Last Year I was Pissed that the Sharks got the second overall pick, this year I’m ecstatic the Sharks got the second overall pick!
Been sub’d since the EK65 trade episode. What a time to be a fan 🦈🦈🦈 Keep up the great work guys
Wouldn’t mind the idea of trading down. Don’t know how plausible it is, but if Vancouver really wants Stenberg, what about moving pick #2 to the Canucks for #3 plus Buium? SJ could even sweeten it a bit with the Edmonton 1st or another prospect if needed. Then you still draft Reid and suddenly the future D corps looks pretty loaded.
Obviously this would all depend on who Toronto takes at #1, but it’s an interesting thought.
No, you have a chance to take Stenberg/McKenna, you take them.
Package a couple of prospects with pick 19/20 and move up to grab a RD.
And throw the bank at Raddysh!
FCK Stenburg .. Sharks need to draft Chase Reid … is a must
We need ivar stenberg. We can trade assets for an established defenseman, we can develop D internally, we can’t pass up on an elite player.
The swede line, Stenberg – Wennberg – Eklund 👍
Pick Stenberg, screw defense, we’ll win every game 9-7
There's been talk about Stenberg over McKenna all year since McKenna struggled in NCAA but now that Toronto has the pick it's nearly a guarantee they'll take the Canadian when the talent level is this close.
Everyone says Ferraro is gone but also say that he's good for the team, free agency is weak, they can't get 3-4 guys that are better than Ferraro this year, they have cap space even after Mack gets paid, etc. Easy answer, pay Ferraro. Keep his trade options open if you want to move on in 2-3 years.
Trade Ferraro and Ekland and a pic next year for Adam fox and use our pic for stenburg
Houston Texas and newly minted member! Woot, woot! lol!
Ok for my next novel, muahhhh!
What a night! Excellent episode by everyone as always with lots of great commentary, suggestions, thoughts, and discussions. I watched most of it but needed to get some sleep for work.
Here are some of my thoughts:
GMMG has stated repeatedly he is taking the BPA with this pick with two caveats:
1) If the talent level between one prospect and another is negligible he may have a couple prospects he may choose from (which means needs may play a big part in his decision) but if not it is BPA regardless of prospect position.
2) As always GMMG is willing to take all calls but he did state that the cost to get the pick raised exponentially with it now being second overall.
My read is that a team must blow his socks off for him to move it but as always, if it benefits the Sharks more with what is received in the trade for this state of the rebuild than just taking the pick he will make the move, if not he keeps it.
Final thinking for me is he will not move the pick for two reasons:
1) No team will offer enough for GMMG to justify moving it.
2) It has been 27 years since a second round pick was moved as they are EXTREMELY valuable.
1. Draft Stenberg or McKenna
2. and try to package the other 1st with Bystedt/Haltunen/Eklund for a Fox/Werenski/Nemec type D
PS: I don´t seem to be able to catch you guys live, but as always, awesome work!
You could go either way, but my preference is going Stenberg, not only you optimize even more your long term top 6. You deny the posibility of a Pacific Division Rival and Conference Rival to not get him. Still, Shark have great ammo for trading for Top4 Dmen with the 20th pick, Strong prospect like Musty, Bystedt, Proven NHLs like Eklund.
Verhoeff skating is bad, he’s at best a slow D at worst he’s going to be burned often by forwards. Reid is fast and a very good Skater
Chase reid or stenberg .!
Anyone using the "but we need defense" as justification to take a D-man at 2 or move down slightly for a D man, don't understand the skill gap between Mckenna/Stenberg and everyone else.
What do you guys think of bystedt? Is musty ahead of him? What about trading him? Don’t hear many people talking about him and he was a high 1st
If McKenna is available you take him. He’s too good to pass on. Defense can be the focus of the 2nd first round pick and FA or trades.
Thanks for the content but sheesh you guys are noobs
Let's see. Doesn't know how to pronounce Stenberg's name nor that the Malhotras are related. I'm supposed to take this seriously.
At pick 2, you take BPA— Stenberg, come on down! ❤
You take Stenberg and don't look back!
So if we get Stenberg will Warso over manage him like he did Misa Dickinson and Muk?
Second best prospect pool??? We have thes best by a mile 😂 unserious this podcast😊
Anyone that's high on Musty: trading for then extending Sherwood shows you exactly what the Sharks think of Musty.
There is no scenario where it makes sense to use the 2nd overall pick to draft a D man. If Grier wants that so bad (which he doesn't) he would want to trade picks with Vancouver for some incentive. That D man is still there at number 3.
At 2, if you’re not drafting Stenberg (or McKenna), and don’t trade the pick, it’s a lost opportunity. The opportunity lost to take BPA, OR, to garner value out of the draft pick. In a draft THIS heavy in Defenseman, where no one defenseman is set apart the way McKenna and Stenberg are, taking a D at 2 is wasting pick value. By all means, if you want a D, trading back and adding assets is entirely available. But wisdom would suggest taking BPA is the way to go.
It seems the Sharks window to compete is opened much sooner than expected because of the elite level Celebrini is already entered. Thus, a teenage D would not likely help you in the time frame you need. Even if you think D is the greatest organizational need (it is), the timeline has shifted—you need an established D man, well out of his ELC territory. To acquire, you’ll need to trade from your stockpile of existing assets—which is young forward talent. Drafting Stenberg offsets whatever assets you will be sending out from the NHL club (it’s almost certainly Eklund), and since Stenberg is presumably NHL ready, it renders your 2026 draft pick and subsequent trade for a D all immediately impacting the NHL product.
Sure you can play around with drafting a falling D at 19/20, or trade up a few spots to grab one of them, or trade out for futures. But with drafting Stenberg (so long as trading for a D is your contingent), your offseason was all aimed at impacting the NHL squad for next season. Drafting a D at 2 overall misses that opportunity and leaves value on the table
Take Stenberg. The last time I checked the team with the most goals win. Pholcamp and Cagnui should help. Anything is an improvement over Leddy and Klinberg.
I understand that defense is important. Look at how strong the offense can be with Stenberg. Two lines of under 23 year olds with a ton of upside.
They have options to acquire defense without using the 2nd pick . The rebuild is phase 2. They have a young offense and goal tending. Fix the defense and off they go. I just don’t see how they can pass on Stenberg.
A long winded rant by a fan who understands that Grier knows a lot more about hockey than I do.
The Future is bright !!!!
