Agree Gil. Rangers already starting their “rebuild” not sure if its a retool but they played a few rookies and have the #4 pick this year.

  2. I’m of the opinion that ownership with eyes on revenue from one playoff series, pressured Darche to make some moves for experienced players at the deadline. The moves for Palat and Soucy did more damage than if you played say George and Duclair/Shabanov. I believe they made move for Schenn with the plan to move on from Lee, and bring some grit and proper leadership for the next couple of years. I think he was OK, scored 4-5 goals and helped Ritchie. So whenever Darche makes a move, I ask myself is this him or him under pressure from ownership. Ownership won’t do a total rebuild because they don’t want to sacrifice revenue.

  3. THE DATA SAYS isles won 6 series and 33 playoff games in a 3 year SPAN under trotz that ended 5 years ago. isles have managed 3 measly playoff w's since.
so why does darche want to re-tool this average old roster? isles have the goalie, stud d man. fix the eyesore up front. get two top six forwards that can add some g's to isles attack to give isles two legit lines and go from there. when your top g scoring winger barely scrapes 20 g's you are going nowhere. pathetic to see playoff teams out there with multiple 35-40+ g scorers.
you can't have it both ways. re-tool an average roster that lacks elite talent without some kind of re-build with youth. darche is a fkn fool if he thinks he can do it. sometimes going the sj/hab route is the only way to go. and hawks will add another top 3 forward this draft. austen would be nice but isn't happening. just another isle dream. i have dreamed about a big time g scorer for 30 years. and 81 = big F. no way around it-just an old roster that continues to be average.

  4. 😂😂 Barzy HATES Tavares & would never accept a trade to a team he is on. Matthew's talented but not the guy I want. I would take Brady Tkchuck. That would be perfect fit for Isles. Imagine Tkchuck-Horvat-Eklund

  5. Would sooner trade Barzal to Leafs for number 5 plus. Matthew’s is going west! Not interested in Matthew’s. We have to many 🕳️. Draft draft draft! Belchez! Novotny! A center with size from the draft!

  6. The window has closed for a rebuild. The opportunity for a rebuild was when the islanders traded brock nelson. The team should have traded jpg and Klye P at that time and perhaps we go into this draft if we had not traded for Schenn with 3 or 4 picks in the 1st rd. Over the next 3 years the team will have cap flexibility issues as well as a lack of assets for a trade. At this point if we did a rebuild a doubt Sorokin would want to stay. Typically NHL people always say if you have a elite goalie then do a retool. At this point starting to seem as if the Islanders want a reset not rebuild then trade barzal to Vancouver and try to get brock boesner along with elias petterson. This would be a high risk and high reward move. Otherwise the team has to pray eklund and eismerman become nhl stars

  7. Funny last June i said to blow this team up, and I got blasted, seems I had the right idea all along….Say what you want about the Rangers, they saw the writing, released old timers, punted the season, now a high first rounder, I would LOVE to see them get Gavin…..while we settle for , do not get me wrong but we will have choices like, Ethan Belchetz, Jack Hextall or J P Hurlbert…not bad but not Gavin…No playoffs for the islanders this decade…

  8. I personally think Palat and Soucy have to go. Schenn was probably the best move Darche made, although the guy doesn't have that much left either, but he is a heck of a lot better than the other 2. Anders? I hate to see him go, but if it means making this team younger and faster, pull the trigger!

  9. Happy Birthday Steve Webb! One of my favorite players all-time. All heart team mate.

He actually came back to the Islanders and played 5 games after Pittsburgh to end his career.

  10. Good franchises never blow it up and rebuild. It never works. You can find examples across sports. Did the Philadelphia 76ers years of tanking do anything? All those Oilers high picks have never got a cup 10 years later. All you end up with is some high end guys whose prime is wasted trying to build a team around them.

We now have a core. 2 elite players, a handful of high level secondary players and some youth. Keep drafting to add more home grown talent (either for the team or to trade later) and make yourself an attractive free agent location.

  11. Good morning team! Gil, honestly, I'm a cross road. A retool, theoretically brings in a better team, capable of winning now, but the talent last only a short amount of time. I rebuild takes longer, but it almost guarantees long term success, and of course takes longer to get there. I believe our our best option might be to retool. Because is we truly wanted to rebuild, that's a process that should have been taking place during this 2025-2026 season. We gave away picks to acquire a few players when we should have banked those picks in my opinion. Not to mention working on some of our older players and reducing our cap space, which will take a little bit of time. I fear we're getting to the point of losing some of our older players, and getting practically nothing for them. Not the ideal position to be in. Thanks for another wonderful episode. We''ll talk again soon. Everyone, have a great day! See you al again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  12. What Darche should have done is bring up some guys from Bridgeport instead of making these trades. Cost us draft capital and roster spots. Also probably should have traded Lee and maybe Pageau, although both are fan favorites. Bridgeport would have been stocked for the next couple of years and that's how you build a perennial contender.
So what he has done is kick the can down the road another few years, unless he can make another big trade before the draft. But at this point I don't know who he'd trade.

