1. Between Cossa, Augustine, Postava, Gylander, and Guimond, Detroits' goalie pipeline is a wealth of riches. Expect one of them to be traded for forward assets.

  2. I think Yzerman could shock us all and trade the most valuable asset right now, John Gibson. He could then move BOTH Cossa and Postava up to the Wings. Augustine takes over in Grand Rapids, and either Guimond or Gylander plays backup. This only happens if the Griffins go on a deep run.

  3. Trading Gibson makes more sense than trading Cossa, retool and go with Postava/Cossa next year, could get a haul for Gibson, try and get back in the first round or get a young center/forward with skill that this team desperately needs

  4. Package Cossa in a trade. Postava to Detroit, Gylander G1 and Augustine G2 in GR next year. Gylander and Postava are better than Cossa but all 3 will probably be NHLers.

  5. Trading up to get a goalie who could not crack the lineup in 5 seasons and has been passed up by an undrafted goalie is not a good look

  6. Wallinder and Johansson are both 6'4" 200+lbs and they look good playing together. I wouldn't mind seeing them as the 3rd pair in Detroit either this season or next.

  7. I would package up cossa in a heartbeat and trade him. We need a top line winger. Postava looks hella better than cossa.

  8. Cossa fell off down the stretch two years in a row. They already have enough guys to take care of falling off the stretch. Move Cossa before he's exposed and not worth keeping around.

  9. Bring up cossa so you dont lose him, if his season is meh. You can trade him end of season and bring up postava. Cossa with some nhl games will be more valuable. Postava needs a full season under his belt not just a 20 some game sample.

  10. It kind of feels like the wings brass is scared of committing and making a wrong move with our prospects, not giving cossa any games this year while he was looking like he was playing well was a huge mistake

  11. Trading Cossa should definitely be on the block. Not because Cossa is bad but because he still has value and Postava is better. It’s not giving up on Cossa it’s proper asset management.

  12. Cossa did well, but with inconsistencies down the stretch… But it would be foolish to wait; if he proves to be too inconsistent, then few other teams are going to want him for any decent cost. If Posty & the Griffins are able to go deep into the playoffs, Posty will have proven himself. They have Augustine and Gylander (in Toledo) as well. Gylander will probably only be an AHL goalie as he's 24yo, but that's fine. Griffins need a good goalie as well. If the Red Wings decide to move on from Cossa now while he has "good, but unknown ceiling" value, they could get something back decently in return from a team in desperate need of a decent goalie prospect (like Edmonton).

The one leg up that Cossa has is height. Goalies are on average 6'3" and getting taller, and Posty is 6'2" whereas Cossa is 6'6". Augustine is 6'1". But a tall inconsistent goalie is still an inconsistent goalie.

So many people focus on Cossa being drafted over Posty not. Thing is, Red Wings have said they (& we know Edmonton as well) were watching him in the Czech league for several years. Posty was in goal for the championship team last year. A good reminder is Talbot, who had an amazing NHL goalie career, was never drafted.

Goalies develop differently. They're never ready out of college or juniors. They generally take until they're 22, 23, 24, even 25 to be ready for the NHL. They get measured by forward and even d-man development (& d-men take longer to develop, too). It's not the same. There's a level of confidence, swagger, and consistency they need to get to before they're ready, and it takes time.

I do believe Cossa will get there, but how he translates to the NHL is still an unknown. He played half of a winning game in the NHL in 24-25. The problem again is waiting too long, finding out he's not going to be a starter, and then trying to trade him.

I love Cossa. I've met him in person, and he's a great guy. I want him to succeed. It may not be with Detroit.

  13. Manitoba also was handed a pp with 4 mins left to the game, when both teams were pushing. Johansson got a penalty, but it was actually another moose defender than high sticked his own guy. Johansson's stick was on the ice, got twisted up in the guy's feet as he was falling. And Johansson was called for the high stick. It was during that 5-on-4 that the Moose scored, leaving less than 3 minutes left, and they just locked it down defensively at that point. So I give DiVincentiis a LOT of credit for keeping the Griffins off the board, but the refs get some credit for the win. 🥴

  14. We don't all agree that they need more help on defense. If they don't change a thing, I'm fine. Focus on forwards. Petterson and Robertson. That's all.

  15. If there's a trade for a legit top line C or LW and Cossa is part of the ask, he is 100% on the table. They aren't going to improve the roster in one position without giving up something legitimate in return. If I had to, I trade Cossa to improve offense and resign Talbot for a 1 year contract and give Postava some games in the NHL this year.

  16. Lombardi has to make the team out of training camp, he has to go through waivers to be sent to the AHL and he will not clear

  17. trade cossa while his value is still the highest it’ll ever be. no point in gambling on his issues being magically fixed when we have 3 other options that look even better imo. go get a 2C with him.
