YES isles should dump the old guys. NO isles wont dump the old guys. 27, 4-bye bye. should buy out 53. dump 11 anyway possible, 81 waste of roster spot. mid 30's 21 should look slow as shit coming off of knee surgery. and no need for both 33 34 year old c's 44 and 10. move one out. plus isles still have flatfoot 33 year old 24 for like 5 more years.
just a poorly constructed roster of old guys, immovable guys, and not enough elite, young talent. one season of subtraction wasted and for what? to make isles nhl's fourth oldest team.
Gil, we know the team is already signed for next season.
Heinny,Bo,barzy
Schenn,Ritchie,palms
Duclair,jgp,holmstrom
Pallet,Casey,engvall
Ex: Maclean ,shabby-rfa
Is there enough money for the captain?
Schaefer,pulock
Pelech,Romanov
Mayfield
Boqvist:rfa
Tony D should be back he’s been our best defenseman since he’s joined the club.
No room for the kids. Lou just said a year or two in the ahl on another podcast Sunday night. lol
2/3 of the team should be under 28. Pelech and Pulock are done. It happens
Darche knew this team had bad contracts left by Lou. Then Darche goes and shoot’s himself in the foot with Palatt. Schen still has some value but Darche certainly overpaid. Soucy will walk and his money goes to the penalty The Islanders will be paying for going over the cap with Schaefer’s bonus! Darche knew Schaefer hit his bonus milestones which added like 3.5 million! That goes against our cap next year. Bad on Darche! Palatt was a big mistake and next to impossible to rid of. Lee should be let go. Trade Palms back to The Devils or anyone. Duke trade. Heck we can go down the line but fact is no team wants old players who don’t produce. Mayfield n Engvall omg! How to dump? Pelech or Romy? Who goes? Islanders have next to zero physicality and would all be dead if the were to make the playoffs. If Darche dumps Barzal for EP40 we are in Trouble! Then my confidence in Darche will be gone! Look at the Flyers playing youth and excelling! How will Darche dig himself out of this hole? It won’t be easy. Can’t expect much next year. Just that a more structured system helps the team.
This franchise is screwed for the next couple years.
its not just about age ..its about old and slow..its about old and not skilled..its about old and soft…vegas , Colorado, wild and kings all higher average age…mclean and gatbomb are young…theyre not gonna take us anywhere
I told you guys trade everyone above age 33 for young draft picks they ain't going nowhere
Its turning into a young man’s league. The Isles are going to be left behind unless they change course.
Who is really driving this Ship? Seeing photos of Darche, Lou and associates at the Bridgeport game obviously has to make fans wonder who is truly driving this ship? Darche stuck in the corner on the phone with Lou at his side. Apparently Lou is still likely working and getting paid by The Islanders. When Darche says it will take 2 years to get out of some of these contracts does that include Lou and his obvious influence? Palms contract? On Lou obviously 🙄 Romy contract also has Lou written all over it 😠. Is Darche in total control of this team? How can true change be made if Lou still has a major influence on ownership and Darche? I want to hear from the horses 🐴 mouth! It will never happen but was there major influence on Darche to deal for Soucy? Palatt? Schen? Lou’s control might truly end after next season and is this what Darche is saying that it will take 2 years to unwind bad contracts? It makes me wonder as it would all fans. Did the Owners and Lou have major influence on Darche for those late season deals?
Totally disagree with Pelech being back. He is GONE this summer, bet on it.
Over the next 2 – 3 years the Islanders will have very little cap flexibility and too many older players with either full or Partial NTC and not enough trade assets to do a reset. Once we do get cap flexibility we can't buy our way out of this problem bc top free agents don't want to live on Long Island. Yes we can move on from Lee and Soucy and Shabanov and buy out Mayfield and perhaps attach a pick to Duclair to trade him. However the resulting changes will be nothing more than marginal improvement to this team. Seems like the plan is hope Eklund and Eiserman become stars. Eklund profiles to be a 2nd line forward and Most but not all scouts profile Eiserman to be a 3rd line forward. But therein lies the rub. You don't win in the NHL with a collection of 2nd line and 3rd line and 4th line forwards. You need 1st line forwards. At the very least 1C. Why? 1C is the type of player who makes everyone around him better. He elevates the play of his linemates. As much I like Bo and Barzal that's not their DNA. That's why I advocated for Elias Petterson and Brock Boesner. That would be a reset and change the DNA of the team. Petterson could be the teams 1st true 1C since JT
Darche tried to sneak into the playoffs by adding veterans (old legs), but it backfired badly. I didn’t support those moves at the time because, like you Gil, I’ve been wanting a younger and faster team. I’m ready to move on from as many of old legs as we can. LGI
What are the realistic options? I agree it has been time to move away from some guys BUT…Saying move on is simple, but exactly who and how is the issue… As far as the older guys…Lee is the only guy I have any emotional attachment to, and I still believe its time…give him a job with the organization.. but everyone else? You broke down the no trades clauses, etc..not ideal, but even if there is not alot of trade value, is there value in the idea of addition by subtraction? Maybe get some less skilled but gritty guys back, or take a shot on a player, or just bite the bullet and buy out?
