I’m excited he’s back. But 6 years is insane

  2. SloaneKettering1

Oof that’s way too much term. Gotta get used to the sticker shock in this booming cap era.

    Glad he’s back though

  3. austinD93

Perplexed by 6 years… I feel he’ll be coaching for us by the end of that

  4. res7rain

6 years for someone who is 34? 3 steps forward 15 back sometimes with this team…..

  5. GhostFaceRiddler

Seems like all teams are just banking on the cap continuing to go up and these contracts not hindering the team. He will be 40 when this contract expires.

  6. iamelloyello

I love Coyle, but he will be in a retirement home by the time his contract is up.

  7. Yay he’s back but the fuck you mean SIX YEARS. He’s gonna be 40 when it’s over.

  8. SportsNMeds

…6 years??? I love Coyle, but yeesh. That’s gonna age poorly in a few years.

  9. Outside-Pie-7262

Oh my fucking god he’s going to be 40 years old at the end of this.

We’re really going to be stuck in that mushy middle until we’re forced to rebuild again

  10. Cautious-Bet-9440

Anyone know the cap hit? Can’t imagine it being cheap.

  11. lnvalidSportsOpinion

Please dont be the Dubinsky 2.0 contract…

  12. KalmKali

SIX YEARS!?!? Holy hell!!! LGJ!! ❤️🤍💙

  13. DontPokeTheCrab

I’m guessing this was the only way they could get him to stay…longer contract vs a shorter one with a contender.

    Love me some Coyle tho!

  14. Another_Guy_In_Ohio

I am not at all surprised by the 6m AAV… but I thought 4 years would be a questionable term. 6 is insane

  15. RustyCrusty73

Isn’t this guy 34 years old?

    This length makes zero sense.

I hope it’s not a fully guaranteed deal.

I like Coyle, and we need the veteran leadership, but this is a DW head scratcher.

  16. SignificantAd2542

His kid may be playing with him by the time this contract is done

  17. Might be a hot take. But I think by the time this contract is off the books, our window will be closed anyways.

  18. DIYCenturyGoaler

I don’t get why everyone is dragging the term. He’s played EVERY game for the last 5 seasons and just had a career year. He’s durable and is still producing. Yes he will regress…eventually but it’s insane how everyone freaks out. The term lowered the AAV. $6m is a bargain.

  19. MrBJacket13

Jesus fuck this made my day. Huge news. Now Mush please

  20. CoachBergie

Great deal. Extend the term to get the AAV down to a very reasonable number. Especially as the cap is going to $104M this year and presumably up from there. By the time that coyle is old and useless we can buy him out for a minimal penalty vs the cap.

  21. tehslupe

The real win is that this severely diminishes the probability CBJ keep Boone around.

  22. bucknut63

    The Marchand retirement contract. Interesting.

  23. GoldEyes86

My kid will be a Senior in High School when this contract is up and you know what. Who cares. I fucking love Charlie!!!! Put the C on him!

  24. 6x$6M. Glad to have him back, but that’s a lot of term. Even 5 years seemed like a stretch.

Good for him and his family. Hopefully he’ll prove me wrong and keep up his play for the duration of the contract.

  25. joellecarnes

i choose to have faith that this will be an amazing re-signing

  26. rubbery_magician

I don’t hate it. I wonder how much is in signing bonus vs salary. That’s huge given he’s not yet 35.

  27. 71Duster360

Highly suspect contract restructuring down the line.  Anyone familiar with NFL contracts should know the drill

  28. A lot of you people are are never truly happy, you complain that no FA ever signs here, then when a proven talent that just had the best year of his career chooses to stay, all we do is bitch about term. No one has any idea what 6 years from now looks like for Coyle, I’m gonna be happy that the CBJ didn’t let a guy who would have been sought after by half the league make it to FA. Coyle chose Columbus which only furthers the reputation the city has.

  29. redditistreason

With deals like that, you would think we were anywhere close to contending.

  30. Minute-Of-Angle

    Yesssssssssssssss

I don’t know about the economics of the deal, but I am excited to see Coyle remain on the team.

  31. pro-laps

glad to have him back but what is our deal with these long contracts for guys who are on the backside of their primes?

  32. adam3vergreen

    Signing a 34-year old… for 6 years… that’s wild

  33. agoodfella73

This is both exciting and a little concerning. Hopefully he stays healthy and somewhat productive towards the end of term. I feel like this contract may have more to do with his leadership, experience, and overall good attitude than his overall production.

  34. ExplanationNaive

    He’s a dog but 6 years a little rough…

  35. Hazy_eyePA

I don’t give a fuck. He would’ve gotten the bag from someone else. Maybe he retires in 4 years and we eat the difference, I don’t care. This team is better with Coyle on it.

  36. ohio_hockey_dad

Love this signing – he was getting 6 years from someone, might as well be a team that desperately needs a center. I think we can let all the other UFA’s walk, with the exception of Boone if Boone is willing to do a really team friendly deal.
