Short answer: No. Long answer: No, but that’s ok because we will build a sustainable Cup contender without massive cap issues and an aging roster
Absolutely not! And honestly, I don’t even expect us to make the playoffs for the first few seasons!
I keep hearing that “Well all the GM’s will have learned from the first go round”. OK fair point but you also have to take into account that Francis learned a thing or two as well. It goes both ways. I’m betting that as you mentioned, we focus more so on acquiring young talent and developing those guys for the first few years. But we have a cap that we’re not gonna leave 30 mill under either so it’ll be a balance of young talent and guys who will make us very good out of the gate, maybe just not world beaters the way Vegas was. In this division 3rd place and a spot in the playoffs is not far fetched at all.
I don't mind if we gonna suck next season. Next year's draft is stacked!
If they are competitive and make playoffs, that would be a fantastic season.
The Florida-Vegas trade is still lopsided and still doesn’t make sense. As for Kraken they can weaponize their cap freedom for extra assets that Vegas couldn’t do as much due to flat cap for years going.
"Competitive" is the word. That's where fan expectations should be. And that's what the league set up the expansion draft rules to accomplish: put a competitive team on the ice in a new market. Not like the bad old days of "here's your new toy, Tampa. Now wait for 10 years until you're relevant".
One thing you didn’t bring up was Vegas’ first coaching hire, Gerard Gallant. When you have a lot of misfits and castoffs on your team, you need a coach that can get the most out of them. Unfortunately you hired Dave Hakstol who flamed out in Philly lol
My expectations are to be competitive and maybe fight for a playoff spot If we can actually get some quality pieces like Dougie Hamilton in free agency or maybe swing a trade for Jack Eichel then I definitely expect playoffs at least
If Seattle isn't as competitive as Vegas was it's their own fault. They have the same opportunity as Vegas did to get a great team.
Win or lose, my Krakhead will be cheering at the Krakhouse! Krakerjack out.
They should make a movie about Vegas' inaugural season
I think if they aim for low cap in the expansion draft, say ~50-60 mil, they have a good shot. Scoring is going to be a weakness but you could make a splash for Landeskog if he becomes available, who'll be asking for 8-9 mil. Then you can spend 3 mil on a guy like Blake Coleman who can be a rock solid 2nd line scoring threat, and there's still 10-20 mil of cap space to work with/build from. Really it's gonna come down to good scouting and good coaching.
Yeah I don't see Seattle Kraken making that playoff run for another few years I mean they might become close in the first year but I mean everyone said that Vegas had a 500 to 1 odds of making the playoffs or even the Stanley Cup so anything's possible
Hope not. I liked it better when expansion teams were used as nothing more than an easy 2 points for the rest of the league.
