They absolutely were punching above their weight class. And its the GM's JOB to realize that. He even SAID it at the beginning of the season! If they're not guaranteed a playoff spot then they would consider selling. It just feels like so many misreads.
You know what Darche knows? Jon Cooper. And Roy is no Cooper. When you implode down the stretch, Roy has given enough ammunition to be fired. You change lines every game, you tell the media that you didn't prepare the team for the start of the game in Philly, you tell the media that the team was nervous before the Carolina game? Palat and Soucy were nothing trades and Schenn is going to and already is helping Ritchie. The Islanders overachieved this year and I knew they were going nowhere with this power play. This team coming into the season was not good enough to lose Palmieri and Romanov. I do not believe DeBoer is going to be ok with Barzal's turnovers. Roy had to go and let's not forget a year ago this organization had no farm system and now at least there is a future. Colorado's pick we got for Nelson is going to be very late first round. Having sat through Milbury, Snow and Lamoriello I have total confidence in Darche. We will see

Hind sight is 20:20, but Pageau and Lee should have been moved out – no Soucy, no Palat, no Schenn.
Go into summer draft w/ 2 firsts (Isles and Avalanche picks), plus what you get from Lee and Pageau.
Add all that to Ritchie, Schaefer, Holmstrom, Eklund, Aitcheson and you're well on your way to a nice rebuild.
Deboer is known to favorite veterans and not give playing time to rookies. Also for burying goalies. Has he learned from his past? Not know as an imaginative offensive coach either?
