You can respect a player and admit when there’s an opportunity for improvement. He didn’t show up in the way we needed him to in the playoffs. Point blank. Should he be traded? No. But he needs to figure out how to get his emotions in check during big moments.

The only reason this discussion is even happening is because a lot of fans believe the team’s results over the last four years do not align with the quality of players and coaching the team has.
The reality of the situation is this is the fourth straight year of first round exits, and this season being to a very young, very inexperienced team with an inexperienced head coach. Pivotal losses happening on home ice every single season.
All these things being said, the nature of the roster, cap situation, and trade protection throughout the core means that only Vasy and Kucherov can realistically be moved if you’re talking about retooling.
We can acknowledge Kucherov’s contribution to this team’s success and also be realistic in discussing moving him for the right return. It’s not all so black and white.
Best player wearing our jersey is putting the best coach in the NHL in a hot seat because he plays like a total candy ass when it counts. Esposito was absolutely infuriated with how he played in Game 5 on the call, there was no hustle.
« You wouldn’t sniff one without him » — youre right, but were also not doing anything with the opportunity either. So you do one of two things, you rebuild or you retool around the guys who are hungry enough.
Hagel was sprawling out in front of the EN ready to sacrifice teeth in the waning seconds of game 7 where his efforts would likely be fruitless becasue of what the clock had left on it. There is not a second that goes by where he doesn’t think he cant win, I just do not think the same level of compete is in Kuch. You know who does have it? McDavid and Mackinnon do.
The best player to probably ever wear the jersey for sure.
Are you allergic to nuance? The Cups don’t happen without him, true. What’s also true is that this is becoming a pattern of woefully underperforming, and frankly poor effort.
Here’s the thing… we need big players to step up in big games, PERIOD. The last four playoffs, his attitude has been terrible. When the stakes are there, you need to be able to rise to the occasion in the same way that other players of the caliber do. When you don’t and your attitude is bad on top of it, there needs to at least be a discussion of what needs to be done in order to address it. I’m not saying trade him…
I’ve been a die hard supporter of this club and have been watching for 25+ years. I have never been so frustrated with a player like I have been with Kucherov in the post season these last few years and I say this with him being my favorite player.
Trading Kuch would be the dumbest move by this franchise, by far.
There are changes needed, but nothing drastic.
Point needs to prove he can play like he did in 24-25 to stick around.
Defense changes are needed as we cannot retain all of them.
A solid backup goalie is needed to give Vasy some more rest before playoffs.
A solid 2 way center that has a mean streak would be a nice addition as well.
So if someone makes a Godfather offer for Kucherov – how do you not seriously consider it?
People concerned about this team retooling / rebuilding seem to forget that a decision like that was made almost 20 years ago and the Lightning ended up with Stamkos and Hedman . That worked out well.
He’s been the hard carry for the season every season and anyone who thinks he should be gone doesn’t really like him
I love Kuch but the turnovers in this series……
