One thing analytical minded fans (like myself) fail to take into account at times when either really liking/being skeptical of certain guy's game is the human element. The factor I hadn't considered much as I evaluated QB prospects over the past few years is how QB is the one position in the NFL where the right personality type, a maniacal work ethic, & NFL minimum physical traits can lead to certain guys greatly exceeding expectations of their draft position/scouting reports (& vice versa for some highly drafted, uber-talented guys who fall short of expectations).
From all the reporting I trust the most, Will Howard might have that type of intangible. I'm rooting for him & all of the QBs to show well, & I'm rooting for the hope their successes would bring this beleaguered fanbase!

The 3 QBs on the roster not named Rodgers all have the tools to win at the NFL level. The 3 QBs on the roster not named Rodgers will all improve with more practice reps, etc. Two of the QBs on the roster have never broken the huddle, detected a blitz before the snap and changed the play to make a first down. But the BEST thing for this team is to bring back a fading QB that is going to turn 43-years-old. Okay, sure. They need to carry 4 QBs this year.

I don't think it's a huge gamble or commitment to make one of your drafted QB's your backup and move on from Mason. There is no future with Mason. It's an obvious move. You try to win this year with Rodgers, and if he goes down, you gain something valuable there too; knowledge if the young guys can play or not. I would trade the chance of an extra win or 2 with Mason for the knowledge of whether or not Will or Drew can play in this league. That's the tradeoff I'm willing to make, and I think the franchise needs to be as well.
I'm so happy to see Pittsburgh finally get the team for which they've been pining for so long. I wish you guys all the best. Personally I think this is all a huge decades long mistake but it's what you guys have been wanting for quite some time. I mean as someone mentioned a "beleaguered fan base" should get the team they've been wanting at some point. I'm looking forward to seeing you get every bit of it. Good luck
Mason is not getting traded until the end of the preseason. If it all. Not gonna go into the season with two rookies. Yes o know about Howard. But it's two rookies backing up a 42 year old. Not happening

I fully expect Will to take Masons job it would be concerning if he didnt if they think he could be the heir to Rodgers. Hes very smart and mature for his age but i think backup is his ceiling imo.
why do people still think that we’re gonna be drafting a quarterback in 2027 when we have a room with two young ones and a vet? That’s super unrealistic unless you think that we’re gonna be trading away either Will or Drew
It says something about the Steelers slipshod approach to the QB position that we are commending them for giving one of the young guys a shot at…QB2.
Franchise quarterbacks are not drafted and anointed. Franchise QBs are made in late January games.
We need a starting QB.
This logic would make sense if Howard actually had any actual playing experience at the pro level.

This is what I expected. I don’t get the mindset that we must have a veteran backup. Rudolph was a rookie as QB2.
It also is no mystery which quarterback is out. The team leaked that Rudolph is available for trade right after the Allar pick.
I've been preaching this from the mountaintop that Will Howard is the real deal. The truth is that he was grossly under drafted. He only didn't get a shot to compete for #2 last season because of the broken wrist. Let's review: Howard played in a pro system in college. He achieved the highest on-field accomplishment he could have (while outplaying Drew Allar head to head). He is a Pennsylvania native with a big time chip on his shoulder after being passed over by James Franklin (not known for QB development). Mike McCarthy barely knew him before he declared that Howard "will start in this league." Believe him!

Every young QB at some point starts their first game. For those who say you can’t just throw a guy out there they should sit and learn. Ok he did that last year under a HOF QB so…..is he ready ? Maybe
DON’T GET TOO EXCITED GUYS. Howard was announced QB1 BEFORE the draft, and BEFORE Rodgers returned. Obviously instead of reordering the depth chart they just put Rodgers in at QB1 and slid everyone else down a spot for now. Between now and the final cuts for the 53 man roster, the depth chart is going to change for experimental reasons and preseason games. Let’s see how this all plays out.

Howard had on white shoes yesterday; the three other QBs had on black shoes. Does he think he is some type of Joe Namath? LOL. He needs to get a Roethlisburger and an IC Light at Primanti's to help focus.

Definitely doesn't hurt that Rodgers likes Howard and has already worked with him for a year. I'm sure Coach McCarthy takes what Rodgers thinks into account and rightfully so
I’m looking for this team to be top ten on defense and offense cause how this coaching staff is being hyped up from Mike McCarthy being a QB guru and now Graham is is making it all simple there be no reason this team doesn’t only win the AFC North but be fighting for the number one seed at the end of the year!!!

Will these kind of makes sense. People always say his high ceiling is a back up so why not make him back up right away if he can do it..even in preparation for next year. And if earns the starting spot next year great! This makes total sense. And Mason is still valuable as a trade option

Im just so tired of hearing how far behind the team has been for the last decade or more under the last regime. I want to see this team take a huge push forward and get out of three decades ago. We deserve better as fans. Hopefully all the fans can put up with a bit of down time before we rise from the ashes of mediocrity.

With Rogers now stating this is his last year, do you think the Steelers find a way to Keep Mason although its not written in stone he gone, I thought they would want to find a way to keep a proven backup exspecially for next year
