This was a needed loss that brings the canes back to earth…glad it happened. Give the Habs credit. Canes will learn from it…move on or move over.
The core group this team has been built around since 2018 are an absolute joke. Spineless losers who roll over and die the second they play a team that can offer even the slightest amount of pushback. The moment everything isnt going their way they roll over and die. And no. Dont do that stupid "Its only one game" stupidity. You people have been saying its only one game after every single ECF loss. You are wrong. every single time. Its a statistical wonder that you can be that level of wrong. This team will never accomplish anything. They will amount to nothing. Management needs to sit down and look at who has played in all 18 of those ECF games. Get rid of them. Every single one of them. I dont care about the regular season numbers or their skill set. They're losers. You keep putting your faith in proven losers and you look like a jackass at the end of every season.
The are 1 and 17. 18 games. Would you like to know the chances of flipping a coin 18 times and only getting it to land on heads once? 0.00287%. That is a numerical value you can assign to this core group. They should have at least accidentally won more then once. Ever since playing florida in the 3rd round before the puck even hits the ice for game one of the ECF I'm already saying better luck next year carolina. Maybe youll get at least a win next time.
Pathetic team.
I had a feeling this was going to happen after everyone screaming cane's going to sweep them smh
I have never been as nervous for a game as I was last night. I had no idea what to expect. Told me wife that we could lose 7-1 and it wouldn’t surprise me. But winning 5-1 wouldn’t either. I am not posting any judgement until after game 2. I truly feel we will see a different team.
Put respect on MTL yall think too much Cane are invincible but forget that’s Habs are a strong team
Im trying not to be a pessimist and tell myself they had too much time off, they have been reading their own press clippings, but its hard not to think here we go again its the ECF and we are gonna get our asses kicked by a hockey team that just has our number. I was really pulling for Buffalo because Montreal is 3-0 against us, they just have our number. But I'm trying not to overreact to game 1 but Im a scarred Canes fan.
I think the rust argument is appropo. In any activity, especially high performance based, where time goes by, things drift. You think you have it…but you don’t. It goes undetected. I’ll use a golf metaphor: you make a par or birdie on the first hole and you think “Hey, I’m hitting the ball well today and I haven’t even played in a while”, great! And then you double bogey the next hole and it spirals downwardly thereafter. It’s human nature. They thought they were ready but they weren’t. It happens. Will be sharper next game.
I’m not diminishing how well Montreal played or how poorly the Canes played when I say this. Something I’ve noticed these playoffs is the way reffing influences the game. It’s not obvious, it’s not handing Montreal twice as power plays as us because that’s not what happened. In the Buf/Mont game 7 the refs swallowed their whistles for an entire period and overtime. In the last two Canes series and now this game the refs affect the rhythm and momentum of the canes by handing out matching minor penalties or constant power plays for either side.
If 20% of our roster was focused on the ECF instead of up all night feeding newborns…..
They called aho for a rough because they couldn’t get away with calling it interference
The canes are the most overrated team in the league
Even the Carolina Hurricanes will inevitably have a crappy, throw-away game, especially in the postseason aka playoffs against the non-shit teams. After all, they're only human. Furthermore, they had to wait nearly 2 weeks for Montreal to finish off Buffalo. Waiting for ~10 days will result in drift. Also, they were probably dying of boredom after the first week scratching their asses like it was a full-time job. Therefore, forget about game 1, and don't forget about games 2, 3, 4, and 5. And go kick some Montreal ass.
Honestly, I don't know why I'm encouraging you guys given that I'm not a Carolina fan. But that's okay — I believe in you, and you need to believe in you as well. Praise the Lord.
Canes will make it a series but I’m worried the Habs just have too much high end talent to beat them in a 7 game series. I hope I’m wrong but I’m super worried. They seem to be able to score on most if not all of their grade A chances and the Canes miss 9 out of 10 of them.
Go Habs Go!
FYI, this was the Canes 4th straight loss to the Canadiens.
2nd line -3
They should have been prepared with the fact Stanks line would be suffocated.
Hey look on the bright side. At least you’ve got an actual opponent this round! Go Habs Go!
If the Canes lose this series I seriously think it's time to go another way because the way they are playing just isn't working in the later rounds of the playoffs. Every time they get to the ECF the same thing happens, it's like beating a dead horse or running into a brick wall over and over again thinking this time I will make it through even though I have done nothing different.
Experts think carolina is unstoppable because they beat w teams that barely made it into the playoffs. Use your head. Montreal had no problem sweeping them in the regular season and just beat 2 teams that are as good as Carolina. This will be decided by goaltending and skill. Montreal wins.
The entire team looked like they were still on vacation! Freddy looked VERY slow and out of it but in all defense to him the entire team let him down! If they lose game 2 and Freddy has another sub par performance then Bussi will nee to be inserted to try and turn the tide.
Canes drank their own kool-aid and took a nap. They'll snap out of it for next game. Habs need to stay hungry, they get sloppy after a good meal.
