He's an amazing offensive talent – and I would trade him tomorrow for a high-end defenseman and a box of pucks.

I'm not sure why the Leafs are not considering Brandon Pridham more, they've literally developed this guy under several GM's, why not give your own AGM a chance, especially if they bring Mike Gillis in as POHO.

Sundin is just not the serious hire. So I expect it.
And saying there is some importance that the person has played for the Leafs? The doomed future is deserved.
Next GM should have a no no-trade policy. Sure that might limit some players wanting to sign in Toronto, but if there's a clear message sent across the franchise that if you don't perform you're getting moved sets a standard of expectation. I think you'd get the right kind of players with the message – instead of the wrong type. They could have a limited no trade, but don't close that option – it just attracts the wrong kind of passengers.

You must remember Gilmore had Andrechuck 54 goals and Clark 30 goals on his wings. Sundin had 2 20 goal scorers on his wings

When Nylander held out for a new contract, he should have been dealt. That was the first sign these guys aren't capable of competing with the best.

There were many bad moves but gotta give credit to the good ones.
Your forgetting about 93 & 94 leafs were a bit better than the sundin’s leafs.
I would be surprised if MLSE will allow the new management to move out any recalcitrant players. They wouldn't let Tre.
I am obviously not a Leafs fan but I do like the idea of Sundin being a part of their organization. I have huge respect for Sundin, he was a great player. I do find it strange that there aren't many ex-Leafs players involved with the team. I look at Boston or Montreal (because I am familiar the most with those two) and they have always had former players around the current team. Official or unofficial members of the organization they've always been former players to pass on what it means to be a part of that team. I think the Leafs need to have former players around to bring the fire and drive back to that organization.

34 and 88 and maybe others quit on their coach at the pivotal points of the season. That says it all.

Truth is it doesn’t matter at this point who is the next GM, the roster is what it is and IS the problem. The greatest coach and gm together couldn’t help this group. Not caring about losing yes is one thing but you can see it’s just not caring all around. Zero grit will always look like this, they don’t even have a little they have NONE. Softest group in the league by far. The mentality is a killer let alone treating guys who are AHL calibre players and paying/treating them with top line minutes and a letter on their crest IE Reilly, is insane. He’s not a top D anywhere in this league yet Toronto value him the way they do. Worst leafs team in a long time.
Looks like the Bruins Evan Gold who helped Bruins stick to the Leafs over the years makes sense.

It's not the players, it's the management. They (1) have horrible asset management, and (2) too many gaps in depth and team dynamics, and (3) the coaching choices clearly did not make a difference.
The Kyle Dubas exit should have been a warning to ownership.
Winning teams know it … everyone surrounding the Leafs, including guys like you trying to make a living off them don't. 1 day the problem is Willie, 1 day the problem is Matthews, 1 day the problem is Reiley, and some times its even JT… All wrong full stop. You have your stars but so painfully lack the support players needed. You need a team with toughness .. and not 9 Revos on the team, but guys that make you keep your head up.. They will open the ice for the stars and as we have seen with some Panther players like Tkachuk or Bennett who aren't the most skilled players in the league they open the ice when they on on it….Opens for them, opens for the stars and lets every other team know the price will be collected if you hit a star…. Toronto and Toronto followers want everyone one of thier players to the game winner every night…
I have wanted Mathews traded for almost 5 years now…(providing the returns are great). The best question was weather Mathews would have clobbered someone if his teammate was Gudased…we all know the answer…SO…you'll get the same wasted results next year and after until he leaves for a first round pick.
