  1. I'm happy with the trade. Weegar was a weight holding us down for the last few years. Matthew was raised since birth by 1 of the best old time, hard nose hockey player, his Father. Barkov is gonna be hiding in his shell for a bit around Matthew but now someone will have his back. Let's get Brady now! Lol!

  2. Weegar is a bigger loss than huberdud.I Said it before, atleast Weegar showed remorse for his mess up and less than stellar performance vs TB. Where as huberdud would rather party than be a team leader. Team leaders don't say who cares or go meh, when on the verge of being swept. So what if huberdud wasn't told, he showed he didn't care about the TEAM via his actions after getting swept. The team playing better defense after this move will show to be the correct move.

  3. Huberdeau is in a contract year. He needs to have a good season and if he wants out, it'll be at the deadline…not this summer.

  4. I think Calgary will want to see, without Barkov and good support, can Huby still post the numbers. Also, if I were Huby, I would be going into Calgary with A LOT TO PROVE, and I'm sure he will turn that into a positive as much as he can. Also, Calgary has a lot of cap space. If he is going to get top money, there's his choice. If Calgary flips him, watch out if he goes to Toronto for a trade. I think he could be a great plus for the Leafs. In terms of the D, there is going to a lot of healthy competition. I don't have problems w the current D line up, and I think Carlson can step up. Staal and Kierstad are also there. I could see the 3 of them rotating through that 6th slot, looking for who does best in a healthy competitive way. But wouldn't be surprised if Zito makes another deal.

  5. To bad Hubby plays with very little grit (like Barkov, maybe next to go) he has been non-existent during the Panther's playoffs runs. Plus the visit to the strip club just before game four sweep by Tampa, the "who cares" comment and the Instagram post by him celebrating (nothing) with champagne that mysteriously disappeared soon after he posted it due to bad optics. I think he was a cancer in the locker room. I'm sure he is a nice guy with God given talent but doesn't have that do what it takes to win (in the playoffs) that is required in todays NHL. I think he has seen his better days and probably not amount to much going forward. I hate to see him go, but as a free agent next season his agent would have asked for a price too high and we would have gotten zilch for him; at least this way we get a much younger guy that can score and has the true grit that Hubby never will have. I am not too sure about the 1st round pick though and Weegar well he was a throw in and had to go after his awful performance in both rounds of the playoffs. I just wish we could have kept Marchman (sp)

  6. If the Panthers would´ve got Artturi Lehkonen instead of Claude Giroux, their playoff run would´ve been much longer. Lehkonen´s such a clutch!

  7. In terms of Bob, you have to remember his GPA was partially the result of too much offensive push, and D getting caught pinching in. Too bad that his salary is so high it's sort of liability. I think he can do the job, but what you need to do is starting to get Knight to play several games in succession. Agreed Bob was one of your best players in the playoffs last year.

  8. So, the comment Karin made about “hearing Barkov’s unhappy.” Just to clarify. It’s not true

  9. Flames fan here. You’ll love Mathew. I just wouldn’t expect 100 pts again. That was a career contract year when Gaudreau is doing the same. Mathew is a 30 goal, 70 point heart and soul guy. I think you guys are kidding yourself if you expect more. I love Mathew as a fan but I always expected once he signed his new contract that the fans would turn on him. He is just not going to translate points to the money. Now Mathew brings more to the game than just points. So to me he’s worth the cash. One complaint you’ll see right away is he is so slow.

  10. He lost the battle of Alberta, and now he'll find out what losing the battle of Florida is like. No team with Bobrovsky in net is going anywhere in spring, and they can't trade his anchor contract.

  11. Don’t entirely agree with Pam’s take that the Flames are really only getting Schwindt and a 1st. Flames are gonna get way much more than that. They can very easily flip Huberdeau and Weegar at the deadline for more picks/players or just sign them if they think things are turning around

  12. Mackenzie Weegar …the "Marmite" of NHL defence men.

(I don't know if this makes sense to North Americans 🤔?)

  13. The way i see this trade is that both teams get what they wanted, the Panthers get a younger superstar signed long term and the Flames get options and a valuable pick, I think what they end up doing will largely depend on how the first half of the season goes for them, if it goes well they’ll so their best to re-sign Huberdeau and Weegar, if they crash and burn they’ll flip them for extra assets, it is a win win for them, with the caveat being if they do well and aren’t able to come to terms with them, then it would be interesting to see what the Flames do, would they sacrifice the season and flip them or play it out and risk losing them in FA.

Either way it is going to be interesting, personally i am happy with Tkachuk and can’t wait to see what he does for us.

  14. We might regret this guys 🥴 no matter how smart or which way you want to look at it, you don’t get greedy as a gm and just trade the franchise leading scorer for another player whose younger… but I guess we’ll seee

  15. 1. Panthers are 3 million over the cap. Let's see how they get below the cap.
    2. Panthers defensive group looks weak.
    3. Spencer Knight must be your playoff goalie.
    Time will tell.

  16. Flames could get most of season out of Weeger & Huberdeau & still get huge assets back. Or just sign 1/both & this is an absolute home run. On paper, they are better then they were before Tkachuk trade. Tkachuk is captain material & was always discribed as being in fabric of game…but skill wise he will offensively be a passenger, is below average for speed & is usually 2/3 on his line for possession numbers. Also power forwards like Tkachuk hit 30 a lot harder (think Lucic) then skilled wingers like Huberdeau so would be cautious of expecting a huge difference from age difference.
Last thing I will say, room dynamic is important & beginning of end in Vegas was when they were parachuting in outside help & leaving people that saw them through success hi-and-dry. Will be interesting to revisit this trade in 5 years & see where everything falls but initially seems like Cgy got better value from Florida on this one.

  17. The Flames got a top 5 forward, a top 20 d-man, a first and a prospect, Florida got a top 15 forward. Calgary wins hands down.

  18. The Panthers have fans? Who would of thought because the arena is always empty. It's amazing how much a bandwagon can change that. Just like in Nashville. With Hub just resigning and Mackenzie having the a strong desire to resign also the Flames have fleeced the Panthers. No questions need to be asked who won the trade because it's not question anymore.
