I agree. We’re pretty much where everybody has us and even wants us.
Edmonton is lol
Vancouver is oof
Toronto is…Toronto
Winnipeg imploded spectacularly (same as Toronto – see above)
Ottawa showed signs of life but catastrophically fell apart, depending on how next season goes there’s an argument they could be above us, or at least roughly on par
Some could even say we overachieved this year. I felt like there were more games we won that we deserved to lose, than games we lost but deserved to win.
And Montreal looks like they might’ve arrived. As my 2nd Canadian team and 4th overall, excited to see how far they go
We’re just not being talked about at all really and it’s honestly refreshing
We do feel like we have direction, and Conny has stuck to his word on injecting youth into the lineup and giving people opportunity.
Are we gunna win the cup next year? Probably not, but it feels like we have some sense of direction and culture, which are things I felt we were severely lacking post Tkachuk / Gaudreau. So those things combined with a front office that stays calm, doesn’t make knee jerk decisions and handles their assets well? Yeah! We’re lookin hot!
I think it’s more so we don’t have any expectations right now outside of landing some talent in the draft but I’d say there’s a very good chance that 3-5 years from now, The Flames and Habs will be the only Canadian teams poised for a deep playoff run due to everyone else either having shitty management, little to no draft capital or a mixture of both
The fanbase is excited, we have a clear path that we are moving towards. I’ve never cared less about other fanbases chirping. 📈
That’s a pretty low bar.
Yeah I don’t know if this is true
I don’t see why Ottawa belongs. They had a fantastic closing of the season, and lost to a pretty good hockey club.
Winnipeg had injuries and could bounce back easily. I don’t see what the circus is
Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver are clear though
I don’t think he’s wrong. We know exactly where we are, what we are doing, and what the plan is… And it’s hopeful.
I think if we can get a top 2-3 pick the next couple seasons, we will be in the best shape of all Canadian teams.
Gould is biased as a Flames fan but I don’t think he’s wrong.
Ottawa and Winnipeg could be debatable but both underachieved this year and need a shake up.
I do not agree with Gould. He said this clearly having forgotten about Murray Edwards who will figure out a way to fuck the whole thing up