How many breakaways did Montreal have last night too many that's why they couldn't beat Florida that dump the puck creates that
Dude with the glasses bables a lot for nothing…
Stay home, do the dishes and let your wife do the talking! Lol🥴
I’ve seen this f’ing movie too many times. A loss like this usually throws the Canes into a significant losing streak. So tired of being a fan of regular season merchants that shrink into their pathetic mindset of beta when they get challenged.
Nine straight ECF defeats. The mental stress for Carolina in game two could be crushing. If they win it could completely lift that pressure. Can’t wait for game two. Canes should win but I’ll be rooting for the Habs. And I don’t like the Habs. Lol.
put Bussi in net and the Canes will win it easely!!! Frederik Andersen never loved him even if he got 2 SO in the first 2 series .
Give the Habs credit they are a excellent team
Ottawa? Philadelphia? Nah, THIS IS SPARTA!!!
FYI: The Hurricanes have now lost 6 of the last 7 games to Montréal.
Evans never turned away. A-hoe hit him straight up in the face
Montreal is a better team that’s it they have proved it this year against Carolina.
Yes Habs are very good
But you don’t throw them hanging curve balls
They will knock it out of the park
Game two will be tighter
Skill vs system
Going to be fun
Yea a 51 goal scorer yea got an iffy goal went off Anderson touched the defender. Yea there was a chance on that goal from Caufield with time and space. Carolina is a perfect team for Montreals game first time Montreal is the bigger team.
She and Svech not scoring is really an issue. Jarviß. has been fine. Give Nikki moré ice time. Tell Nikki to hit people.
Aho you need to lead by being the star.
That goal 33 seconds in was a lucky skate pass that wasn't intended for the scorer but credit for sure to the shooter for getting off the quick and accurate shot that didn't give Dobes much time to react to. I expect to see more of how this game went moving forward unless Andersen can step it up and make important saves. This high octane transition game will provide many odd man rushes.
Compared to the teams Montreal played in these playoffs, the Canes played two girl high school hockey teams.
Marty St. Louis has coached his team to play predatory hockey, waiting for the prey to walk into the traps his team sets….forcing aggressive plays by the Canes….and using their speed to break out and have plenty of 2 or 3 on 1's or break-aways….and boom…boom….boom….boom, it's 4-1 and good luck beating Dobes.
These are not just the Montreal Canadiens, they are a hybrid of Alien/Predator rolled into one waiting for the prey to walk unassuming into the juicy traps they set.
It's in Montreal's DNA to have a coach to turn the routine hockey tactics on it's head.
Ask Bobby Orr or Phil Esposito of the Bruin super teams of the 60's and 70's who lost to Montreal every time.
Habs fan here… I remember 2006 when the Habs were beating silly Irbe and thought the series would be over in no time; until that rookie Ward came in to take over the net to lead the team to the cup (congrats by the way). All that just to say there's a lot of game left to play🙂
Habs are clearly the better team having won all 4 games now against Carolina…I'm a Canes fan but I"m realistic….Habs 4 games to 1
Montreal is in Carolina’s head…won every meeting this season. Both teams have skilled players…but the Habs played better as a team. Lighting up Freddie Anderson early and often, sealed the deal. Fast, young, hungry team with an exceptional coach….not a surprising result, imo.
Canes got the exact start they wanted but I think they were a bit surprised Montreal didn't get shocked or tiptoe after giving up a goal on the very first shot, and when the Habs took one back right away it was instead the Canes that got nervous energy the first period.
The Canes can't expect the Habs to feel any kind of nervous going down after the last 2 series of crazy hockey they have played. They need to play a full 60 minutes expecting a team that won't quit against them because that's what the Habs are.
Buffalo made the big mistake in going all in to create offence. Montreal picked them off when they over committed. To beat Montreal, you must be patient and win the neutral zone. Defenders have to play D and not go looking for glory. Canadien counter attacks are too fast and skilled to have forwards covering for their D on even number attacks. One forechecker, 3rd man always high and jam the neutral zone. If the strategy employed continues, get the clubs regripped for a long season on the links,
I'm a Habs fan so I'm happy. But I believe what went wrong with the Canes was a lost of last second instinct. They hadn't played together in almost 2 weeks and simple practice doesn't compensate. So, tomorrow should be a very exciting game.
Heaven forbid Walker fall down after getting Horse-collared. That embellishment was ridiculous
Carolina need KKK Kotkaniemi :—)
BTW, is Brandon Bussi a reliable goaltender if Anderson doesn't perform?
As a decent hockey player my observation is that the Carolina forwards need to be taken to the woodshed. They were lazy and incompetent in their back checking. You can’t ‘catch up’ to a faster team when the ‘their’ forwards are in motion. Too many two on ones, almost breakaways, breakaways. Shouldn’t allow more than 2 or 3 of these in total in a game. Carolina defensemen had zero help.
Habs fan here. I have nothing to say I just want y'all to know we're taking over
Canes did not play against a playoff team in the first two rounds… Habs have been able to win in multiple ways. The Canes adjust and the Habs will still take care of them.
