Bruce Cassidy , coaching style not compatible with oiler roster ability style . will fall short in my prediction
Oilers need to implement a strategic stringent defenseman playbook system re taught to every Oiler defensemen :
– Shutdown rushes at blueline. Tactical pressure and forechecking presence implementation
– Defenseman stay defending their side of the net, NOT TOLERATING aimlessly WANDERING defenseman IN FRONT OF NET OR ABANDONING HIS SIDE completely TRAVELING TO OPPOSITE SIDE, leaving an entire defensive zone UNMANNED
– Defenseman must be taught they MUST Stay OUT OF GOALIES line of sight – Location positioning awareness skill building through season long continued practice in drills coaching/practicing time focus .
– Defenseman stop allowing opposing players behind them screening goalie with pressure or hitting them taking away their ability to take a unchallenged shot on net.
– no puck watching tolerated – passenger team players result in sloppy unnecessary goals against and games lost
– ALL MISTAKES AND HORRIBLE BAD HABITS be trained out of defenseman NOT to be ACCEPTED , instead be corrected.
– PK diamond and box shape positioning training to ensure stronger PK net front challenge reducing shot lanes from opposition rushes
– Defenseman facing their own net means that opposition team has taken over your defensive net zone, and defenseman isn't doing his job position allowing players to skate by defensive challenge and defensemen are watching the game not actively defending it . Must be corrected before it becomes a defense players default habit and a constant net front zone threat condition for netminder to have recover and react for unexpectedly and unnecessarily.
That is bare minimum Oilers HAVE TO TEACH * ALL CURRENT AND INCOMING newly acquired DEFENSEMEN * TO IMPLEMENT AND ENFORCE STRATEGIC DEFENSIVE STRUCTURE CORRECTION through COACHING, PRACTICES , SKILLS AND DRILLS CONTINUOUSLY For PRE SEASON , AND DURING REGULAR SEASON .
Horrible defensive errors and habits errode goaltenders ability , confidence and comfortable net minding .
Constantly being undermined by your own defensive lines allowing absolutely unchallengeable surprise shots on net destroys goalies frame of mind in being able to trust to rely on your teammates , especially if you just arrived or recently been traded to the team and now expected to hold the position in net with players you don't know , are not yet familiar with each defensemen's habits and mistakes you are now required to defend against .
This reflects how the new team thinks of your goaltending skill ability and comradery is negatively impacted resulting in team wanting you traded before you can even get comfortable and be the goalie they can be confident in relying on .
Any goalie but Jarry
Wallsled
Nurse – Contract unmovable – Can be re trained to get better and remove bad habits like must be done with Bouch as well.
Bowman – remains , On probationary status, dependant on roster repair and performance advancement
knobs – remains with additional coaching advisors and training assistance for skill building .
Jarry – Contract unmovable, was on waivers , no team took him. needs time to be comfortable and requires Defense to be retrained and fixed. Jarry could then stabilize
End horrific amounts of cap space contracts and flushed money on failed aquied fail to bring compatible trade in.
Campbell, lucic, Mangiapane, etc. Bouchard Nurse over value over paid , cap space draining decisions need to be reduced to balance for advancement of team not just advantage for a single asset
Cassidy isn't going to accomplish more than Knoblauch unless the Defence, Goaltending ,PK and bottom 6 are all improved! The guy that needs a good firing is Stan Bowman , not Knoblauch! Katz needs to be fair and smart! Jackson shouldn't be untouchable with his very stupid move/influence before Bowman. AKA trading a top 6 young player in Ryan McLeod for a minor leaguer at the time in Savoie !
We need a a top defender! The one that gets that attacker away the goal.. and protect the goallie.. I don't think fire Knoblauch will fix the problem.. and what about Filip Gustavsson (Minnesota) and Adin Hill (Vegas) as goallie or get Connor Ungar a little earlier then expected
Knob coasted on the roster talent. This team may have gone to the cup final twice with anyone behind the bench. What Knob does NOT do is hold players and other team members accountable. He's soft and brings no structure, and that's the weak point for this team.
They are still paying Campbell for heaven’s sake.
Stop teasing me.
There was Gibson, Vladar, Lyon just to name a few and stupid Bowman didn’t even try to do anything! Stupid management
Bob is going to cost to much
Gustavsson is the guy
Oilers need to hire Kevin Bieksa as coach. I know he's NOT a coach but I know he has it in him to lead a team.
