After seven years as GM, how can Yzerman say "we need better players" and keep the same pro scouting in place?

Guys you're making excuses. Yzerman is the dying and rotting in the locker room. There are no prospects coming.. Yzermans prospects are trash.. Yzerman has traded away Bertuzzi, he has given away Walman, he has let Gostisbehere, Yamamoto, Kostin, Lyon.. walk! He has given away our 1st round pick for a 35 year old 3rd pairing defenseman!! Here is more of his past mistakes.. he extended Berggren, Veleno, Rasmussen, Zadina.. WTF he over paid Copp, Compher, Appleton, Docker, Holl, Husso, Gustafson.. 7 years of bad signings, extensions, and drafts… The reason why the team was "good" early.. was because they played 3 more games than everyone else when they were 1st place!! And only 10 points separated top and 9th.. Wings were NEVER great! They had a negative goal differential!! They were the only team in the top 8 with a negative goal differential!! Lyon > Gibson.. WTF
Folks continuing to talk about Tarasenko… he had 3g 10a prior to the trade that brought in Hughes. He was on pace for Detroit numbers. Hughes comes in, and suddenly he's the best thing since sliced bread. I'm not saying there isn't something wrong in the room, but let's not pretend Tarasenko went to Minnesota and immediately became a beast. He was mid before Hughes.

“…Joke Retreads” Like the kind this GM has brought to town year after year: Appelton, JVR, Perron, Holl (2 years), Gustafsson, Hamonic, Mrazek, Petry, the Walman debacle, Husso, Reimer, 5×5 Compher, extended Rasmussen, just off the top of my head. Spencer talking about the great drafting is of note, too. Must have missed the great job Cossa is doing for GR in the playoffs. You'll shoot back with something along the lines of other names. Well, after seven years, where are they? Sophomore slumps, first liners with 30 points and over ripening in the minors. Danielson appears to be Veleno skating and Compher offense. Seven years and what do you have? A top pair D, a wimpy first line wing, a few middle six forwards and at best, a PP specialist D in the mold of Gostisbehere.
Bad chemistry and lack of an alpha on and off ice. Watching the same collapse at the same time every season with different players and coaches isn't a coincidence. This is all on management and choices. Saying that nothing can be done and we should just keep doing the same thing is outright loser talk. Expect the same shit next season if this is how it's going to be.
Keep in mind that I'm not including Seider, Cat, or Finnie in this rant.
No excuse for the lame free agents, but name me one team still in the playoffs that wasnt built in the draft or by the attractiveness of the location, Vegas. Everybody up until this year was no way on trading larkin, now 70% of you at least want him gone, if he traded larkin before this year youd all want his head. Bottom line how many top 3 draft picks have the wings had in your lifetime. Im waiting…you dont build a team in free agency and if you dont start with an anchor player, which he didnt have til he drafted seider, you're gonna be fighting an uphill battle. That locker room needs to be blown up, but thats gonna piss off everybody who just wants a medicore team that makes the playoffs. The nhl is not gonna do any favors for the wings, like they have for larger market teams like toronto, Chicago, san jose and even annaheim, so what do you want, to keep chasing mediocrity or to blow it up, pray for a top 3 pick and trade a ton of assets for less assets that are higher value? Had they retained their first round pick ot still would have only been the #15 pick which baring a mirscle is a developmental player. Also you want a better lottery pick, then show up and show out at the games to convince the nhl this is a large enough market. The days of getting more than one superstar past the top 3 picks are nearly gone, it can happen, bu it takes a little bit of luck and even then your not getting a guy coming out the gates as a superstar. Pav and z took 3 years to reach superstar point production.
Steve said it was his fault. He said, our players aren't good enough! That is on Steve! He isn't a good GM.
It's on the players. The GM can only do so much, the coach can only do so much. They can't go out and play for the players. Players don't hate losing, they say they do but they dont show it. Players are too soft and have no marbles.
They never picked 5th. They were never 1st place by winning percentage. Yzerman put this soft ass roster together. Yzerman has repeatedly resigned guys that are part of the problem. Debrincat basically brought himself here. Yzerman has waaaay more blunders than good moves. He has set this team back for years. He never sells when he should have. He keeps guys until they’re unmovable. He’s been terrible at asset management. Not even getting into the Cossa move. There’s no way he shouldn’t have at least 5 games by now. He’s scared that he’s going to be a bust. He didn’t have to move up to get Cossa. Yzerman has straight up done a shit job!!
Problem is players don't believe in him. When was the last time a player waived a NTC to come to Detroit? When was the last time a top free agent signed with Detroit? Detroit has all this cap yet top talent is not coming to Detroit.
My issue with Yzerman and why I could give a fuck less if he stayed our GM is ever since he has been here our team has gotten softer and softer and softer and softer and SOFTER. And that in my opinion is HIS fault. Obviously yes to a certain degree it is the Players fault for not playing with enough heart but at the same time ever since Yzerman has gotten here we haven't even encouraged that kind of a play style. Like not even a little bit. What made the 2015-2019 Seasons tolerable was sure we Lost a lot but we had guys who went and Plastered someone into the boards or started a scrum or just did something to piss the other team off. Now, we don't have anyone who's willing to do that or even try to do that. And Yzerman has shipped off anyone who could even remotely do that. I would MUCH rather have Luke Glendening, Klim Kostin, Luke Witkowski, Dylan Mcilrath, Cedric Lacroix on the Team than MICHAEL RASMUSSEN. The fact that he still plays for our team is why I have Zero sympathy or respect for Yzerman. He wants to talk about "It's obvious we need better players" When he had few enough Brain Cells to be gracious enough to extend our worst player until the 2028 Season. And Rasmussen is the definition of useless. 6'6, 230 Pounds 6 Goals, 8 Assists and 8 Whole Penalty Minutes this year. 8 Penalty Minutes. That's embarrassingly pathetic. If it werent for the Red Wings i dont even think Rasmussen has a NHL Job. Straight up. But at other times we see what happens with Guys like that, like Soderblom who when they're gigantic and you use them properly like how Pittsburgh is those guys are force to be reckoned with. But we refused to use him in that kind of a role so on our team he didn't do much because we're so worried about Winning on Talent alone that we either forget or refuse to acknowledge there needs to be a little physical play in the process of Winning. You think Colorado and Tampa and Florida got to where they are by being nice to other teams? No they didn't so why do we try to be the world's classiest hockey team instead of being a feared team. Until we decide we want to intimidate other teams, not only do I not think they're gonna win anything I don't even want them to win anything because you don't deserve to play soft Hockey and win..
1st round pick and Dylan and Cossa for McDavid. McDavid will get the loser attitude out of them in 6 seconds. . Oh and why did Stevie. Sergei, and Brett have Probert, Kocur and McCarty? Yet Dylan and Lucas get bullied and injured? Why can't we find an enforcer?
You look at the Leafs hiring Chayka and the Canucks looking at Dorion. Not great options, I'd rather keep Yzerman.

Players like andrew copp and compher are cancers. Players around them are sick of seeing them go 20 games at a god dam time without a goal and staying in the lineup every njght. Same thing with rasmussen he sucks so god dam bad
