how do we out the owners? please!? with Aquilini here we won't get anywhere
Keep the lights on and keep the janitor – fire everyone else. The owner only waiting to cash out to amulti billionaire
Crazy thing is that Aquilini is heavily involved with development and can't/won't build a practice facility until recently…and it will still take years and years get it completed. It was Rutherford's decision to keep Miller over Horvat, resign EP40, resign Demko to that ludicrous extension with his injury history, trade Quinn Hughes.
Choosing Miller over Horvat is when they should have cleaned house. Worst mistake they made and everything compounded since
If the message is to make quick fixes and push for the playoffs ignoring all signs of distress and failure you can be assured it’s coming from ownership. Rutherford is another puppet.
What went wrong? How about everything? At least they will draft either 1st, 2nd or 3rd and they have another 1st round pick from Minnesota but they better draft well and not by position.
All roads lead back to Aquilini.
The writing was on the wall when Tocchet turned down a decent contract to go to Philadelphia. They knew before the season started that A. Quit Hughes wasn’t staying and B. They were paper thin at centre and yet they nothing to address either of those things. In my opinion, the ONLY option for ownership is to clean house: Rutherford, all the assistant GM’s, all the coaches, all of them should be let go.
ALVIN makes excuses for inaction every damn year. So glad hes gone. Now get the 100 year old out
Plan for Vancouver is for Rutherford to lead the search for his replacement. He’s going to stick around until after the draft but won’t be here next summer
You guys made the impression that Rutherford’s age is weird and’or negative. Granted, at a certain point an older person can get stuck in a rut or lose an edge but, generally speaking, experience is a good thing. Anyway, it’s all good to talk about moving on from Rutherford but to frame this around his age looks pretty bad on you guys unless your point is that he is compromised in some way by it. Frankly, found this part of the commentary a bit unbecoming.
I don't think Hughes was ever going to re-sign. When the guy you should be building the team around doesn't want to be on the team, you're gonna have a bad time.
So much this season went wrong for the Canucks, and that starts with ownership. At least the front office was open to starting a rebound as much as a last resort that ended up being. That Quinn Hughes had not been certain as to whether he would sign a new contract with the Canucks, after his existing one was to have expired, pretty much meant they were going to have to trade him if they weren’t going to let him walk for nothing in unrestricted free agency.
Rutherford said he wasn't in the negotiation talks for Quinn Hughes… that is complete and utter BS!
Canucks likely could have retained Horvat and Miller for slightly more than what EP40 is signed to which is like $11.5 mil/yr. At the time, these were fairly probable contract values》
Horvat – $5-7mil/yr
Miller – $6-8mil/yr
Rutherford has also admitted they prematurely signed Boeser, EP40, and Demko as a last chance power move to hopefully convince Quinn to resign in Vancuever, cuz he said he had known that Quinn wasn't very interested in resigning since before this season started.
I blame Francesco Aquilini.
The problems with Vancouver begin and end with ownership. They won't win until ownership changes and I don't see Francesco selling unless his health fails him. Hopefully Canucks fans have other hobbies to pursue while the Aquilinis still own the team.
Francesco's pressure. The desperate, value-burning rush back to mediocrity that always comes from his pressure. End of list.
Nothing changes unless Aquilini sells the team.
Can’t believe I got a Canucks segment AND my new favourite SNL impression in one video
Allvin shouldn't get praise or blame – it was clear from the start that he had no power at all. He was just hired to be fired if things (that Rutherford did) didn't work out. Clever move by Rutherford to ensure he has a job longer
4:26 The REAL problem is with Aqualini, Rutherford won't be around that long. I suspect that they will keep Rutherford until they hire a replacement for the GM and potential head coach.
REAL change won't happen until they find a more responsible and respectful owner of this franchise. That being said, I am hoping they put in Ryan Johnson as GM and Malhotra as the head coach. Letting them go is an absolute Vancouver way but nothing surprises me anymore with this franchise….One disappointment after another…🫣🙄😒😒😒
6:18 Way to rub Salt in our wounds guys…You really stuck it on there…😅😅😅
Just on the practice facility: the Canucks are "getting closer to securing a deal" on a site attached to Brittania community center in East Van. No official timeline, no deal in place, etc., but farther along than previous attempts. It apparently hinges on whether the community center board of directors give the OK, which in turn hinges on whether the Canucks will commit to paying for other upgraded facilities at Brittania. So that should be a slam dunk, except of course that it's the Aquilinis and they don't like the idea of the hoi polloi having nice things. We'll see.
How many players have Canucks let walk over the years? Let’s start with Markstrom and Tanev
Didn’t expect this clip to end with the intersection of three of my favorite things: hockey talk, SNL, and Dropout TV. 😂
more patience would help
Vancouver has too much pride to just admit they need to tear it down and rebuild
Dangle is a woke clown.
Alvin was let go because he wanted to draft the Swedish kid over McKenna.
1. Demko is/ was the number one key to this team and nobody talks about it (check out the team save% without him and forget about bashing the D)
2. JT implosion of himself and the team vibe
3. EP40's Knee
4. "Huggy" became "Pushy" 'what I've Become' Q, and quits
5. Boeser can't skate, minus 50 +/-
6. Rookie Coach who didnt impact
7. Q wasn't a captain in any way
8. Additions meant to augment the core 5 didn't pan out (Kane 13G, DeBrusk non-elite, Marcus Pettersson dreadful, etc etc)
9. 0-4 vs Utah previous season caused the team to miss playoffs
10. They have not found elite players to play with Petey. Ever.
11. Stenberg-EP40-Panarin / DeBrusk-Chytil-Boeser / Sherwood-Rossi-Bjorkstrand / O'Connor-Cootes-Karlsson could have been a thing, but they say instead of that, we have to be crap for 3+ years
12. 12 Million on Goalies who either dont play, or have a regression
Horvat, Miller, Tocket, Hughes, Sherwood, Garland… all massive losses. Some had ok returns but they were never for the better long term. Gotta run Aquilini outta town 😂
Aqua thinks the teams value going from +/- $200m they paid for it to todays value is a direct result of him. It's not because the value of the league has increased massively since then in his mind. Unfortunately the team makes money despite of his antics and bad leadership. I don't see anything changing if the teams are still increasing in revenue, profit and value. Nepotism man child at the helm isn't a recipe for any success which is very clear other than the Gillis years under his ownership.
The thing about ownership is, you're right, and we are all screaming through our windshields about Aquilini, but it's not like there is a large market of cash-flush billionaires (in this economy!) lining up to kick the tires on purchases of NHL teams. Unless we want the Canucks to be owned by some petro princeling or telecommunications conglomerate with even more ethically dubious dealings than Francesco, that is.
Hughes was never going to stay here long term. He made that clear to management several years ago. They certainly tried to convince him to stay but his mind was made up so there’s no point.
1000% agree with Jesse. Can we fire Aquilini… out of a cannon and into the sun?
What’s Vancouver’s NLL team? When’s fifa?
The Toronto Maple Leafs are the problem.
how old is Rutherford….somewhere up near 100? he is too old and out of touch with todays athletes to be in charge
100th comment. All the Leafs stink.
I read today they are considering BergerVAIN as GM in Van.
This dudes ego completely wrecked an era of Montreal Canadiens greatness by having to be the star of the team in the GMs role.
This dumpster fire does not end until the team has new ownership
owner is so bad… less swedes. more nasty north american players, etc
EP40 destroyed this team. Pushed out Tocchet, Miller, and Hughes with his lack of work ethic and dedication. Dude got payed and checked out
