  1. What we know for sure is whoever Leafs pick first, they are promised a ruined career. Just look at how well Mitch is doing now that he's left Toronto.

  2. The longer Chayka is quiet…. You have 2 possible scenario reasons ……
A: Quiet until after Chayka meets 34 = Assessment of Jim Hiller (Leafs Assistant Coach 2017-20, Kings Head Coach 21-26)..
    or
B: Quiet until Marlies done Calder Cup Playoffs = John Gruden is promoted.

  3. Anyone else can’t stand the Montreal Canadiens? As a leaf fan, I just can’t cheer for them. I know they will win a cup in the next 5 years probably though.

  4. McKenna is the most elite offensive talent since McDavid, and no, this is not hyperbole. It is what the analytics and stats show. In NCAA, contrary to “narratives” he dominated including at 5 on 5. He put up more expected assists than Celebrini and Fantilli combined—these were insane figures. More expected points as well, of course. So yes, he is way better offensively than “Stenberg” who played with far superior linemates. At times, McKenna was playing with defensive bottom six players (team injuries) during his “slow start” and his main “center” was a winger. I have yet to see a single commentator acknowledged that he played with inferior linemates than Stenberg and he put up 2x expected assists. Meaning: all situations equal, he basically puts up twice as many assists as Stenberg this season. I have watched a lot of tape on him but the stats are absolutely nuts. He broke Celebrini’s U18 record a draft year younger. Outscoring older players in best on best tournaments was normal for him (look up how often this happens). In WHL, he outscored McDavid/Bedard by over 0.5 PTS/G. My take is this is the most elite offensive talent of the past 10 drafts and a future Art Ross hoarder.

Now he has some areas of concern to his game. But I have to criticize this podcast for the get rid of Matthews narratives. Because do you know any elite goal scoring centers out there who could play with a generational assist setup machine? Matthews is the perfect center for this player.

Also: take note of how far MTL (and Marner) got this year in the playoffs. Don’t tell me they had a better roster than Toronto the past 8 years. The playoffs is a two team competition. You need to have the better team to advance. Getting rid of Matthews wasn’t the solution. Getting better management in place that actually wins trades and develops players properly was the answer.

Here’s another small tidbit I will drop. McKenna is elite at carrying the puck in and generating scoring chances. He almost never dumps the puck. Berube would have been the worst possible coach for this player. I expect Toronto to go for a coach who will exploit the roster they actually have including McKenna. Not picking him first would be insane and a disaster. Fortunately, Chayka is a stats man. The scouts are not paying attention enough to his analytics and stats.

  5. David Carl is not coming to Toronto no matter how much money they gave him

He has a good thing going in Denver

    He gets paid well

    He is staying there

All the prospects for coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs thus far are not suitable in any way shape or form

The only one suitable in my opinion

    Haley Wickenheiser

    She has intensive hockey knowledge
She gets along good with Pellegrino
    She is a doctor
She is highly intelligent and focussed and capable
She has won five Gold medals in the Olympic gold medals as captain of the Canada ladies team

There is no one more suitable than Haley Wickenheiser

    Is she interested

She's already in the MLSE organization

    Is she interested

The lady that coached the Seattle Kraken is available

Her contract is up as of now

    Does she wants a job
    Is she interested

    Give the ladies a chance

    There is no choice

The men have screwed it up time and time again getting worse

  6. it wasnt even underlying numbers though… you could watch them and see how shit they looked in season 1. They spent all year in their own end and were outshot 85% of the season.

  7. Drafting McKenna is a no brainer. That's the easiest decision Chayka will make this off-season. His hiring of the coach, free agent signings and trades will show how great of a manager he's been sold to be.
