That Boucher puck was wild. What a reach.

  2. I mean fair but that draft was notoriously weak. Look who came after Boucher? Not who was still available but who was available that was actually ranked where ottawa was drafting. If you’re gonna fuck up a 1st rounder that was the year to do it.

  3. solidprospect

No it didn’t. Some picks flop. Not a big deal.

It sucks when you don’t get anything from a draft, but it happens often and it’s not something that « sets you back ». The 2020 draft was good enough for the next 2 to suck, would’ve been better to get more talent of course, but 2021 didn’t fuck us.

This has to be rage bait lmao. Getting lucky with a late round pick happens in every draft in every sport.

  6. Strange-Professor-

Pierre “He’s not that bad!” Dorion…

  7. I wanted them to take Wallstedt at the time, it made sense, and was good value. Obviously, we then took Boucher

Ottawa traded away so many draft picks during their rebuild

  9. Weak_Flamingo_3031

Really the 21,22,23 drafts we didn’t draft a single impact player. Like maybe some guys will develop into replacement level players. Just such poor management

This hasn’t been a good drafting team since 2012

I look at this draft often, but also remember that all 3 guys we were rumoured to like went right before us…how good would Guenther look on Timmy’s wing right now?

Glad last year’s draft wasn’t just draft big, but still lots to be desired. Hope they swing this year, even at 32, go for a guy with clear offensive instinct (aka high pts), good skating, rest can be filled in.

The stephan trade was one i always hated. Especially when it was made. Never understood that price at all

  13. Pretty much every second and third rounder that wasn’t pinto and Kleven during the Dorion era was a horrendous pick.

Those misses set us back 5 years

I’m so done with this franchise.

Dont forget we didnt take Wallstedt LOL.

Imagine him and Ullmark as 1A 1B……

To be honest PD only had 1 really good draft which was 2020 however Stu and Sandy were both completely obvious slam dunk picks at their spot (Sandy was definitely a top 5 pick for GMs but not us internet scouts).

Can’t give PD too much credit, fucked up the following picks:

    Thomson
    Peterka
    Entire 2021 draft
    Entire 2022 draft
    Entire 2023 draft

Missing on Tyler Boucher is okay if they hit on their draft picks in 2019, 2022, and 2023… oh wait

  17. reagan080

Everyone is focusing on this pick but the two trades they made for Cat and Chych is what the true set back was.

  18. bugabooandtwo

Last good draft was 2020. Yak might turn into something, but he is also a very flawed player. Hesler took a step back this year.

  19. CantaloupeHour5973

And people will still go on about Pierre Dorion was great in the draft. Guy was dumber than dog shit

  20. youneverknow44

It takes a truly thoughtful and brave Internet personality to criticize an individual team’s draft class 5 years after the fact.

    Compelling and rich content. /s

  21. SensFan1875

I remember getting a ton of shit from this sub for criticizing this draft, especially the Boucher pick. Most of the comments were some version of « Do you think you know more than Trent Mann? »

It’s crazy because even at the time the Boucher pick looked horrible. Players who were projected to go in the 2nd round of the 2022 draft were putting up better numbers than him for the USNDT at the time. And his injury issues were very obvious.

He definitely had some tools, but it was a clear case of executives trying to outsmart everyone else in the room and utterly failing.

Posts like these are just obsessive navel gazing. All teams have years like this.

    All of them.

And Ottawa’s isn’t even particularly noteworthy for being super bad.
