Or the guy just had a kid, is pissed off we got swept, and is tired of repeatedly answering the same bullshit question. Can these reporters not ask actual questions pertaining to the team today and not a hypothetical two years down the road when nobody knows where the fuck anyone will be? It’s horrible reporting. Can see why more pro athletes are getting into the space
Tbh he’ll do whatever he feels best for him…all id hope is that he keeps it classy like his brother did for Calgary and does a sign and trade allowing the Sens to recoup some assets (hopefully they turn out better than Huberdeau and Weegar did)
My only nit pick is the use of past tense. He says have been fully committed to this team, it’s not like he said I am fully committed to bring the stanley cup to Ottawa. He can make some of the noise go away if he says that and he hasn’t.
I consider myself a Brady realist. Not a hater, not a defender. Could he leave? Sure. Anyone could leave, it’s pro hockey. Gretzky left Edmonton, anyone can go anywhere at any time. Do I want him to leave? Of course not. I love watching him play for Ottawa and would hate to see him play anywhere else. Do any of his comments or his fathers comments or his brothers comments or the tone of his voice or White House social posts or, or or mean anything about his future with or without Ottawa? NO. Whatever is gonna happen, is gonna happen. Let’s just enjoy the team as is as long as we can. Cheer our hearts out and have a fun ride.
BUT if we’re nit picking then the double negatives are fun to nit pick at “I NEVER said NONE of those things” literally means “I DID say those things” but pretty sure that’s NOT what he meant. English is such a funny language that way and we can in no way expect a 20-something professional athlete to be a professional orator as well.
GO SENS GO!
He did say he was commited to the city.
Some people are going to keep dismissing the mountain of obvious signs until this is done.
Brady isn’t just some random 4th liner, he’s the captain of the team. He held out for a big contract and the big C on his chest. Whether people like it or not, fans DO expect him of all players to speak highly of Ottawa and leave no doubt that this is where he wants to play.
Some people are just so far up Brady’s ass they act like this is some kind of unreasonable expectation from the fanbase. It’s really not. I’ll just agree to disagree with anyone on this issue.
If I didn’t already have a Tkachuk jersey there’s no chance I’d consider buying one right now. Just a small part of why fans might want some assurance.
With Bruno, its been the club that has looked into cashing in on him and he’s wanted to stay
With Brady, the org wants him to stay and its a question of if he wants/will want to leave
He can’t predict the future. If next negotiations he thinks he’s worth $18M AAV and the Sens think he’s $12M AAV, then he’s gone. (Just random numbers to make a point.). Also, if he comes out and says he’s a Sen for life, that would hurt negotiations for him. Just enjoy him while he’s here, however long that may be.
He could say « I’m going to play every single game of my career with the Ottawa senators » and people like you would still find a way to spin it negatively. Just let things play out, quit overanalysing everything, and stop manifesting his exit.
You can read between the lines but we are at the point where until it comes from his mouth that he wants to leave and has that conversation with the organization, he’s an Ottawa Senator. He’s committed to winning. That’s where it’s at. Everything else means nothing. Same thing with McDavid. He says he wants to win in Edmonton. Doesn’t mean that he may come to a point where he leaves. Also doesn’t mean that he won’t stay there for his whole career.
It’s professional hockey nobody is above the team and everyone can be traded. Every player has contracts and rights that come with them that they have earned. They also have a certain level of control. At the end of the day he’s going to do whatever he believes is best for him and his family. As a man I can respect that regardless of where it takes him be it in Ottawa or somewhere else.
So we’re comparing a player in a sport with no salary cap playing for a perennial Champion’s League contender to an NHL player? Makes no sense.
Also, what do you Brady haters want him to say? “I’m staying here no matter what even if we finish dead last every season and I’ll sign for $1 AAV just to be part of this franchise till I’m 42”? There’s enough external noise trying to shake him loose from our team. You guys make it so much worse.
McDavid is as dedicated as you can reasonably expect and basically told management I’m going to take a huge pay cut and in exchange you have 3 years to figure it the fuck out”. Seems pretty fair if Brady did the same. These guys want to be part of something trending in the right direction, they can’t always give you a definitive answer.
He basically told people what is about to happen
A) It has become a distraction
B) He will talk to Staios to see what he can do to improve the team
C) The playoffs dampened how he feels about how close we are to contending
D) He HAS BEEN fully committed
If, in a month or two, he comes out and says this has become a distraction and he felt it was time to make a decision about his future and has elected not to extend, I hope people don’t seriously believe he didn’t know he was on his way out before his next contract all along. He is told what to say by his agent, it should give people pause that these were the points he made. This decision was likely made a long time ago, but now you’re watching the rollout.
