Vancouver will not draft an American defenceman ever again so Chase Reid wont be selected
It doesnt matter who drafts 1 and 2 its not debatable pick your poison McKenna or Stenberg nothing else. San Jose will draft a good dman with there 20th pick
In many ways the lottery bailed out the canucks. They've frittered most of their top talent for 60cents on the dollar. Whomever they take 3rd will not have the white hot attention, only red hot. This club needs several top five picks and some lower prospects to pop.
Best player available. Then according to development, players are moved for needs. Thinking specifically of the stalled development of Mancini, possible movement of veterans like Debrusk, or M Pettersson.

Carels at #3 for the Canucks would be awesome
would be hard to pass up Stenberg if he's there… if not for me I want Carels, I think he has the biggest upside of the D and Malhotra will probably be middle 6
Isn’t Caleb Malhotra’s dad, Manny Malhotra the coach for the Abbotsford Canucks AHL team? If so, might make sense to take Caleb Malhotra.
If either of Stenberg or McKenna are still there by some miracle, they will take either.
Otherwise, it will probably come down to either Reid or Malhotra, depending on whether they prefer another D, or a C2.
That being said, it would not matter if the Canucks had all #1 to #10 picks this year, they would still not be a contender for five years, if ever.

The Sharks will seriously consider Chase Reid; honestly, he'd be an excellent pick for them—he's going to be a top right-handed defenseman, a rare asset. Unless they find Stenberg too good to pass on (I'm assuming the Leafs pick McKenna), but we've seen in the NHL for the past few years that a good, highly mobile top-pairing defenseman is crucial for a team. So it's a possibility for the Canucks that Stenberg will be available.
chase reid if san jose doesn't take him. i predicted over a month ago toronto or new york picks 1st overall. buttman takes care of his big tv market teams. vancouver already have an ivar stenberg….how's that working out?

At the risk of sounding like Don Cherry, I prefer go Canadian boys. I would be reluctant to draft an American, they generally can’t wait to go back to the States. If the Canucks do draft a defence man, I agree with you , Carels would work.
As fans, we really know less than the pro scouts. All I can do is look at what they say and go with that. What I do know is that based on scouting, Malhotra has a decent floor and a high ceiling. I just wouldn't want to be the team that passes on him and he becomes at minimum a 1A-1B Bergeron type with more offence. Those guys win championships. Obviously, you don't JUST pick him because he's a centre and Manny is his father if there's a better player at another position. It doesn't matter that the Canucks have a number of good, young defensemen. If BPA is a defenseman, you take that player and then you have a surplus that you can use to get what you need later. If Carels or someone else is BPA, pick them and then Willander or someone else suddenly becomes available. They may end up moving Hronek who is 28 and will be well into his 30s by the time the rebuild is over, so if they get a potential #1 D for the future, that's great too. But I don't know that I'd move Hronek for any old 1st round pick. It would have to be at least top 10, either this year or next. You can't afford to botch things up this early in the rebuild. We need to follow the San Jose model. Look at the good, young players they have.

Team must add Nathan Leekk to Abby for zilch.Vincent Collard the same with Nikita Ovcharev. These three guys would ad grit to Abby and possibly Canucks. Canucks will draft Maholtra first,big D with second pick. Can not go wrong.
Either Malhotra or Reid would be the Canucks best prospect and it wouldn't be close. If Stenberg drops the Canucks must take him over Caleb. He's a different tier of talent.

If San Jose picks a defenseman, Vancouver should pick Stenberg as fast as they can
If the reports say he's a 2nd line tier, why even draft him 3rd? Go for 1st line or 1st pairing tier while you're at 3rd.

I fell bad for van scouts… Top 2 are set in stone but #3 will be judged for a decade if they miss somebody better, that is if SJ takes Stanberg… But we should be happy with either we are getting good player at 3 Stenberg or Reed

Malholtra’s a 2C. Red herring smoke screen most likely. Tight tiers = tight lips. There are other players ahead of him who are Top Line projectables. Verhoeff, Reid, Carels, Smits, Belchetz, Rudolf, Bleyl even had just as many points as CM but as a defense man who’ll probably go at 16 overall.
It’s so out of place, the market musta bit on an intentional head fake.
Malholtra may most likely go to Calgary in need enough to reach down to tier 3 to take the first centre at 6 overall.
SJS has already declared they would explore trades for the 2nd overall, have just rejected the opportunity to draft Stemberg. So what does that tell you?
Stenberg is overrated and will fall. Stenberg was surrounded by NHL-calibre skaters, stats relatively padded and any holes smoothed over, just like Malholtra. They will both fall a bit.
1 Tor – Mckenna LW
2 SJ – Reid RD (doubtful they’ll get their trade)
3 Van – Stenberg LW (Swede for Petey)
4 Chi – Belchetz LW (brute for Bedard)
5 NYR – Verhoeff RD (highest upside RD, protected development behind Fox)
6 Cgy – Malholtra LC
Belchetz is the most underrated, I wish he was a Canuck more than any other player on the board
