I don’t get the Nemec hype. He’s long on projection but short on actual performance. He is also terrible defensively. The Sharks are already bad at preventing goals, they don’t need another player making it worse. I wouldn’t give up Eklund or Musty for him. Jersey would have to sweeten the deal to get either of those players.

  2. Is Nemec really an upgrade over Ferraro?

Edit: that's really what you are looking for not a sideways or downgrade. It has to be an upgrade or you are just spinning your wheels.

  3. I still can't shake the feeling they are targeting Carels for some reason. Same team as Ravensbergen, so lots of eyes on him. Very nasty, with a little bit of offensive upside.

  4. Would Gaudette be in play here? He's cheap at 2m, and he can definitely score. He had 17 goals this season and 19 last season on different teams only averaging like 12 minutes a game. Plus no NMC. Package him with Musty and maybe a later pick if you needed to?

  5. David Jiricek getting traded twice has definitely hurt the trade value on Nemec. They were only drafted 4 picks apart.

I’d only trade down from the #2 pick with the Rangers and only for Adam Fox. Happy to add as well. Otherwise make the pick at #2 and watch the jealous faces.

I also suspect that someone the Sharks like is going to be available at #20 but the trading down math is a useful exercise.

  6. Unless they can get him straight up for the 20th pick, I don't think the Sharks should have much interest in Nemec since he really hasn't shown much at the NHL level yet and is going to cost a lot of money soon. Honestly, I'd rather take a shot at Hamilton since he probably won't be too expensive to acquire in a trade and is only signed for two more years. As for trading back from #2, I hope they don't do it unless they get blown away by a deal because they hopefully won't be picking this high again for a long time.

Honestly the only way I think the Sharks should trade the #2 pick is if the Canucks are willing to give up Hronek. Something like #2 and #20 (and probably a prospect) for #3 and Hronek…..which might make sense for the Canucks if they're serious about a full rebuild. Having 3 1st round picks would help get a rebuild started, and there's no point having (and paying) a #1 Dman who's going to damn near 35 years old before you are a legit playoff contender again.
