@Oilers d'Edmonton

#oilers #nhl #oilershockey #oilersnews #oiler #connormcdavid #mcdavid #edmontonoilers #edmonton #edmontonhockey #yeg #yegedmonton #yegsports #nhl #nhlplayer #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #nhlshorts #hockey #hockeyplayer #hockeyteams #leondraisaitl #draisaitl

  1. Team had nothing left this year, then on top of that got super unlucky with injuries. Our only totally healthy centre was Josh Samanski, like let that sink in a second. It sucks guys, but this year was always going to be a down year. Re sign murphy and Dickinson (what we need for next year), get a new coach with a d system like Cassidy, and maybe try and figure out the goalie situation plus offloading nurse if possible. I don't think this team is actually that bad off.

  2. Enough with the ‘Connor McDavid is leaving’ nonsense. Then fine trade him today. But the same people saying it would be the first ones crying about it. It’s a tired, brain-dead take. Just appreciate that the best player in the world is here RIGHT NOW.

  3. Hold in a sec, I don’t think you’re being entirely fair here with every issue and who is to blame. In fact, I’d argue that Stan Bowman has made more good moves than bad ones.

    Bad moves:
Tristan Jarry trade. Bowman overpaid in the trade where Jarry was clearly not a good fit environment wise. He’ll be much better in Utah with no Darnel Nurse present on the blue line because in that place is Mikhail Sergachev.

Mangiapane Free Agent Signing. He was much better in Washington and didn’t thrive as well as he should’ve under Knoblach. Also a bad fit environment wise. He did improve in Chicago thankfully.

    That’s it.

    Good Moves:
    Isaac Howard Trade
    Quinn Hutson signing
    Connor Ingram trade
    Connor Murphy Trade
Jason Dickinson & Colton Dach trade
    Vasily Podkolzin Trade

Multiple decent to promising draft picks/players drafted and signed for future development

    Neutral:
Trent Fredric Trade. I’m going to remain neutral on that trade because not only was Fredric not put in a position of success since training camp, but he never got any chemistry with consistent linemates until the very end of the regular season. Knoblach proceeds to then NEVER play them. Whoever the coaching staff is next year, Fredric needs to be in that Bottom Sox role with Dach and Samanski or Dickinson. He was genuinely good in that line and hopefully, he can actually improve. This isn’t the same Fredric from when he was with Boston. I’m willing to give him grace here and see what happens with him next season.

Regarding the offer sheets to Broberg and Holloway, that is PRIMARILY on Jeff Jackson and Ken Holland. Bowman was put in that position that was setup for failure because of those two (mostly Jeff Jackson).

A lot of these issues stem from coaching (Knoblach and Mark Stuart) or previous years of poor asset management (Chiarelli, Holland, and Jackson). Adding into Darnell Nurse not being able to play defense let alone is clearly missing hockey IQ, it’s pretty clear what the issues are.

Fixes (ordered from most important to least important):

    Trade Jarry to Utah
    Trade Nurse (if able)
    Fire Jeff Jackson

Fire Mark Stuart or whoever is running the Penalty Kill

Fire Knoblach if he isn’t willing to run 4 lines and not overplay McDavid and Draisaitl

Don’t put McDavid on the penalty kill

Bring Isaac Howard and Quinn Hutson up to the NHL

Bring in Dennis Hildeby or Devon Levi

Trade for a Top 4 Leftshot Defenseman

Sign a penalty killing specialist like Teddy Blueger

Bring in a coach that is willing to run 4 lines, develop the younger players, and actually have the team play hockey.

I’m willing to give Bowman another season. Hopefully he can follow through.

  4. Take a step back. Are u telling me that Dickenson, Conner Murphy, Conner Ingram, Quinn Hudson, Samanski, Howard, are improvements in 1 years depth? Sure Freddy was s fail, Jarry sideways move. From Picks and Skinner.
    How is the sky falling?
Knoblach has no adjustments in playoffs sure. But Bowman has made us 1 yr better in one year. More next year. Look what he started with. Short sighted Trev

  5. I think if they get one more good defence men and a solid goaltender and put Jarry as the backup and hire Bruce Cassidy the oilers can be a dangerous team again as the 24-25 teams were…

Is this a hot take? 👀

  6. Keep Connor Brown? Too Expensive!
    Keep Corey Perry? Too Expensive!
    Keep Evander Kane? Too Expensive!

No, No! Let's Save that money for Trent Frederic, Tristan Jarry, & Andrew Mangiapane!!!

  7. I think we're still in the Denial stage of grief. It was now or never in 2024. Now? It's never.

  8. When you realize that McDavid is not a superstar player, then the offseason moves become less urgent. The star on this team is Draisaitl, and the build should be with him in mind. McDavid should actually be the player a trade for pieces needed is built around, since right now McDavid's worth is overvalued, and the Oilers should take advantage of that value before the rest of the league figures out he's not a player in the same category as Nathon MacKinnon, Sidney Crosby, or even Krill Kaprizov.

