Sorry, but we cannot trust our scout group. Look at all the projects they bought in that all turned useless. And look at their history when they try to be smart by drafting position. They made us draft Juolevi instead of Matthew Tkachuk, Virtanen over Nylander, etc.
This draft they should just pick the best players available. Don't try to be "smart" by drafting the rank #13 guy at #3.
If they really want Malhotra, sure but they got to trade down for an extra pick. Then grab the two Ruck twins also.
Exception? Just be sure to skip Chase Reid, all problems solved. Then you don't even see any Americans for a long time down the draft anyways. With so many other choices, why would we go out of our way to get Chase Reid? This is a non issue.
Of course not every American hates playing for Canadian teams. But a significant % of them do. Why take extra risk?
By the time you get to the 3rd or even the 2nd round, this race issue isn't as important, because beggars can't be choosers. Most average player just want to stay in the league. But those top 20 1st round picks, I would avoid American players.
As I see this draft it’s GM #1. Then @2 take Reid. @3 take Reid or Stenberg if Reid is gone. I think the Rucks may fall to the Minnesota draft choice( ~24)and Vancouver’s first second round pick (33).
I wont watch them again
Caleb Malhotra is barely a top10 pick in any other draft.
Caleb at 3 would be amazing
McKenna
Stenberg
Reid
Malholtra
Stenberg isn’t even the best Swedish prospect in the draft
Aiming low has worked so well for the redwings
you have to take Reid if they drop to 3rd then maybe put something together to trade up for Malhotra.
it's the Canucks they will mess this up one way or another…
You take the best player available regardless of positional need.
It's a moot point anyway. Vancouver will be picking third. There is no way Bettman is going to allow Vancouver to keep their position.
You take the best player. You draft a Future Captain. You do not draft for the position. That being said id prolly take Malhotra if i was Aquaweenie… He did just torch his families restaurant in Yaletown to buyout EP40… lol If he is that player you take him. Sounds like a recipe for disaster but if they do it, you make a deal and trade down in the draft order. If we pick 2nd you negotiate with the 3rd place pick and so on. grab those twins while you are at it!
Caleb is rated between 5th to 10th overall and not 2nd in NHL scouting.
Malhotra is going to amazing, I’m glad these arm chair quarterbacks are not in charge.
This report from Marek is as speculative as speculation can get. If these insiders haven't gotten any actual insider information (teams don't spill info on their draft plans for obvious reasons) then they have to fill their pocasts with… something. 🙄
Always pick the best player available…!
It doesn’t matter the Canucks gonna screw it up anyways
Canucks better not draft Malhotra 2nd over all what the Canucks need is elite skill, teams win with elite skilled players, they don't win or go far with solid players. Elite star type prospects is what you look for at 2nd over all not a "solid" player which you can get in the second or third round. Stenberg is going to be at least a point a game player – a star, Malhotra is going to be maybe a solid second liner. I am sick and tired of this franchise loading up on 2nd and 3rd line players. I still shake my head when I remember Benning picking Olli Juolevi 4th over all ahead of Matt Tkachuk who I thought was the obvious pick as a highly skilled, good shot, great in the crease area, and abrasive that would translate well in the play offs and he was also ranked ahead of Juolevi. OMG you don't draft position over skill, you just don't and that is what drafting Mahotra 2nd OL would be and maybe even at 3rd OL as well before this yr he had never even dominated his junior leagues. Drafting Maholtra 2nd over all ahead of Stenberg will prove to be big mistake
Caleb Msltotra could grow into a centre Canadian Matt Tkachuck
Just glad there's no chance they'll draft a Finish defenseman.
The Canucks will end up picking the wrong guy whether they pick 1,2,or 3
