Thompson has to be sick or dying. He’s objectively awful for last 6 games – it’s mind blowing the pp keeps trying to force feed him. I think this is the end of the Sabres Cinderella run
Buffalo has Speed with no execution and Montreal is a fast team. The open ice is to Montreals first line advantage. Keep the game open buffalo. It’s the playoffs not the regular season. With all the Sabres size the only player winning puck battles is your smallest player. Montreal is just going to get tougher to play.
Tampa found a way to limit Montreal to 9 shots in their last game. Buffalo has the defense and size to be able to limit them in a similar fashion and keep that momentum away from them. But the forwards can not be giving the puck away. Play a sound defensive game and the goals for Buffalo will come. You do have to slow down the Canadiens in order to win.

Montreal played better in both games. I don't see Buffalo win in Montreal.
Krebs shouldn't be on the first line against a team like Montreal. You need finesse players. Norris would be a better fit. Krebs is 4th liner. Too bad Ostlund is injured.

I think many Buffalo fans and those covering them did not realize what it took the Canadiens to beat Tampa. Game 1 was a crash after that series and then Marty brought them back up…. the scary thing is Montreal has an even higher gear that this. Most of game 2 was Montreal treating Buffalo like Tampa and not giving them space. Benson will be a target physically (he is already showing it). Also Greenway trying to go after Habs top players will end with either Anderson or Xhekaj taking care of him.
Game 3 will be interesting.
Habs fan who is one of the known online hockey card box reviewers. I used to wait for The Flower to sign for me by the side door of the old Montreal Forum. It was such a pleasure to listen to you two, and get the Sabres take on the series. You sound a lot like our guys after Game 1. The fact is, the teams are still feeling each other out. And look how Game 1 went in the Colorado series. I expect both teams to tighten up moving forward. I think the Sabres are slightly deeper than the Habs, but the Habs have the edge in net. It should be a great series. And I loved that you compared Benson to Gally. Usually the comp is Marchand. Gally didn't start the Tampa series either, but when he was finally called upon after a loss, playing only 6mins, he scored on his very first shift, tipping the entire series. What Benson did last night was equally special. Dobson really should have chipped the puck out instead of blindly tossing it behind him. But that's the type of goal the Habs manufactured all down the stretch, going 17-5-3. Early days, but Benson has the vibe of someone who will hoist it or die trying. Hagel and Hyman are other comps I can think of.

It was a good run boys; very proud of this team and the sudden turnaround we made this year! But as good as we were against Boston, Mtl is another thing entirely. You can see they’ve learned from their series vs Washington last year (Mtl had the most hits in all the playoffs in first round). And they learned even more beating Tampa (they beat the shit out of Tampa in the tuffness and fighting department, and they somehow suddenly became defensive beasts).
Facing us in 2nd round, they now get to play 'our' style, except they’ve been playing this way longer than us, and their top talent beats ours. I wanted to think we had better depth, but in the two games theirs have outplayed ours so far. Mtl is smaller, but tougher, they are slightly faster (but close), they’re much more structured and tighter on defence, faaar better power play and they’re killing us at the faceoff dots, which is a big reason why they have possession so much more than our boys.
Their goalie looks bigger and more of a battler, and as much as I love Lindy, how can you not run thru a wall for St Louis as their coach.
I don’t want to face them next year when they get even better with their cap space and incoming players from their top 3 talent pipeline. That team is a masterclass on how you do a rebuild!

LOL ! Ask Tampa's podcast ( locked on ) how they thought the series would end in 5 or 6 ! Btw Tampa is a better team than buffalo by far ! So enjoy loosing home ice advantage and enjoy the Montreal crowd compared to buffalo lol