We have too many Centers, especially if DeBoer wants to move Ritchie back there next season. I would look to move Pageau this summer in a deal paired with Pelech. Both guys are still very serviceable to a team looking to add veteran presence and they both have term which makes it more desirable to trade for them.
How did we become a older team after Lou last year it’s unreal
Gil have you ever seen a team that has like 6 guys u would want to buyout like isles do before?
Hi Gil .bac from vacay . Lee originally should've been paid 3 or 4 mill but he had a 40 goal season thanks to Tavares and barzal so lou being stupid over paid him for ever so the way I see it he owes the team . So league minimum or 1 million but even at that price hes so finished … he gets knocked down so easily its almost sad … time to retire or move on somewhere else that needs vets .. I read an article that pelech could fetch us a good return …God help this team PLEASE
I would trade Pelech while his value is high. He is injury prone and now is the time to move him. Yes, a B is what I would give him also.
A good start would be to
Let lee walk $7 mil avail
Buyout palat and engvall per puckpedia saves $5.2 mil for 26-27(engvall will save 2 mil throughthe 29-30 season and cost 1 mil to the 2034)
Thats 12 million and 3 roster spots freed up. Use the $$ to try for a top 6 forward and insert younger players into thenroster
Just look at the veteran tesms in the po's TBL VGK CAR DAL COL MIN…this team is not even close as a long term performer in reg season or po. Yes, we beat them all in reg season but they all are stronger healthier teams. However you know mgt and the broadcasters will continue to sell this team to the fans. Time to break up the veteran clique and make this Schaefer's team or else he forces a trade like Dobson.
Ditch vets? YES! YES! YES!. Pelech hasn't been good since half way through Trotz last year. There was about a 2 week stretch early in this year when he looked like his old self, but that went away quick. I guess Pulock was playing hurt toward the end of the year, so he can stay as the 7th d man if it has to be. Not an every day guy any more.
Does anyone know why Adam Beckman hasn’t been given an opportunity or talked about much? He’s only 24 years old.
Good afternoon, Gil. How are you? Some of the veterans have got to go. Mathieu Darche knew what he was getting into when he took the job. They have to move somebody. Adam Pellach. He wasn't an elite defenseman, but he came thru. Pellach grade is B. Hear from you later, Gil, but before I go, I compared Alexi Yashin to Fredo from The Godfather upset about being stepped over for taking over the family business. He got the "⛵ ride" by being bought out of his $87.5M contract. Come playoff time, he disappeared, too. Now, LGI 🏒🔵🟠
Islanders need to learn from past mistakes like John Tavares while under contract you should've traded him while you had chance to get lots of good players in return but you waited too long and he screwed you current players that sew old under contract while you may still get something trade before it gets worse guys learn from past mistakes
Players that can be taxed trade so you get something before they get worse can't get nothing in return old age and injuries be wise Matthew is the future rebuild fast to catch up with current teams like ducks and sharks whooaded up indraft and are set for another 10 years if competing for cup
Gil seems like all the play off teams , have big strong young third and fourth line players.
Do you think that would be a good place to start , when fixing team. Plus would be cost efficient . Maybe get a Blake Coleman type to lead them
Under no uncertain circumstances should Lee be brought back. Save the money and the roster spot. We can find a much younger and much cheaper option to bring in and fill the spot. How much will it cost us to buy out Engvall, Palat, Mayfield, Duclair?
Hi Gil! The biggest issue I have with trading Barzie is ya never got him that sniper. Aside from the Pp, he barely played with Bo. Bo is not a sniper—he’s a good goal scorer—-not a sniper. Pellech? His trade value will never be higher the rest of his career after playing 82 games. Pullock? Maybe the most overated D man I’ve ever seen. 102 mph shot and can’t hit the net. Darche? He listened to Lou and screwed up big time. He caved to the Lou mystique and pressure. I was salivating at having Lee and JG off the books and nailing that free agent finally. Added age and money. Going into this off-season I’m very distrustful—-Lou still lurks. Palat is not the same player—-Schenn is on the decline—-Suzie plays like a Suzie—-go play beer league hockey. May—-just awful. I’d be happy with Eklund, Aitch and Eiserman and an enforcer—-I’ll bet that team makes it. Take care Gil.
