I think the two was fair. Hit to the head so needs to be called but don’t think it was malicious

Legendary dirty goon Taylor Hall…

Arguing with fans over hits is pretty fruitless, arguing with fans on Twitter over anything is futile.
Far-Two8659
Easy 2 minutes. Probably should have been called a major and reviewed, but likely still reduced to a minor. The guy was intentional, the head contact didn’t seem malicious, but obviously happened.
If Brady can get a minor for soesring a guy in the stomach away from the play, I don’t know how Hall’s hit is a major just because head contact occurred.
A_Rising_Wind
Dude put together a power point on this hit lol. Penalty, yes. Major, I would argue yes too actually. Suspension, absolutely not. Less dirty than Brady on any given day? 100%

Not sure who Greg is…but every fan base has their idiots.
From my interactions with Ottawa fans this is not representative of the majority.
I hate when we all get judged by one moronic Hurricanes fan.

DLo needs to play. Know our lineup is working but they’re gonna want halls head.

It’s the internet, who cares. People gonna people, unfortunately. Who is this guy anyways and why does he deserve attention?
Lee-Key-Bottoms
Should it have been a 5 minute major? Probably
Would Ottawa have done anything with it? Probably not
Is saying you hope Hall gets a career ending injury corny? Absolutely

Hand injury being called a concussion…release the D-Lo for Game 4

I think a major would have been appropriate, but there’s no malice here.
In the long run the rule should be clear and consistent that this (a non malicious but clear and probably avoidable hit to the head) is suspension worthy—but given that’s not where we’re at, a suspension here would have been super unfair.

It was not a clean hit, when Trouba hit Jarvis, when Bennett got Slavin’s helmet with his own, and on and on – we don’t like it. Hall could have stayed lower himself and made sure it was straight body to body.
Now the issue is what does the league think about it. And the league thinks that the player being hit shares some culpability if they put their head down at all or place themselves in any position which may lead to a hit to the head, and that’s exactly what happens here. I DO think the responsibility should be solely on the person hitting, but that’s not how things are so guys are going to get lit up, and apparently the NHL thinks the huge hits are worth the risk of long term brain injuries.
If the league passed a rule that similar to high sticking, or the NFL’s head contact rules, where you’re responsible for where your body makes contact with the person you’re hitting – I’d be fully on board. But until that’s the case, we have to live with how things are – but that doesn’t mean that we can’t be objective and see hits like this as less than perfectly clean even though the league technically allows them. Imo a clean hit, he stays lower and checks through the body instead of trying to come up with the shoulder. This is a penalty, which definitionally means it’s not clean, even if it’s not a clear targeting worthy of a suspension.

Really discouraging to see many sens fans in their sub talking about wanting their players to take dirty shots at stank and our other stars just because one guy got hurt on one hit. I really got tired of them whining about the “one-sided refs” but now I’m losing a lot more respect for them after seeing this and then checking out their sub. You really think a 34 year old Taylor Hall is some bruiser who is out to demolish players? Especially defensemen who are much bigger and stronger than him?

Honestly looked like Sanderson saw the hit coming, tried to slow up to avoid it, Hall already committed and caught him in the head instead of shoulder to shoulder. Was 100% a penalty and should’ve been reviewed for a major but wasn’t malicious at all.
syd_cash
I don’t think it was a “clean” hit as it was rightly a penalty, but Hall ain’t a goon and he wasn’t trying to injure Sanderson.

All of the following can be true :
~ The hit was incredibly dangerous and kind of dumb play for Hall, who is no goon. If that were Stutzle on Aho, I’d be losing my shit over it, so I understand the frustration with the call. The lack of supplemental discipline is guaranteed. If Florida can chase you down and board you without a puck in your timezone and not receive additional punishment, this wasn’t going to either.
~ The Sens fan is an emotional idiot who said something dumb because hes frustrated about how the series has gone. I’ve been there too but you won’t see me hoping someone’s career ends for a questionable hit.
~ The NHLs explanation makes sense. Hall is lining up the chest but Sanderson ducks his head. I think Hall had time to adjust and certainly pull up but its the playoffs and he’s going to go full tilt. Unfortunate result, in the end.
~ Green was using the hit as an excuse to get a longer suspension because Hall is eating them alive with the puck on his stick and we all saw Sanderson take a laser to the hand after taking the hit so it’s likely a hand injury.
I don’t like the hit, but it’s a nothing burger in the end, this series has been horribly lopsided in spite of a close score.

Unfortunate head contact, but Sanderson bent down to hit the puck as Hall was going for an otherwise clean hit. Some people have said it was an elbow, but it was obviously shoulder. Either way, it was unintentional and Hall doesnt have a history of head hunting so I believe the right call was made. 2 minutes and no suspension or fine for an accidental shoulder to head hit. Surely the senators will see the replays and be mature about the outcome by not targeting Hall, right guys?

It’s amazing how impartial we expect the fans of other teams to be, and how the same lack of unbiasedness is communicated when judging hits on our own players.
Just shows how well officials actually do on a nightly basis across a larger sampling.
