If cigarettes can’t be advertised then neither should all these dogshit gambling sites

  2. IllustriousLie4105

Anyone got the odds on if they will ban these ads or not?

  3. Dis-Ducks-Fan-1130

To be honest, seeing how much these companies are making, I thought this would be a bigger problem by now. I’m surprised how people have this much money to lose and complaining about making ends meet.

  4. BleepBloopWhirr

But how else will they get a generation of teens addicted to their product?
Look at all the guys who shill for it.

  5. CMCdaGoat

I have probably posted here before, but as a bankruptcy attorney gambling is ruining a generation of men. It is going to take decades to fix the effects gambling has had on the general population. Never used to see Men under the age of 50-ish other than mostly for car crashes with large judgments. One of the biggest topics at the last bankruptcy conference I attended was counseling Chapter 13 clients with gambling debts.

  6. TouristOpentotravel

And then get pissy when a player gambles on said sites.

  7. FireFightingManiac

lol I’m so used to it by this point

  8. But how are we going to keep making all the money we want?

  9. millsy0550

NHL makes half of baseball and a third of football. Who cares about ads stop crying.

  10. Feels like this gambling tsunami is just the next iteration of a public addiction crisis, hiding right in plain sight. Over 50% of men 18-50 have active gambing app accounts, and no other addiction causes as many suicides as gambling. Genuine public health crisis, and everyone’s just behaving like it’s a fucking wheeze.

  11. mattcojo2

It’ll get there one day. But, again, to be fair to the NHL… they are far from the only sport where this is a prevalent thing.

  12. SkullAndRoses_

Gambling ads are way more enjoyable than some other commercials, like that 5-minute long one about the hungry dogs

  13. screechypete

They’re suckling the teets of the gambling companies until regulations are put in place, to milk them for everything it’s worth. Those regulations can’t come fast enough. I wonder how many gambling addicts they’ve caused to relapse with how egregious it all is.

  14. Competitive-Elk6117

I know they won’t take them down cuz of the influx of revenue but god it is pissing me off. I want to enjoy my sport because it’s a sport not part of a casino. If I wanted to be bombarded with gambling ads and throw my money away I’d go visit the knights

  15. They most likely pay the most, because they’re taking money from viewers turned users. The league is most likely not going to say no to the money for moral causes.

  16. discgolfpilot

I want them gone and would be nice. But I also want the cap to increase

  17. Complete-Emergency99

It’s so weird that I, and many other ofc, grew up with state controlled gamling ”ads” on tv when watching football (the real kind) and not everyone being a addicted of gambling.
Meanwhile, 30 something years later, half of North America seems unable to resist. According to Reddit at least.

  18. _ghostchant

I wonder if gambling ever became hugely problematic in the past? Oh wait…..

I hate this shit and refuse to gamble. To be fair, though, Bettman has stated he doesn’t like it but because laws changed and therefore the landscape of the sports entertainment world, he opened the NHL up to it despite the fact he doesn’t personally care for it.

There’s been a lot of interviews where he discusses it. But that said, I hate it and think it should be toned way down. Especially regarding kids.

  19. evilrastan

Was nice watching olympic hockey and not having to deal with all the shit. Plus they need to stop changing the damn board ads during play, its super distracting.

  20. Disastrous_Art_5132

Its almost like the gambling makes tons of money off of hockey and its a symbiotic relationship. Not sure how OP figures its harmful for the economy or the NHL

  21. XrayGuy08

Why stop at gambling ads? Let’s just ban all advertising so I never have to see another ad for something stupid, annoying or anything I don’t agree with.

  22. Odd-Associate-2211

Ya I’ve quit watching it when those happened. Highlights only. Its sad

  23. CoffeeBoy80

Yeah! It’s time to return to a simpler era of ads for beer and prescription drugs I don’t need!

  24. I started to tune out the NHL in the 2023-24 season when they put ads on the jerseys. It’s only gotten worse since then.

  25. Mikey9to5

I’m almost more annoyed by the AI slop Baerskin adverts I see every commercial break

  26. kingjakerulezz

Gambling ad regulation is on the way, so good news there

  27. ExpendableBear

This goes FAR beyond Bettman and the NHL. All of sports have been ruined by this dogshit need to gamble. All my friends do it, talk about it at work, place bets on bullshit things on Kalshi just because they can. It actually makes me sick.

  28. Holeevyer

And the game isn’t a tiny bit rigged? Tell me the referees are doing a perfect job.

  29. spacegrab

I gamble on SanDisk options. Way more profitable than sports gambling 🤣🤣🤣

  30. Far_Entertainer2365

My feed for last round in Tampa bay was for anti psychotics.

  31. Those advertisers are paying for the salary cap increase apparently.

  32. CherokeeHawkman

These « gambling » sites will literally ban you if you’re a winner and if you’re a smart gambler. They want idiots with more money than sense who will bet parlays rather than people who make large wagers on relatively safe bets. They’re stacking the odds in their favor, they’re taking advantage of people’s addiction and they’re corrosive to our communities, our youth and sports in general.

  33. Buttman said it brings new fans into the sport , perhaps it brings gamblers

  34. Crazycook99

It’s evident the NHL only cares about revenue stream. Look at the Flyers Canadian series when Tocchet was notified at 11pm Thursday night stating they’ll be playing the second round on Saturday. Itc was 3 game sixes on Friday. I feel like the quest for Lord Stanley’s cup is on the back burner due to capitalistic greed

  35. WildBlue73

It’s true. When Gary Bettman and government regulations and ads tell me what to think, I think that thing. If I could think for myself or tune out commercials or think critically I would. But since I can’t it’s a real problem. I’d be in real trouble at this point if it wasn’t a sure thing that the flyers win the cup…

  36. Ok-Arrival8799

Has he ever watched an NFL game? Or like, any other professional sport?