  9. Wow the 7 first round tank draft picks didn't work…..I predicted ducks in 5….looks like i was wrong…..The riches you idiots had,, have been squandered. Suck it Oiler fans. BTW i will never get more then 4 likes due to all of the homer Kool-Aid fans on your site…watch how a real team rebuilds here in Calgary.

  10. nobody is saying this but i highly doubt that any nhl locker room wants mcdavid or draisaitl to show up in there. their attitudes are horrible. both are great players but never get the job done and they make everything about themselves. in gold medal situations mcdavid cant win unless crosby is playing weve seen that. he was on the ice when usa beat them in the olypics. that whole game he was trying to be a hero selfishly. his wife is a nightmare. i have nothing good to say about him.

  11. Fire bowman, fire knobbers, get rid of nurse and jarry (probably 1/2 retained on each for 26-27) and then make a real plan. No more panic moves

  12. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are elite talents, but they are not complete players and they haven’t shown a real commitment to becoming that. Too much of their game is driven by stats and recognition, while the details that define winning hockey defense, consistency, and leadership aren’t there when it matters most. Connor McDavid, in particular, still plays a one-directional game at key moments instead of a true 200-foot style.

The leadership issue is hard to ignore. They dominate the power play, but that comes at the cost of developing others and building a true team identity. Real leaders elevate the entire group. That’s the standard set by players like Sidney Crosby a complete, accountable, team-first approach that translates into championships.

McDavid’s legacy is trending toward great individual stats and awards, but serious questions about being clutch. In the biggest moments, the production hasn’t been there—zero points in critical games like Game 6 and 7 in 2024, and again in Games 5 and 6 in 2025, along with no impact in a gold medal game. He performs when there’s less pressure down 0–3, Games 4 and 5, or in round-robin Olympic play but as the stakes rise, the impact drops off. That pattern raises real concerns. Where is the accountability for that?

And yet, no one in the media seems willing to ask the obvious question: what parts of your own game are you committed to improving? We hear about scoring goals or chasing milestones, but not about becoming complete 200-foot players or stronger leaders. Instead, it’s excuses and soft coverage.

The “best player in the world” label doesn’t hold up under that kind of scrutiny. Being the best isn’t just about highlights and numbers—it’s about delivering in the biggest moments and leading a team to wins when it counts.

As for Leon Draisaitl, he shares in this. The talent is undeniable, but until it translates into complete, accountable, team-driven success, it’s fair to question both the leadership and the results.

    Cue the fan boys

  13. Get fri cin new management I am sure my Grandkids can build a team around the 2 best players in the World and these so called hockey people have had 11 and 12 years to do it, management , scouting, everybody who don't put skates on should be fired. Let Connor and Leon run the team and you save a ton of money firing ALL management .

  14. Not to be that guy but the Flames are trending in a better direction than the Oilers and they might win the cup before them 🔥

  15. Jackson, Knoblauch and Bowman are out of touch…too many expensed meals. You can be the best on paper and still lose; so they are content with icing way less then that and want to waste prime years with a hope and a prayer?😂 it's ridiculous

  16. ALL they had to do was FILL IN THE BLANKS WITH DRAFT PICKS…….. BUT INSTEAD THEY LOST Broberg & Holloway & picked up reinhart avoiding Barzal & trading down to avoid Wallstad the goalie. I can Easily see Draisatl saying when Connor goes cheque please —– i do not want a part of Incompetent management/scouting staff. Gotta respect HONESTY from those 2 young men!!!

  17. The management and coaching staff need to stop pretending they have great defence and goaltending. they need a GM and a coaching change as much as they need upgrades in other areas

  18. McDavid, Draisaitl and the Oiler Media are living in the Sunken Cost Fallacy. The sunk cost fallacy is a cognitive bias where people continue an endeavor—like a project, relationship, or investment—solely because they have already invested resources (time, money, effort) into it, rather than evaluating its current and future benefits. It is the irrational drive to "not waste" past investments, even when stopping is more beneficial. The realization was that last summer it was obvious the Oiler roster was not good enough. Media kept the hope alive. The realization this summer is that due to current contracts and limited cap space the Oiler roster will not be good enough in 2026-27 to obtain the cup. According to Puckpedia the Oilers have 15 players on the roster and 16.4 M cap remaining. Not on the roster from last year is Dickinson, Roslovic, Henrique, Kapanen, Dach, Murphy, and Ingram. They have all contributed more than Frederic who is locked in for 7 more seasons at 3.8 M. McDavid signed for 2 more years due to loyalty to his teammates. The ultimate captain. I hope that at some point he sees there is no future here in Edmonton for the next two years to go for the cup and he either looks at 2028-29 Oilers with a new GM this year or asks for a trade this summer to a contender

Probably I am below average in hockey knowledge among fans but to me summer of 2025 the 2025-26 season was over and I know it is early but I feel exactly the same way about the upcoming season. Oilers cup window slammed shut when Holloway and Broberg left.