The BEST single goaltending upgrade the Oilers could possibly make is to….FIRE STAN BOWMAN IMMEDIATELY!!!!
….before he makes any more ridiculous trades or makes any ridiculous contracts….
Please get anyone the current coach is terrible and the GM and the GM as well. If Cassidy is good then please have him the new Coach so Oilers can win cups. Been way too long. Please let’s the ball rolling get this Guy in.
Can the Oilers bring in someone like Gator to help both the PK and the D core to learn how to be tough to play against?
If management gets Bob (who’s going to be 38
Jarry trade has stunk since day 1
If they hadn't traded for him, nothing would have changed except the Oilers would have an extra 2nd round pick and $21M in cap space to go after a real goalie in the summer
You're getting Monty
Changing coaches every 2 years is rediculous. No stability in the organization.
You can bring in "New Systems – New Lines – New PP- New PK…..all of these things can change. The Coach can change, thats why Coaches move around"……
Slow down Dubby…just slow it down ok.
#1…. When you bring in a new Coach he MAY of he MAY NOT bring a NewAge Hockey System with him that will change everything about and around the Team….
#2 Knobber is the Oilers 11th Head Coach since Mac-Tavishes Big Run ….17 years and the team has blown through 11 Head Coaches some Legacy HOF level….thats about 1.54 years/per Head Coach — it takes on average 2 years for an NHL Team to install and implement a new System of play—- and unless you are a professional Tactical Systems Analyst you will not be able to discern which of these 11 head Coaches brought their own new System with them and which were told they had enough Runway to in a reasonable amount of time learn to manage the Home-Made one DEEPLY EMBEDDED in Edmonton already.
#3 One could make a roughshod Guess-timation that based on the optics of the evidence there just may be " a failure to communicate" somewhere…. because basic Math tells is that 1.54 is a lot less than the average 2 years it takes to install and run a new System for a Pro Hockey Team….. so its theorettically possible that NONE of these Coaches has EVER been given even an AVERAGE MONKEYS CHANCE of getting a proper System up and running in any kind of normal way… so there may have never been a reasonably chance of solving the Caramilk secret in Edmonton….right or wrong?
#4 When Devan Dubnyk was a professional NHL Goaltender were Systems as important as they are today? I DO NOT MEAN STATS based Analysts garbage which is always by proxy a false-positive driver of disconnects. I mean actual Systems as in Macro-Gameplans on how to Manage everything surrounding the Team on and off the ice.I mean Systems that demand a Player be in an exact space owning it at an exact time in an exact position ready to terminate an exact Playaction. because I have been a Fan for 50 years and know exactly what I am seeing now and to my fine-eye only the Soviets had what you could clearly see was a disciplined structured System of play that could be executed at the highest speeds …one Gretzky improved upon by adding on-ice Management that at the end of the Day was MORE STRICt than the Soviets because it was run from the Inside by the Core based on a Meritocracy run by Players who were 110% supported by the Management. Gretzky and Kurri and others who were battle Seasoned did not want to give Teammates any slack and if you could not receive Passes or Score to finish playactions they moved your ass right out the door. Everything that built the Dynasty team was centered around MERIT BASED OPPORTUNITY AND ACHIEVEMENTS.. Systems that win Championships are BASED ON A MERITOCRACY which is the only thing real Men real Soldiers are willing to risk themselves on…. honesty and trust and loyalty and Brotherhood….things that ONLY a MERIT BASED 100% fair process can build…this is where a Wolf-Pack mentality is bred…
Can the Oilers find a magical way to win a Stanley Cup in a 1-year window when they already proved they could not do it in a Decade LONG WINDOW?…. I say yes…and I just outlined the HOW part….the Oilers need a NewAge Hockey System and Operating Instructions that can give them the tools they need to manifest their own Destiny within a 1-Year Window of Operations . If there really is such a thing as a cutting edge Excaliber level NewAge Hockey System floating around in the NHL as many now realize the Oilers truly do need it right now…if they win 1 right now then they can win multiples because Connor and Leon will stay and reap the rewards of being late Bloomers…
PS…sorry Dubby but the Oilers can win the Cup with a League Average Goalie if they buy and install the NHS ….same at every other "position" only League Average toolkit is required.Superstars may apply but they can leave their Capes and Gloves and Boots at home… its never the Goalies if they are League Average…not if you are using a cutting edge current Era System.
How come nobody ever mentions the exchange rate and the lower cost of living as advantages for Canadian teams?
Fire Bowman and Jackson