  13. Gm Gil. Take a look at the better teams in the league. The Stars have been a perennial playoff team for a very long time because of the quality management the Isles have lacked over the past 40 years. So far Darche has shown himself to be more of the same. So far, he does not appear to be interested in being one of the league's best teams because chipping around the edges leaves players 2-3 years longer than they should. Every player over 30 should be reviewed for trade value, buyout, waivers, etc. Giving Kyle P and J Pageaux extensions tells u that this team does not know how to win and ownership does not know how to hire for the future. Winning isn't everything. I would gladly trade winning a cup for years of quality play by the Isles. This team has been and will remain a bottom team for the foreseeable future as is.

  14. Matthews is a sad sack and not the kind of downer the Isles need to add. Of course they’d want to make him the captain right away which would be a mistake also. No thanks!

  15. DeBoer / rebuild? Anything is possible, but then the coaching hire doesn’t make sense.

  16. Darche needs to continue to ACQUIRE ASSETS and INJECT YOUTH into this roster. Been watching the playoffs and beyond convinced that this Islander team would have gotten run over by ANY of the Eastern Conference teams currently competing. Reason?…
    lack of SPEED and TENACITY.
The game just goes up another notch come playoff time and if you lack SPEED, HUSTLE and PHYSICALITY, you will have ZERO chance of surviving.
If I’m Darche watching the playoffs, I’m already looking at the liabilities on our roster and understanding that there is NO WAY they can be a part of anything going forward. Pelech, Pulock, Mayfield and even Romanov should all be on high priority to move this summer. Pelech and Romanov can most certainly bring back assets so float them and bring in some more draft capital for this summer. And I can definitely see Aitcheson making the team out of camp, he has been outstanding in Barrie. He’d bring much needed toughness and more scoring touch to add to the blue line.
I want the OLD GUARD sent packing and bring the kids up!

  17. Good afternoon, Gil. How are you? Can the Islanders do both retool and rebuild at the same time. Matheiu Darche is throwing shade at Lou Lamoriello SERVES HIM RIGHT. I wouldn't be surprised if the 🍁 are on his, especially with Pajama Boy in Toronto. Palat seemed uncomfortable when he came to the Islanders, and for that he deserved a D. Hear from you later, Gil, but before I go, I compared Pierre Turgeon to a pre war Michael Corleone from The Godfather the college boy who came 🏠 from the war to attend his sister's 💍 with Kay on his arm. Then there's Kayce Dutton from Yellowstone. A reluctant warrior who came 🏠 from Afghanistan. Who knows how Turgeons career would've been like if it weren't for Dale Hunter.
    Now, LGI 🏒🔵🟠

  18. Can they even do a rebuild? With Pulock, Pelech and Mayfield on long contracts how do you move them? Not to mention Duclair, Pageau and Engvall. Plus Palat (even if it's just next year). They can't just release everyone and have dead cap for years. What teams would trade for them? I am sure the return would not be good and all of them have some form of trade protection anyway. I just hope they don't waste the youth they have being anchored to these contracts. As others have said, last year before Darche came on was the time. Could have moved a few more players, but Lou wasn't doing that.

  19. One franchise they seem in parallel with is TBL who drafted Stamkos and Hedman when we drafted Lee, JT, CC…now see what they as the vet team can do against MTL. BTW BOS, TBL, FLA, NYR all won Presidents Trophy’s. Darsche know it’s his job to build a develop through the draft, not trades for veterans…..any NY Jets fan can tell you that 😊

  20. I agree with you 100 per cent. Re tool is only putting a band aid on a bad wound. getting all these re retreads does not work. He should have sold this deadline he added. put us backwards again. I get the owners want the revenue and probably ordered him to go for it. I would gladly start moving out everyone except Schaffer, tell him our plans hopefully he will understand and not get depressed. Whoever has the top 5 picks tempt them with Barzal and anyone except Schaeffer.

  21. I believe schenn, palmieri , Cizikas will not be traded in the beginning of the year but will be traded at the deadline where they will be worth more to a team looking to the playoffs. Lee will sign for 1 or maybe 2 years while some youth will be marinating (cant rush them all) but ultimately will be traded . Pageau will be traded in year 2 maybe 3 , centers are in high demand . Palat will be bought out this year. We wil sign Shabanov . No clue what will happen to Duclair and Engvall . On D, I think they will trade Pelech . Pulock and or Mayfield will be traded the following year Soucy will not be signed . DeAngelo will sign for 2 years . Boqvist will be signed on a 2 way contract. Rittich will not be resigned. Varlamov will be back up . They probably sign another goalie to Bridgeport as a backup to Varl.
There really isn't a FA (F-D-G) worth signing this year(26-27) . Better of waiting for the 27/28 season when we will have a better understanding on what these kids have. .I don't know but this is what I see happening we.

  22. Hands down your best lockdown show in a long time. This was a great cogent, zoom out honest assessment of the New York Islanders. I happen to agree with you that the ownership just can’t stomach a rebuild, and as a result, we
are doomed to plodding along and at best hoping to “get in”
