7:15 Walman was a Bowman move. Not Holland.
When the Oilers didn't acquire Conner Hellibuck, that was the stupidest thing they could have done!
Broberg is a left handed Dman Adam. Good try
It's not just Bowmen, I question the entirety of the scouting staff!
Guarantee McDavid's camp forced their hand on a goalie move to get the 2-year extension.
Need to clean house on coaches and managers!
Bowman for the leafs?
honestly great on Steve for calling it out as it is. Everything he said was on point. Bowman/Jeff/Knoblauch all have to go asap
Broberg is a left-shot Dman. For the record. The Jarry-for-Skinner trade was disastrous when everyone in the solar system knew that Jordan Binnington was the goalie they needed. Even before the Jarry trade was official, everyone knew that was a horrible trade.
Oilers were too slow ducks were too fast end of story
I agree about Cassidy being the Oilers coach. I also agree Bowman has to be replaced. But do they have time to fix all the issues to raise the window open again for another run to the Finals while McDavid is still under contract? I think they should trade 97 for the best deal they can get from whatever handful of teams McDavid would be willing to go to. If he's willing to accept being traded. How you even broach that subject with him is another matter. Such a fustercluck.
Oilers had what like 9 million not playing between Fredrick and jarry in the last game :/
Exactly Spot on. Leon. The team, the players , coaches , management all were awaken and humbled with the underwhelming season performance ability and resulting quick playoff elimination and that reality should have provided a valuable lesson to be learned by all , which hopefully allowing every aspect of the team to reflect and refocus their intention and drive to be a better team next year.
Last year's end decision to focus only on McDavid wanting to stay an oiler and re-sign as its goal , that direction which resulted in the forced end year exit of key players who Connor didn't like or could outshine him like, Kane, Perry, Brown, Holloway etc, anyone who could outshine or wouldn't fit this "new McDavid & friends model" of the teams roster was eliminated.
Extremely unwise choices but they did that to stroke Connors Ego enticing him to re-signing and patronization of Its, THE "McDavid's Oilers, " "anything you want or do Connor we will make it happen , just please sign and say you will stay "
They assumed that getting to cup finals again without those removed would be easy out of arrogance .
WRONG
They have since learned they were absolutely wrong , and now humbled from the downturn of overall teams cohesion and ability, will get back to building the team as A 4 LINE DOMINANT STRONG TEAM, and not only for the McDavid show reruns that cannot succeed as shown this year .
It was a lesson they all had to learn and reflect on, so next year won't turn into the next iteration of "THE DECADE OF DARKNESS PT2 "
LOL, " Why did you even bother to get dressed ?"
Integration process for incoming players was less than ideal to allow player or goalie to get comfortable and confidence with the new team .
Everyone underestimated the impact of facing Ducks "With Woodcroft prior inside knowledge and his motivation for taking down the team who fired him most recently "
That cup series preparation strategy should have been top priority , instead wasn't even thought of as a potential impedance to Oilers game ability .
Ducks focused so hard on defeating the Oilers as a primary goal for end of season which was obvious to me from the prior 2 games oilers vs Ducks this season tactically i could see the focused intention of shutting down Connor and the entire Oilers playbook in the current at the time form as it was this year,
i think however , that singular focus might break in second series for ducks to not be prepared for. other teams that are not the Oilers and Connor. Result Pushing team to hastily adapt and adjust on the fly which may cause their undoing or they might make it through the round but my gut says potential chaos costing ducks the series . have to wait and see first few games .
"Woody nice tactical job Congrats.
HOWEVER… Hockey Gods Karma's is a fickle Bit@h' Enjoy it while you can . It's not over . many games to go .
Oilers will be back next year more prepared and focused .
Cheers, Im kidding … maybe , sort of .. hahs One can hope . lol
At what point are people going to finally admit that mcdavid is overrated? People need to stop blaming anybody and everybody BUT him. He has 2 cup loses, a first round loss and Canada losing in Olympics. Want to know the correlating factor? He played hero puck, every time it’s 1 on 3 with him and what happens? He sucks at defense and is selfish
who are these guys ,is there a unattended gas station?
nurse couldn't stop the bleeding in the royal al
Mcdavid is overrated it’s that simple. He is robin not Batman. There is a brand new excuse every year of why he hasn’t won.
I'll trade you Kucherov and a 1st for Conner.
Yeah, let's just pretend as if McJesus didn't have anything to do with that GM getting hired, or his junior coach being hired and any personnel decisions being made…
Hawks fan here: saw this Bowman masterclass since the day Edmonton hired him 😂
When they announced they traded for Jarry, my mouth hit the floor. 🙄
Watch any Bruins game this past year. Now watch every Oilers game this past year. You can immediately see the difference where a team together defensively has sound back checking even the forwards, hardly ever see any 2 on 1's or 3 on 2's. If the Oilers had made this one fix, probably would have been a better season.
I have a question. Maybe I’m wrong. Why on earth didn’t Edmonton take Carter Hart when he was available. I don’t get it. He was basically free.
If only Connor knew how to play basic defence and work without the puck he would have won the cup by now. Maybe he will learn but I doubt it
They reached back-to-back Finals with average goaltending, and this year all three centers were injured. No need to panic—tweak, don’t make rash moves like Leafs. They are right there. I think the Hyman injury one of those years cost them the cup. It just needs to all come together.
sorry disagree, walman is garb and that was Stan Bowman, how are you guys citing false info?
The Oilers have Leaf disease. They have failed to fix their goaltending since Mike Smith was their guy. They have taken a lot of swings at it including Mikko Koskinen, Stuart Skinner, Jack Campbell, Calvin Pickard, Tristan Jarry, Connor Ingram. The team itself hasn't been good enough. We often talk about how having a really good goalie papers over some of the deficiencies a team has. Think Carey Price in Montreal or Connor Hellebuyck in Winnipeg. Toronto and Edmonton have some top end forwards that make them very exciting to watch and allow them to have some success without making them good enough to win a cup. McDavid and Draisaitl help paper over a lot of the problems in Edmonton for years now.
Both these lineups have spent to the cap, poorly. Both got caught in the COVID cap crunch.
Calvin Pickard took over from Skinner in the playoffs last year in the second game of the first series. Calvin Pickard played in 10 of the 22 games. He was statistically very similar to Skinner in these playoffs. That is why they felt they had to move him.
The Oilers are yet another example of a gm's overreliance on NTCs coming back to screw the team over by preventing the roster changes the team very obviously needs. The other obvious example being the Leafs ofc.
Thank you steve I have been yelling this from the high heavens. Bowman should be fired from that Jarry trade alone. I never wanted this guy as GM I was upset when we got him and he has done NOTHING to make the team better. Fire him fire him fire him.
I’ll say it again: Freddie’s a free agent after the summer…..
Edmonton GM over pay for average or just above average talent. Plus all of your goalies are AHL level. Top scoring cant save poor defense and poor goal tending.
